Congrats to Mike for his second championship in the league's five years. He took down ArlingtonTexan in the final (after AT took me out as the #1 seed the week before, sweet revenge for him after 2007!). Here's the blurb I posted on the league's message board about the winning team:

How They Did It
The South Texas Sooners claimed the league title - the first team to earn its second championship - after a 7-6 repeat campaign last season in which a tie-breaker cost them a shot in the playoffs. The Sooners, with an astounding 8-0 postseason record since 2005 (having missed the inaugural playoffs in 2004 when no consolation bracket existed), entered this year's playoffs as the #2 seed with a 9-4 record, including a 7-1 run down the stretch.

Though this is the Sooners' second championship in three seasons, the winning rosters hardly resemble one another. At quarterback, a May waiver wire pickup in Kyle Orton proved just good enough to take over for 2006's QB, Carson Palmer, who was hurt and ineffective for most of the 2008 season. At running back, LaDainian Tomlinson remains, but Larry Johnson was acquired via trade for Marvin Harrison last year and Brandon Jacobs assumed a more prominent role on the roster to help fuel a steady stream of points. And 2005 draft pick Roddy White has taken over since the '06 championship for the departed Harrison as the team's leader at wide receiver to join Steve Smith and '07 draft pick Anthony Gonzalez. Tight end Owen Daniels, a rookie on the first championship squad, proved to be a solid contributor again in 2008 for the Sooners.

Key Players - How the Sooners were built:
QB - Kyle Orton (2008 Waivers), Carson Palmer (2004.9.01)
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson (2004.1.01), Brandon Jacobs (2006 Waivers), Larry Johnson (2007 Trade), Sammy Morris (2006 Waivers)
WR - Roddy White (2005.2.06), Steve Smith (2004.3.01), Anthony Gonzalez (2007.1.14)
TE - Owen Daniels (2006.4.08)
PK - Dan Carpenter (2008 Waivers)
DEF - Minnesota (2004.10.14), Washington (2004.18.14)

Note - Draft pick in parens shown as YYYY.Round.Pick. The 2004 draft was the league's inaugural selection. Subsequent drafts consisted of rookies and free agents.

Side note - SweetPea (jcp) won the Petey Faggins Award as the champs of the consolation bracket.
Upcoming dates:

2/14 - Roster cutdown to 26
2/15 - Trading re-opens and roster sizes increased to 34 to facilitate trading
5/17 - DRAFT DAY!! for rookies and free agents. Begins at 9pm CT.
