Default Official Texans vs. Jaguars Game Thread, 9/15/2019

The 0-1 Texans first home game of the year sees the 0-1 Jacksonville Jaguars coming to town. The Jags put up a hefty fight against the KC Chiefs last week but eventually succumbed 40-26 and lost starting QB Nick Foles for a very long time in the process. Backup rookie QB Gardner Minshew accounted himself well in a relief debut going 22/25, 275 yds, 2 TDs, 1 INT.

The Texan defense will need to do better than they did against the Saints in their season opener losing 30-28 in New Orleans on MNF. The Texan offense did well but had some "slow" spots. With all the new players on both sides of the ball, the Texans are still a bit "under construction".

I like the Texans to win here but 9 pts (or so) seems like a lot against a physical Jags team - they seem to always give the Texans a scrap whatever their record is.....

At least we know the Texans won't be tanking for draft position. They'll be tanking because they just suck. Miami could have two Top 5 picks next spring. Well played, Houston.

Don't fall asleep on Gardner Minshew - he has looked good all the way through camp. He might (might) be the next rags-to-riches NFL quarterback.

Why would MNF schedule Cleveland - Jets?? Answer: 50th anniversary of the first MNF game which had Howard, Don and Keith Jackson in the first three-man booth to see the Browns beat Joe Namath. Expect them to reference this oh about 50 times.

Hilight from that broadcast: Pass is thrown to Browns WR Fair Hooker. Dandy Don chirps "I've never met a fair hooker..." I'm sure ABC's switchboard lit up.

I have seen NFL QBs far worse than Gardner Minshew. Like, last weekend.

Texans promote QB Alex McGough to active roster, cut Cornell Armstrong:

Quote:
The Texans promoted former Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Alex McGough to their active roster from the practice squad, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

The Jaguars had McGough in mind for a backup spot with starter Nick Foles on injured reserve with a broken collarbone, but the Texans were proactive about making sure McGough was on their active roster.

McGough was with the Jaguars during the preseason before joining the Texans on an upgraded practice squad salary worth over $20,000 per week, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.
So, the Jags probably wanted McGough back but the Texans promoted him to the 53. Watson's back (not debilitating at this point) probably also had something to do with it....

1) If nothing else, the Texans should be milking this guy for what he knows about the Jags' playbook. "If they line up like this, they're going to do that. If they spread out like this, it means they're going to throw a screen, etc."

2) I would not be shocked at all if we learn later on that Watson cracked his tailbone trying to stick the landing and the Texans will hide it for as long as possible. Watch for a few teams (maybe the Jags) to aim for his butt when they close in on the tackle.

There's no sympathy in this league.

Per CBS, WR Marquise Lee and CB A.J. Bouye will be out for Sunday's game with injuries.

He was good, highly accurate vs the Chiefs this past weekend.
Started the game with like 8 consecutive completions.
