misc. Texans
Just a bunch of randomness for discussion:
--------------- The Capers regime (4 years) = 18-46 The Kubiak regime (4 years) = 31-33 --------------------- Texans record in 2009 in games decided by one score or less = 5-6 -------------------------- Remember preseason 2009 when the Saints and Vikes beat the Texans mainly on big runs? All the freaking out and hand wringing (especially the chron blogs)? Ditto on the Jets in the Week 1 loss? Well, all those teams ended up to be pretty good teams. So you just never know. ----------------- The Texans really turned around the run defense in 2009 and it became top notch when Cushing and Pollard came on, the D-line went for speed and the other DB's (Dunta/Reeves/Quin) settled in... Pass defense and pass rush not so great and needs work/upgrades... |
Pretty good chronology Arky, so where do you think we will try to improve the team so as to keep moving up?

------------------ What would I do? Hmmm, I think the offense is almost set - a couple or three interior lineman and a dependable running back (or two) and a little luck with health and they are good to go. The defense made some huge strides this year but I think there are still some holes. The Bush/Kollar plan seems to be working and I think most of us are pointing to Cushing and Pollard as the biggest reasons for the improvement. Those two came up big - playmakers extraordinaire - which makes me wonder what this defense could be if the Texans somehow couldn't acquire a couple more just like 'em, maybe a CB and a DT... ------------------- I never thought this was a playoff team to begin when the season began with so I'm a little chagrined to read here and there that there are quite a few that are disappointed or disgruntled with the team's direction (still going up in my book). Did they really think this was a playoff team with a playoff roster? How can someone objectively look at both lines, the overall inexperience/youth (Texans reportedly have the youngest starting roster in the NFL) and assorted others, people like Dunta "lost a step" Robinson and think this is a playoff team? I think they're close - they're real close - closer than they've ever been. The last two games (Dolphins/Pats), I thought they were there and might have made some noise had they made the playoffs. More than likely, they would have done what young/inexperienced first-time teams do in the playoffs and that is get knocked out right away... Making the tournament is nice but once you get there, it's nice to win a time or two or three... |
Amen to the CB and DT, with maybe an OG/C mixed in there somewhere. I also think they do their due diligence this year and get a RB they can count on, what with Slaton's future up in the air after neck surgery, and Arian
Foster our only hope. I'm not too disappointed with last season. We had more than our share of injuries. Maybe that is why they fired the strength and conditioning coach. I want to see us come out of the gate ready to go this year. Seems like we can't get started until the 3rd or 4th game of the season. |
