7 Round Mock

http://www.draftsite.com/nfl/2010mock.htm

20 Houston Joe McKnight* RB 6'0" 200 USC
51 Houston Patrick Robinson CB 5'11" 194 Florida State
82 Houston Jordan Shipley WR 6'0" 195 Texas
116 Houston John Jerry OG 6'5" 348 Mississippi
147 Houston Nate Collins DT 6'2" 290 Virginia
158 Houston (from San Diego) Tim Hiller QB 6'5" 225 Western Michigan
178 Houston Josh Pinkard S 6'1" 215 USC
212 Houston Kenny Alfred OC 6'2" 300 Washington State

My Cherry Pick

20 Trent Williams OT 6'5" 320 Oklahoma
51 Brandon Ghee CB 6'1" 190 Wake Forest
82 Jon Asamoah OG 6'5" 309 Illinois
116 Ben Tate RB 5'11" 211 Auburn
147 Nate Collins DT 6'2" 290 Virginia
158 Myron Lewis CB 6'2" 200 Vanderbilt
178 A.J. Edds OLB 6'4" 244 Iowa
212 Jay Ross DT 6'3" 305 East Carolina

Williams and Asamoah makes the OL formidable. I hate spending a first round pick on a LG, but Chester Pitts may not be back from injury and we saw a bad run team get worse. A line of Brown, Williams, Caldwell, Asamoah, Winston brings a smile to my face.

I'm giving Ghee a shot at CB to replace Dunta Robinson, at worst, he's a FS like the Cards' Antrel Rolle who can match up with Dallas Clark. Lewis is another CB/FS tweener who may get on the field faster than Molden.

Ben Tate is insurance for Foster and Slaton. With an improved OL, I'm betting the running game improves without spending a top pick on a position that may only produce 3-4 years.

Collins makes Zgonina expendable and Ross does the same for Okam. Edds in the 6th round is a steal in my opinion. I think he'd push Diles at the WILL.

Of our first 3 picks, use 2 for the OLine and the third for a corner ? I love it !

HPF Bob 01-19-2010 10:38 PM

Tim Tebow to the Raiders? That's like casting Snow White for a porn movie. That's gonna blow a few minds.

Somebody's boy Scott from LSU lasts until deep in the 5th round, btw.

sinnister 01-19-2010 11:37 PM

I like the Shipley Pick. It would be hard for me to pass him in the 3rd......depending on who is available. I do agree that we need to improve the OL and DL interior, and a RB would be lovely. And a CB and a S......

LOL, dig it, a RB coming off an injury could hurt his stock, we'll see where he is after the combine. I still think we need a bruiser at RB for our "tough" yards.

my cherry picks, although I wouldn't have been too upset with their picks...

20 Dan Williams DT Tenn
51 Patrick Robinson CB Florida St
82 Dexter McCluster RB Miss
116 Mike Neal DT Purdue
147 Charles Scott RB LSU
158 A.J. Wallace CB Penn St
178 Leigh Tiffin K Alabama
212 Thomas Austin C Clemson or Mike Pouncey OG Florida

I have Wallace as our potential FS

Shipley's a great pick if we're willing to let Kevin Walter walk. If not, there's no room for him behind AJ, JJ, AD, Walter, Anderson...

painekiller 01-21-2010 01:39 AM

My turn

20 Mike Iupati OG 6'6" 330 Idaho
51 Morgan Burnett* S 6'1" 210 Georgia Tech
82 Jon Asamoah OG 6'5" 309 Illinois
116 Vince Oghobaase DT 6'6" 312 Duke
147 Charles Scott RB 5'11" 228 LSU
158 Boo Robinson DT 6'2" 326 Wake Forest
178 Leigh Tiffin K 6'1" 198 Alabama
212 Keith Toston RB 6'1" 210 Oklahoma State

American Idle 01-21-2010 08:50 AM

I love the Horns and Shipley, but don't we already have a Shipley like player in Anderson?

Blitzwood 01-27-2010 10:23 PM

I like....

20 Jared Odrick DT Penn State
51 Reshad Jones FS Georgia
82 Daryl Washington ILB TCU
116 Kyle Wilson CB Boise St
147 Charles Scott RB LSU
156 Linval Joseph DT ECU
178 Leigh Tiffin K Alabama
212 Deji Karim RB Southern Ill.

I felt we could really improve our DT's with this draft since our production there ranks close to last in the league, as with our running game.

I also felt adding R. Jones and K. Wilson to our secondary will really upgrade our secondary. I feel they can start from day one.

Washington will have a chance to start, or provide some much needed depth incase one of our LB's gets injured.

painekiller 01-29-2010 02:42 AM

178 Houston Tyler Sheehan QB 6'4" 227 Bowling Green
212 Houston Jim Cordle OC 6'4" 286 Ohio State

Why such a fixation on Weatherspoon? Every year there seems to be a message board darling. This year it seems to be Weatherspoon. There are higher and better needs, I believe, going into this years draft. A RB, a CB, a DT, and a OG should lead the parade, but not that much on LB. You wanta enlighten me, PK?

Tricksy with the trade-down.

I'll do this early with an alternate I wouldn't complain about.

1 Brandon Graham olb/de - Mike Iupati og
2 Kile Wilson cb - Markice Pouncey c
3 John Asamoan og - Anthony Dixon rb
4 Ben Tate rb - Kurt Coleman s
5 A.J.Edds olb - LeGarrette Blount rb
6. Cam Thomas DT - Robert Johnson s
7. Chris Cook cb - Larry Asante s

A lot of people thought Conner Barwin would be playing olb on a 3-4 defense. If Graham could beat him out for the de spot, I think he could make a great wlb. If not, Graham plays wlb. If you take Graham, take Blount in the fifth. If you take Iupati, take Edds in the fifth.

I know A.J. Edds is barely there at the Texans 6th pick, but I take him in the fifth to be sure.

Got two RBs, got a shut down CB (IMO), got a very good safety prospect, I got two of the better OG in this draft, all of this without a 1st round pick on the "needs" you where calling for.

As for DT, I like Dan Williams, but he was gone. The mock draft I used by draftsite.com, was almost a worse case situation for the Texans. The guys I really want are gone before 20. After the Senior Bowl I am not picking Iupati at 20, and the 1st round trade downs do not net me much, so a went for the larger drop. That is where Weatherspoon was a BPA after the drop.

I would rather have chosen between Perrish Cox, Donovan Warren, Terrence Cody, Morgan Burnett to name a few. But they where gone in this mock after the trade down.

BTW I like Weatherspoon leadership, high motor, side line to side line range, can play all three LB positions, and he is a stud in coverage. I have been looking for a group on this team that can be a strength, and Weatherspoon helps the Texans become elite at LB.

BTW the more we mock Weatherspoon, the less of a chance that he is our pick.

I liked Spoon last year, but he returned for a Senior year. I'm not going to jump off his bandwagon now. We have higher needs? Yes. Is there a better player? I haven't been convinced by any of the guys I've seen. If Haden is still on the board, I'll bite. Eric Berry? Sure. I'm not drafting a Guard in the 1st round unless he can play OT in a pinch. So, if Trent Williams is still around, I'd be willing to go that route. I'm not sure if I draft a RB in the 1st round until the team makes the playoffs. The kid from Fresno in the 2nd sounds good to me. So, overall, I forsee the best player available when we pick will be Spoon. I'd rather have 3 great LB's on the field and simply remove a NT on passing downs.

Ok, I can understand that Weatherspoon is one of the best players in the draft. My reason for asking was that, if we went for him in the first, would there really be a good sound player at the other positions of need in the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th rounds? I didn't, don't, think so, thus my question. I would like this draft to be the feat de acompli to put us up there with the elite teams in the league, and one that would set the tone for a run up to the Super Bowl.

Other than DT, I would say yes that we can find a RB, CB, or OG in the later rounds.

NBT did you not notice that I traded down and took Weatherspoon in the 2nd round? I did not take a 1st rounder, instead I opted for Weatherspoon and Wilson in the 2nd round to replace a 1st rounder. (Allen was drafted using the Texans 2nd round pick).

NBT 02-03-2010 07:34 PM

Nope, sorry, I did not notice that. Excusa meo! :p

OK, I've gone off my draftboard and tried to stay true to it as I went through the 7 rounder that drafttek has up now. This is my attempt without any trades.

1. RB Ryan Matthews 5'11" 220 Fresno St.
2. CB Kyle Wilson 5'10" 185 Boise St
3. DT Tyson Alualu 6'2" 295 California
4. DT Cam Thomas 6'4" 331 North Carolina
5. CB Brian Jackson 6'1" 202 Oklahoma
6. FS Chris Cook 6'2" 210 Virginia
7. OC Eric Olsen 6'4" 303 Notre Dame
8. OG Thomas Austin 6'3" 315 Clemson

I hate drafting a RB in the 1st round, but Spoon was off the board. :D
Kyle Wilson is my "replacement" for Dunta Robinson, because I am not paying him $10M for his effort and production. Alualu makes Zgonina expendable so he can retire already as well as give Okoye some competition. Cam Thomas is way undervalued in this mock draft, and I was happy to get him to replace Okam. Brian Jackson and Chris Cook are fighting it out for FS and the Dimeback. Two big OL to round out the draft.
