Default Say It Ain't So Coach Joe - Texans T-3rd in Special Teams Penalties

Quote:
According to Elias Sports Bureau, the Texans are tied with three teams for the third-most special-teams penalties in the league with 18 -- that’s an unacceptable 1.5 a game.

I'm not going to be nearly as hard on Marciano as chuck, but doing this in a year when the team is failing to meet expectations could be rough on Coach Joe continuing his 8-year run with the team.

It does seem like a lot of penalties, but then two teams likely to be in the playoffs, Green Bay and Philadelphia have even more at 26 and 22.

I agree with coach Kubes, this is part of the small things you can do better to help win the close games.

I was thinking that players should know better and be in the game better, they aren't like 8 year old kids that don't know any better.

Maybe it is the players in trouble, not the coach who has demonstrated over many years he knows how to coach well.

When you're having trouble like we are otherwise, discipline and limiting penalties is CRUCIAL. Can't shoot ourselves in the foot more than we already are.

Penalties hurt, but they're not everything. In spite of the penalties (which are factored in), the Texans are ranked 7th in special teams play by Football Outsiders statistics, which is higher than the offense (10th) and much higher than the defense (21st...which might be the highest our defense has ever ranked, sadly enough.)
