Default AJ to Undergo Evaluation

Uh oh.....if I had to guess, I would say broken ribs. We can get by without him against Buffalo, but man, we need him if we are to be competitive against the Colts.

Chest injury sends Andre Johnson to hospital
Posted by Mike Florio on October 25, 2009 6:42 PM ET
Lost in the Texans build-a-big-lead-then-hold-on victory over the 49ers is that receiver Andre Johnson landed in a hospital after the game with what has been described as a chest injury.

"We're concerned," coach Gary Kubiak said after the 24-21 victory. "He could not go at the end and so there is concern until we see."

Johnson suffered the injury in the fourth quarter. He had two catches for 62 yards before leaving the game.

As our friends at Rotoworld point out, the fact that Johnson went to the hospital for evaluation could mean that he has one or more bruised or broken ribs.

No we cannot get by the Bills without our number 1 threat... The Bills gave the Panthers a 20-9 whooping and they have been playing good football ever since their big road win against the Jets. Hopefully we can get AJ back for this crucial game.

Jake Delhomme is why the Bills won. How he got an extension, I'll never know.

Yes, we cannot beat the powerhouse Bills without our #1. We should just pack it in for the rest of the season. Hopefully the players realize this so they will not exert too much energy in the remaining games and can go into next season fresh and healthy.

Uh, not to pile on you too much, but Buffalo won despite being outgained 425-167........

We have OD, Walter, Jacoby, and Andre Davis. I would think we SHOULD be OK without AJ for this. In all honesty, I just found out about it, and I am of the opinion we give him the week off so we can be sure to get him back for Indy.

Not to mention, I think they have the worst rush defense in the league. Maybe we can get some garbage stats up to crawl out of the cellar....

McClain now reporting: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...t/6685714.html

Texans receiver Andre Johnson left Sunday’s 24-21 victory over San Francisco with a chest injury but should be ready to play in the next game at Buffalo.

Johnson, who was injured in the fourth quarter, was taken to the hospital for X-rays before returning to Reliant Stadium to shower and dress after the Texans’ second consecutive victory.

“They’re telling me it’s a chest contusion,” coach Gary Kubiak said.

Kubiak will have an update on Johnson at his regular Monday afternoon news conference.

Johnson was injured when he caught a 44-yard pass on what proved to be the winning field goal drive. He fell on the ball, coughed up some blood and went to the sideline.

Johnson returned briefly, but when he tried to return a second time, some members of the team’s medical staff hid his helmet to keep him on the sideline rather than risk further injury.

Johnson’s catch down the middle gave the Texans the ball at San Francisco’s 41-yard line. Kris Brown finished the drive with a 50-yard field goal.

I added the bold for emphasis. AJ is a freaking beast! Get well soon, you are the freaking man!

So, basically, he's got some deep bruising but no broken bones. He should be fine. If there's any question, I'd hold him out this week so he's ready for Indy then has a bye week.

Buffalo is unless you think we realistiocally have a shot at Indy ?
Losing both of those first 2 home games is a big handicap to overcome.

hey its football... anything can happen. How many people thought that we could defeat the 1 loss Titans last year? All we need is a lucky break and hopefully we can get a split with Indy.

realistically the good make their own breaks. Look at the two TD's the Pgh D scored after getting turnovers. What the Texans STILL need to do is put 2 good halves back to back, well disregarding the effort in the Cincy game. Point is it needs to be poked into the teams head until they start doing it. And Slayton is the man, so he has to hold on to the ball and quit waving it around for the defense to swipe out of his arm.

this sounds cautiously optimistic in AJ's return for Buffalo game, guess we'll wait and see, Day-to-Day.

I am still Twitter-illiterate.....but, I can read my FFL player updates

I recieved the below from the CBS Sportsline FFL player updates. Sounds like good news for the home team.

* Johnson Tweets he's 'doing fine'

Texans WR Andre Johnson Tweeted on Tuesday that "the bruised lung is doing fine," and that he's feeling better. Johnson left the team's Week 7 game vs. San Francisco with a bruised lung, and he finished with two catches for 62 yards in over three quarters of work. Doctors said earlier this week that Johnson would probably be OK for the team's Week 8 game at Buffalo.

Andre is the MAN. He is the epitome of what an NFL football player should be. I don't know how much the Texans are paying him, but he's worth every penny.

I'll take his words for it if he said that he is doing ok. I was a bit worried today because ESPN's injury analyst Stephania Bell said on ESPN radio that a bruised lung is not a day to day injury. She said that Andre would have to be very questionable for Sunday's game because a bruised lung can carry the complications of bleeding into the lungs if it is not properly healed when he takes a hit.

Receiver Andre Johnson did not practice today because of a bruised lung. Andre Davis took his place in the lineup across from Kevin Walter.

Johnson was injured in Sunday's 24-21 victory over San Francisco. He expects to play at Buffalo.

"Andre ran on the side some today," coach Gary Kubiak said. "I'm encouraged by what I saw today. If he doesn't have any setbacks, I feel good about him being able to play."
Linebacker Brian Cushing (foot) and free safety Eugene Wilson (groin) also missed practice. Cornerback Dunta Robinson (hamstring) was limited. All are expected to play against the Bills.

Defensive end Mario Williams participated in every drill.

"We're trying to be smart with them," Kubiak said. "We've got a bunch of guys that can use a break, and they'll get one in two weeks."

The Texans have their open date after they play Nov. 8 at Indianapolis.

Bad as we need this game, I would rather see AJ held out than risk further injury.
