Jan. 24 Conference Championships
Jan. 31 AFC-NFC Pro Bowl, Dolphins Stadium, Miami, Fla.
Feb. 7 Super Bowl XLIV, Dolphins Stadium, Miami, Fla.

From what I can see, it looks like the first half of the schedule will be a lot easier than the second half. If they take care of business, though, they could easily enter that second half at 5-3 or 6-2 IMO. There is a monday night game on Week 11 in Houston against the Titans. It makes me nervous that the last game of the season is against New England though, lets hope their playoff hopes dont come down to that game....

Good to see another Monday night game. Also glad that the off week is coming a little bit later in the season. Comes right in the middle of a big stretch of games within the division, and will provide a much needed break. Was kind of hoping for another prime time game or two, but I'll take what I can get.

painekiller 04-14-2009 06:42 PM

My initial run through the schedule and predicting wins scared me. I came away with 12 very winnable games.

And are we ever going to not play the Raiders? It seems we play them in Oakland every year, I know we don't, but it seems that way.

Them and Miami.

WMH 04-14-2009 06:56 PM

In looking at the later games, Miami and New England, there could be a possibility of flex times, giving us other options at prime time.
Of course the "good guys" would need to hold up thier end of the bargain for that to happen.......:D

TheMatrix31 04-14-2009 06:58 PM

Damn, dude!

We only have ONE 1:15pm game?

ARGH!

Yeah 12 0r 13.

Nconroe 04-14-2009 07:41 PM

We get 3 of first 4 games at home, so, we got a shot at a good 3-1 start. I'm hoping we can win a little against Indy and Titans this year. Then finish strong. We're bound to win atleast 10, no injuries, maybe do get to 12 at this optimistic time.

American Idle 04-14-2009 08:07 PM

Definitely a more favorable schedule than last year, but by default of playing against the NFC West we kind of knew that. I to love where our bye is this year instead of what became our bye last year. I think the first and most of the last third of the schedule is pretty favorable. The NE game could go either way and is what makes it not completely favorable, but overall Im happy.

I wish there was at least another prime time game in there but happy we at least got one. I would have liked it to be against Indy or even Jax again as it would have been more exciting to watch. I doubt the Tenn game will provide any pre or post buzz. At least with Jax last year, there was a good response to after the game saying it was entertaining. I think with Tenn their stout defense makes them boring to watch, especially without the VY factor. No reflection on their talent of the team, just not that entertaining to watch.

Saw that the "non-white and red picnic bench cover" Texas team is getting 6 prime time games. Sucks, but they definitely have more of a national fan base.

Also, doesn't one of the networks have the option to move games to the Sunday night time slot at some point in the season, or are those set in stone already?

Last note, I remember hearing that we would be playing Oakland (and maybe Miami?) again this year when the season ended due to some sort of system with what our records were. I have no idea of what system that is or how accurate the source is, but I did hear it on the AM radio.

*Edit- I just discovered that the Monday night game is in Houston...that makes it even better!!!

I'll tell you right now that I will be the primary cause for at least 3 Titan false starts that night.

jcp 04-14-2009 09:34 PM

Hard not to like that schedule...

Barring injuries we have no excuse not to be in the playoff hunt...even for the division crown...right up to the end.

11 wins should be considered a bare minimum...12-13 is a very reasonable aspiration

anything less than 10 and I fear we'll be starting over again...the downside to expectation

Keith 04-14-2009 09:42 PM

I love this schedule.

They open with three of four at home, which should help them avoid what they went through on the field to start last year (hurricanes be damned).

I think how they survive that stretch Week 5 to the bye week (@ARI, @CIN, vs. SF, @BUF, @IND) could be telling. If they get to the bye with a 6-3 record, look out. Even 5-4 would be good imo.

Because the bye comes at a terrific time, just before a key home game against the Titans, then, and here's the best part, they stay at home for the short week to face the Colts. Those two games could decide the season.

No real cold weather games on the schedule (though honestly that really hasn't been much of a problem for the Texans in the past). Plus, that last game against the Patriots could mean the Pats have nothing to play for and might rest their starters... might be the best week of the season to face them.

With all six division games though over by Week 13, the Texans need to take care of their business sooner than later... Schaub's health is probably the #1 key to the season followed by improvement from the defense. I like their odds right now though of winning 10 or more and making the postseason.

Nothing needs to be added to this. This schedule is our best chance yet to make it to the postseason. Of course, there will be a couple of WTF games where we seem to have our hats on backwards so I'm guessing 9 or 10 wins and hoping for a wild card.

Get those ketchup bottle pants ready for Monday Night! We're comin' back in 'em, Tony!!

TheMatrix31 04-14-2009 11:36 PM

Looking at this schedule, we NEED to go 10-6. I think 11-5 is possible, with losses to Tennessee, Arizona, Indy, Indy, and NE.

Mike 04-15-2009 08:23 AM

The schedule seems to set-up nice for our best season ever. I like the fact that we don't have a three game road trip like we did last year. Bye seems to be at a great time to freshen up the legs for the stretch drive.

Joshua 04-15-2009 08:49 AM

Agree with most of the comments. Before the schedule came out, I wanted 2 things, a September schedule that gives us a chance to build some momentum and confidence and a good bye week. By all accounts, we got both. No complaints.

jppaul 04-15-2009 11:12 AM

I wonder if this kind of schedule gives rise to the imperative of reaching the playoffs. If so does failure to do so, mean that Kubiak is gone?

So all things considered is Kubiak on the hot seat?

nero THE zero 04-15-2009 02:45 PM

Way too much respect for Arizona, IMO. Even some of the staunchest homers are marking them down as a definite L.

Since the '01 SB:
2001 NY Giants (7-9)
2002 St. Louis Rams (7-9)
2003 Oakland Raiders (4-12)
2004 Carolina Panthers (7-9)
2005 Philadelphia Eagles (6-10)
2006 Seattle Seahawks (9-7)
2007 Chicago Bears (7-9)
2008 NE Patriots (11-5)

Plus, it's not like the Cardinals were some juggernaut last season. They won 9 games and barely made it into the playoffs. They simply got on a hot streak in the playoffs and got lucky for a few games. Now, Edge is a year older, Warner's a year older, Boldin wants out, and the defense is switching scheme and coaches.

Way overrated, IMO.

I agree. I certainly wouldn't write the game off as a loss. Frankly, I wouldn't write any of them off as a loss anymore. However, it's a tough matchup for us because of their great passing game, a defense that creates turnovers, and because they are a good home team.
