Yeah, could see a few other IR or cuts so they can get in some younger , faster guys in to take a look at. Build toward next year time.

Agreed. I loved watching Ed Reed when he was younger, but he certainly got knocked down a rung or two in my book the last few years of is career.

The guy just wasn't very good anymore. I don't hold it against him and I don't get those who do hold it against him. He was what he was a year ago, we took a gamble, and we lost. Now that we are done we can at least start to put the mistake behind us.

Good luck going forward Ed. I'm glad you got one last pay day before your earning potential dried up. I am not so glad you got it from us, but oh well. Ed Reed doesn't crack the top 10 of reasons we fell apart this year.

Reports are that S Jawanza Starling has been signed off the Giants' practice squad to take Reed's roster spot. He was in camp with the Texans as an undrafted free agent.

Goodbye Eddie Reed
Though we barely saw you at all
You flew in on McNair's jet
After Quin left for Detroit
They talked about your impact
And your leadership
As the Ravens wished you luck

And it seemed to us
That you had lost a step or two
Not able to make a play
When you suited up
And you would have liked to start
Before that Keo kid
Your labrum burned out long before
Your contract ever did

With our luck, he now signs with the Colts and picks off a pass against us to seal a victory in Indy.

from cbslocal - added a safety and a LB today

Houston (CBS Houston) – With Joe Mays hampered by an oblique injury the Texans added some depth at linebacker on Wednesday. They signed linebacker D.J. Smith, who was last with the San Diego Chargers.

Smith was a sixth round pick of the Packers in 2011 and has 82 career tackles. The 24-year old played his college football at Appalachian State.

With the departure of Ed Reed they also signed Safety Jawanza Starling to the active roster. Starling was in training camp with the Texans. Wide receiver Rico Richardson and cornerback Loyce Means were added to the practice squad.

DJ is 6'0'' and 239 lbs. Starling 6'0'' and 205 lbs. most likely. special teams help and depth hopefully

both young and hopefully fast and in good shape and not injured

Kubiak today said they were planning to play younger guys while discussing release of Ed Reed.

I was in favor of the E Reed signing in the beginning - thought he still had something in the tank. And then the hip condition thing came out.... And then his dodgy work ethic came out (never heard about the Ed-being-Ed thing)..... Doubt it was his comments that got him released - more like an accumulation of everything plus the latest demotion....

Glover Quin? I was glad to see him go, too. But I've had a bias ever since that Jax game when he served the Hail Mary pass to the Jax receiver for the winning score. *Not* heads-up. *Not* a player I want to keep....

Keo just might be getting it. It is not uncommon for new-to-the-NFL DB's to stink it up for a few years before they find their niche (See KJ).

Swearinger looks mighty impressive so far but I won't be shocked if he makes a few mistakes along the way.....

Things didn't work out for Ed Reed and the Houston Texans, so the ballhawking free safety opted for more familiarity Thursday when he joined his third team in less than a year.

The New York Jets announced a contract agreement with Reed and expected to have the five-time all-pro and former defensive player of the year on the practice field today.

Looks like Coach Reed is headed to the Big Apple.

One benefit to the lost season is that Swearinger will get to make his mistakes this year when it doesn't matter and he'll be more experienced next year.

I'm still not a Keo fan but I am willing to be impressed.

There are bigger needs to address than the secondary. Their play improves if we can rediscover a pass rush.

Texans just claimed OLB Ricky Sapp, 6'4", 252 lb off waivers from Jets, drafted 5th round in 2010 by Eagles. Jets waived Sapp to make room for Ed Reed. Texans waived. RB Graham to make room for Sapp.

BALTIMORE - Ed Reed now is 0-2 against his former team in Baltimore this season, losing to the Ravens both as a Texan and a Jet, and he didn't see his team score a touchdown in those games.
In a 19-3 loss, the future Hall of Fame safety played a central role in the game's only touchdown.
Leading 12-3 in the final seconds of the third quarter, the Ravens, knowing they were about to lose the wind at their back for the duration of the game, went deep.
The Jets expected that, playing a "quarters" defense designed to guard against a long ball.
Somehow, Joe Flacco was able to find Jacoby Jones for a 66-yard scoring pass, even with cornerback Dee Milliner and Reed in the immediate vicinity.
Jets coach Rex Ryan said "that one's kind of a 'Ripley's Believe It or Not.' "
It appeared Reed was unable to locate the ball in the air, but Ryan said, "I'm not going to pin it on any one individual. Certainly not on one guy. Certainly not Ed Reed. He'd probably be third on that list, in all honesty."
Said Reed: "I never really saw the ball. I should have played it different. I probably should have just grabbed Jacoby and took the pass interference instead, given the position I was in."
Reed, like the coaches, said he knew what was coming.
"I mean, they had the wind; it's just that simple," he said. "It was like, here comes a shot . . . What would you do? I tell one of the fastest guys to just run deep and locate the ball, and that's what he did."

Coach Reed was the big winner this year in the "Ed Reed Sweepstakes", the Texans the big losers and the Jets a much lesser loser. But check out the link here as Eds got another photo shoot shaking hands with his x-Ravens teammates in another losing effort. Gotta love Ed though, he's got a hustle that's tough to deny, just ask Bob Mcnair if you don't believe me.

And in his brief stay in New York, not only has the veteran safety not helped them win, he’s been an active participant in the losing.

But Jets coach Rex Ryan was in full Tammy Wynette mode Monday, standing by Reed in the face of mounting evidence that he simply can’t play.

He’s going to be starting unless he’s injured,” Ryan said, via Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.
