Default Ourlads In The Mock Draft Simulator

For those who don't know, Ourlads is no Johnny-Come-Lately to the NFL draft scene. They've been around at least since I started paying attention to the draft in the late 70s, early 80s. They have a strong reputation but their draft board differs extensively from some of the others and offers some new names I had not seen before (the mega-sleepers).

I ran them through Fanspeak's Mock Draft Simulator and accepted the Falcons trade-down for their first four picks (1-6, 2-5, 3-4 and 4-3). To be honest, 15 draft choices are way too many so I tried to trade back up into the second day. The best I could do was dealing 4-3 (from ATL) and 6-5 (from OAK for Schaub) to the always-flexible Patriots for 3-29.

This draft looks like a dream-come-true except the OTs were flying off the shelf faster than I could grab one so I eventually tabbed a Canadian import you've probably never heard of (so I'm linking a profile). Here goes:

1-6 (from ATL): Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo. All the QBs were still available (the highest ranked QB on Ourlad's Big Board is Manziel at #20) so I took the last of the big three pass-rushers and hoped a QB would be there at 2-1.

2-1: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville. Manziel and Bortles were snatched up in the first round leaving the Texans with a great value here.

2-5 (from ATL): Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech. This was the luxury pick where I could have taken an OT but the best ones were taken and Amaro is going to make some NFL team *really* happy. Just couldn't resist.

3-1: Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi St. The last of the top three guards in the draft. If he keeps his weight under control, he'll be a force.

3-4 (from ATL): Shayne Skov, ILB, Stanford. After Mosley of Alabama, the top ILBs were all still here so I could have taken Christian Jones or Chris Borland but I think Skov is the best fit in a 3-4. Some us have had him on our wish list since before the Senior Bowl.

3-29 (from NE): Tre Mason, RB, Auburn. IMO, the best tailback in the draft. Proved his mettle in the National Championship Game. Great insurance if Foster is not 100% or was a product of the Kubiak system.

4-1: Dominique Easley, DT, Florida. Some have him ranked higher. I think some red flags will drop him about here unless some team ignores the flags.

4-35 (comp) Ahmad Dixon, S, Baylor. Explosive (some say dirty) hitter with a knack for big plays. He and Swearinger will put some fear in opposing receivers. Surprised to find him fall this far. Sorry for the music but here's a highlight reel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK-eILuV_xk

5-1: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OT, McGill University (Canada). Like I said, all the OTs flew off the shelves and this guy, a raw project from Canada, was the top guy left on Ourlad's board for about two rounds. After reading the profile, WTH? A meaner Seth Wand? Give him a shot with a fifth-round pick.

6-1: Chris Davis Jr., CB, Auburn. Several late-round CBs to choose from and many of you know this is my preference. He can run back kicks (sorry, Tide), has enough size for the big receivers and should provide nickel depth if nothing else.

6-35 (comp): Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida. This guy's just the opposite. Some boards have him rated much higher but he's only 5-9 which is a liability in today's NFL. For a low sixth, bring him in and see what he can do.

7-1: Mike Davis, WR, Texas. Yes, this is a homer pick but he's a big play guy who will probably get picked in the 4th or 5th. Too good to ignore here.

7-41 (comp): Justin Ellis, DT, Louisiana Tech. Several interesting names still left but I was watching this guy go in the 4th and 5th in the other mocks so to take him as "Mr. Irrelevent" ought to be good value here.

This would be like a Nirvana draft for me except for the reach at RT. You still can't have everyone you want but this type of draft would have me extremely excited for our future.
