Default Send our #2 to the Eagles for Shelton Brown

I think Philly would take it. Would we get anyone better with a #2? Maybe, but I doubt it. It instantly upgrades our secondary and provides insurance if DRob can't come back or they decide to gamble and not extend his deal before the end of the year. Consider how strong we would (potentially) be with DRob and Brown starting and Bennet as the nickle or FS. Either that or put DRob at FS if he's lost a step. I have no problem giving up a draft pick for a talented young (keyword being 'young') player at a key position.

Sign Kenton Keith (or Benson if he proves he has his head on straight) and trade for Brown and you've instantly upgraded the secondary and added young depth.

I wouldn't have a problem with Brown, and I could probably be talked into a two....although I think the chances that it could actually happen are pretty low. I also don't think it would fix much if our LB's and safeties are getting abused as much as they have been. I saw Greenwood covering Hines Ward once for godsakes....I know it was a zone covereage, but you know how that's going to to end.

LZ was proposing a Sage+3rd for Maroney. That's definitely something I could get behind. I would love to add someone like Brown, but (1) I'd like to have a second after 2 years of not having one, and (2) would the Eagles deal him for a second?

Either trade would be fine with me.

is everybody panicking after one game? I think we got to let things develop a little more for now.

Who's panicking?

RB, CB, LB, and DE were problems before our first game and will be problems afterward. Looking to address those problems isn't "panicking."

Yes, suggesting ways to strengthen the team with a quality player is certainly a sign of panic.

I wasn't suggesting that it would fix the D's problems. Just that it would be a good move and strengthen the secondary to where we could focus on the other areas that need fixing. But what the heck, they made their BIG DB move with Reeves (ugh...).

Apparently Richard Smith didn't.

The Pats need an offensive weapon like Maroney now more than ever with Brady down. As for the #2 for Brown, I'm not sure Philly would do it either. However, if they would, Brown's a proven quality starter in this league and I'd rather give a #2 for him than risk drafting an unknown.

There's a reason Football Outsiders calls this week National Jump to Conclusions Week. After 8-9 months without a real game, its really easy to look at your team's week 1 as indicative of what season they're headed for. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. I think some of our weaknesses that were exploited this week will continue to be problems, but I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll end up exactly where I thought we would (7-9 win range).

I dunno, but after Schaubs performance Sunday do you guys really feel that comfortable about trading Sage away even though we might get a very appealing offer from another team ?

Yes. Sage is gone after this season. Might as well get something for him while we can. And if we decide that Matt's not the answer after the season, we can sign/draft someone to replace Sage.

He would definitely improve our secondary, but for as much heat as some of our corners take (outside of Dunta) I've always felt that part of the blame had to do with the LB's and S. After the Pittsburgh game I'm even more sure of it. We could have Deion Sanders and Champ Bailey in their prime playing corner and we would still give up huge passing yards.

I'm not in the panic that most Texans fans are, but if were knocked out of the playoff race early I hope that we let guys like Adibi, Barber, Molden, Harrison....hell even PS guys like Coley and Roberson play. try out every combination of LB's and Safeties we can.

My suggestion on trading for Brown has nothing to do with the Steelers game. It has everything to with the lousy play of Reeves, Petey and our Safeties thoughout, well, history. It also has everything to do with the unknowns and waiting on Bennett and Molden to mature and the injury/contract status of DRob. I'm talking about the next 5 years not the next 5 games - although a player like Brown would certainly help in the next 5.

That's going to happen when you run a lot zones. Once it looked like Greenwood was trying to run with Ward. It still could have been zone coverage, but it's hard to tell on TV. Zone coverage can help to hide any mismatches, athletically speaking, that might occur but only if you run it well. Greenwood was especially terrible. I thought he got a bum rap from most fans the last few years, but it looks like he got old quick. Hopefully I'm wrong....or at least right that Adibi could be an upgrade, but he has to get healthy first.

You have got to give some credit

My thought is this: if Schaub continues to struggle, or even plays just somewhat less than at our expectations, then bench him and play Sage. If Sage is superior, then
throw the bank at him and release Schaub.

Right now I think I prefer this approach.

I also think if we trade Sage and Schaub gets hurt, the season is definitely a total loss. Don't like that prospect either.

I don't either. I'm already sick of Schaub's "lack of toughness". He seems to get knocked around easily. The thing we could all agree about Carr was that the kid had balls and was tough as nails. I don't feel comfortable trading Schaubby's backup. Who's on the FA QB heap? Maybe we can trade Sage for a pick and pick someone up from there?

lack? he got up every time the steelers hit him. that's 1 game towards him being tougher than everybody gives him credit for. we'll see...
