Default Rockets Draft

does anyone know anything about the rockets draft? i think it's on june 5th, but that's about it. i don't even know where they select although i can probably guess it's mid-late 20's....

what kind of player would you go after? a back up center? a decent backup 2 or 3 man behind battier and mcgrady? trade mcgrady, head, scola or landry and the rockets pick for the #1 pick and kurt heinrich? #2 pick? i'm not proposing just throwing the general question out....

ok so i am...hahaha...i WOULD see if the bulls are interested in dealing ben gordon and/or kurt heinrich for mcgrady and combo. i doubt the pick could be involved, but i'd be willing to include scola or landry for a shot at beasley or even rose. if nothing can be resolved i think i'm going to look at a backup 2 or 3 to bolster the bench. head is so inconsistent shooting and has terrible handles, steve francis is done, who else even plays there for us? novak shoots the lights out but i guess is weak on defense (though i never saw him getting burned repeatedly) mike harris is a great energy man, though brings little else.

another big to spell yao would be great, and i certainly won't complain or be surprised with it, but i think with our coach and current makeup...they are looking for speedy guys. love yao, but as soon as he steps off the floor i would love to see a running, gunning bench. i think a team that comes with a great half-court game (with yao/mcgrady) and hits its bench flying (brooks, draft pick 2 or 3, landry, scola, harris so on) would be awfully tough to adjust to mid-game. only top notch defenses would be able to contain such a wide barrage of attack, and who knows how that defense would respond on their offensive side?

plus, having another capable scorer off the bench only cements guys like hayes, harris, woods, mutombo (the defense) in the team which i think is great. i'm alright with the balance of O and D in the lineup as long as there IS balance.

Tonight.

I like Chalmers and Hickson if the Rockets stay at 25 provided someone like CDR isn't there. Courtney Lee also sounds like a good pick, but I haven't seen him.

http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rock...276233-34.html

draft results for anyone who cares.

Quote:
Donte Greene (6-11, 226, Syracuse)

“At the wing spot we need size, athleticism and shooting,” says Morey. “He has all those things. He’s got a good chance to really contribute over time. I do think he’ll potentially have a tough time getting on the floor early with the veteran group we have, but he’s at a spot where if he works and commits himself on both ends of the floor, he’s got a real chance to be a pretty special player.”
traded from memphis (and their 2009 2nd round) to houston for darrell arthur. backs up battier and possibly mcgrady with good size. i think he instantly takes head's minutes if he can dribble or pass.

Quote:
Joey Dorsey (6-7, 265, Memphis)

Says Morey: “He’s, in our opinion, the best defensive big in the country. He anchored the best defense in the country in Memphis, and he was the player on that team who made the largest impact; through steals, through shot blocking, through his ability to guard nearly every position on the floor with his speed and athleticism.

“He’s someone who can make an impact right away. He’s ready to play right now. He can run the floor. He can anchor a transition line-up. We feel like he’s a top-five rebounder in the country on both ends. So he’s creating extra possessions on the offensive end, and he’s getting steals.

“He is 6’ 7’’ but he’s long. He makes up for any sort of size limitation with his wide body, and athleticism and speed.”
traded from portland (darrell arthur too) for nicolas batum (the rockets original 25th pick). plays with a mean-streak supposedly. that's good though, cuz now punk-asses takin' shots at our boy yao are gonna get something back. instantly makes chuck wagon hayes expenda....well, he was already expendable but this probably boots him right out of the "defensive specialist" role. if the kid can shoot without making me laugh he's an upgrade.

they also took a steve novak clone (2nd round) in maarty leunen and plan to send him overseas. they pretty much said he's a steve novak clone.

i think this makes the rockets better. another athletic big, and a backup for battier and mcgrady who looks pretty promising from where i sit.

I don't know much about Green, but he sounds like that 2/3 combo who can give McGrady or Battier a rest without losing as much size. Supposed to be very similar to Rudy Gay...so it at least makes sense.

Dorsey is one of the few guys outside of the big 12 (or who plays for Lamar) that i actually know something about. I like him a lot as that tough guy, high energy, defensive specialist, rebounder role. I know he is supposed to be long, but I don't know if he will be able to really fill in at C when Yao's getting a break. That leaves us with a logjam at the 4 spot. IF he's good enough to make the team (2nd rounders don't get guaranteed deals) then someone has to go. It's probably Hayes, but he sounds an awful lot like Landry....and Landry might be bring more in a trade than the chuck wagon. I don't think they are going to move Landry, but I think that possibility is there.

I have a feeling Mr. Morey still has some wheeling and dealing left to do...he just seems like that kind of guy.

quite honestly in both cases we would gain size. it would be nice if he could bring some ball-handling and some scoring to the table. nothing outrageous but a consistent contribution from what i would assume WAS luther head's role would be an enormous boost for the rockets and anyone thinking tracy mcgrady needs more time out of the games to save his glass-works.

i'm perfectly fine keeping scola, landry and dorsey. more energy, more rebounds, more wins. i love it. hayes shot himself in the foot by never working on a shot and insisting on the goof-troop crap he pulls out. his defense will keep him in the league but i think we've seen the last of chuckwagon the rocket.

i get the same feeling about morey as you papabear. he does give off that kind of vibe in interviews. if anyone gets traded though i think it will probably be one of the guards not named tracy mcgrady.
