Every penny will count this year.
From Schefter:
Houston, Detroit and N.Y. Giants are all roughly $700,000 over NFL's salary cap, according to league source. Houston can take their cap exception from the Redskins and Cowboys and get under the cap, but the Giants and Lions will have to make a move or restructure contracts to get under cap. They have until Wednesday to do it.

The brown deal didn't include any new money before next season, so I am guessing they would do the barwin deal the same way. Also, from other sources I have heard that the texans have a couple million to play with. With all of that said, I am not thinking a new deal for barwin gets done before the season at this point anyway, though I would like to be wrong on that.
