Sorry guys, it was me. I switched over to the Cowboys when we were behind 20-7 because I was taking a crash course on Excel 2007 and found that, even muted, I kept stealing glances at the game.
So I notice in the corner of the screen that the Texans were coming back (still don't know how they did it) and turned back to the Texans just as they took the 27-23 lead. I'm a jinx. My bad.
I've had a few meltdowns in my time. I threw a shoe that broke a lamp back when Earl Campbell fumbled and the Raiders ran it back 99 yards. I screamed myself hoarse as the Oilers blew a 35-3 lead to Buffalo, saying "this isn't happening. It can't be happening". I had a screaming, door-slamming fit when the f-ing Braves came back to win Game 4 of the 2004 LCS, knowing we'd have to go back to Atlanta for a game we'd surely lose.
Pretty much all Houston fans know the feeling.
But this game didn't really get to me, and neither did last week's loss because it's what I expect from our pass defense. They suck. Props to Smith for ignoring our secondary for so long that we have no talent back there. AFAIC, it's personnel that's the problem. Dumb penalties and dumb mistakes.
So, no, this wasn't worth punching a hole over. But it sucks that we almost had a great comeback win to celebrate but we just couldn't stop a team from going 80+ yards in :48 seconds with no timeouts when a field goal would not have helped them. To top it off, the Jets did it with ten seconds to spare.
They're living a charmed life this year.
