SI.com Writers Build NFL Teams via Salary Cap

Pretty interesting exercise. I need to look more closely at this in a bit, but I thought I would share here in case others had not seen this yet.

Quote:

Salary Cap Roster Challenge

Peyton Manning. LaDainian Tomlinson. Brian Urlacher. If you were starting an NFL team from scratch to compete this fall, these three guys would seem to be the perfect place to start.
But what if you had to take into account the $116 million salary cap for the 2008 season? Now, Manning ($18.7M cap number), Tomlinson ($7.8M) and Urlacher ($5.8M) might not fit into your 53-man roster plans.
For the inaugural SI.com Salary Cap Roster Challenge, we gave our personnel experts Michael Lombardi and Bucky Brooks $116 million apiece and told them to go build a team, using current players' 2008 cap numbers.

Dunta Robinson and DeMeco Ryans were selected by one writer, and Mario Williams was picked by the other as the only Texans selected.

peyton makes 18 mil a year? jesus christ!

i can't even begin to get into the article so how 'bout a top 5 list of "Texans who I'm suprised weren't picked"?

in order
1. Andre Johnson (seems like a no-brainer)
2. Owen Daniels (he's definitely the best talent in relation to lowest pay at TE)
3. Amobi Okoye (he's just good)
4. Andre Davis (as a kick returner)
5. Eric Winston (i know, but i couldn't really think of anyone else)
Honorable Mention:
Kevin Walter

AJ has an 8.7M cap hit.

It looks like Welker and Hester were the return guys. Both of which I can agree with. Hence no Davis.

As for OD, I could see him as a better #3 or #4 TE than what both teams picked.

One team had a 4-3 def and one a 3-4 def. So Amobi only had a shot on one team, Lombardi's, and considering he threw 33M at the Dline and the guys on there it was a long shot.

Winston and Walter didnt have a prayer.

PS

I may try and make my own later.
