We already have this in another thread. Thanks for the addition.

No Problem. Didn't see it. Kind of a departure from the usual choices.

Sorry, I found it buried in the original DraftTek Mock. I still believe it is justified to have it's own thread. It is the first
Consensus Draft I have seen so far. BTW, I like Moreno at #15 myself. He is built for the ZBS system (quicker than fast, good vision, a good one cut an upfield runner) the Texans currently use. IMO it will add to our 4th qtr defense to have a big back who can help control the ball and protect our leads.

Here's what I got from the new board.

15. LB Clay Matthews USC
46. DE Lawrence Sidbury Richmond
77. RB Rashad Jennings Liberty
112. FS Chris Clemons Clemson
122. LB Scott McKillop Pittsburgh
152. FS C.J. Spillman Marshall
188. RB Javarris Williams Tenn State
223. CB Don Carey Norfolk State

Ouch. At least I got a pass rusher and a couple of bruising RBs. I really wasn't looking to get 2 FSs, but at least they are interchangeable.

I could live with it though.

Matthews, Sidbury, and Jennings with our first three picks would make me very happy. I would to like to have one of the top centers from this draft, but there's a couple of safety prospects that might work out.

machoneil 04-07-2009 03:28 PM

15. CB Alphonso Smith Wake Forest
46. OC Eric Wood Louisville
77. RB Rashad Jennings Liberty
112. S Michael Hamlin Clemson
122. KR Brandon Tate North Carolina
152. DT Vance Walker Georgia Tech
188. OG Ramon Foster Tennessee
223. LB Victor Butler Oregon St

Anyone think Matthew Stafford is going to fall all the way to the Jets at 17? Anyone?

Ummmm.....no. Somebody will trade up to 11 to get him.

Not me. You'd have to go all the way back to the 2000 draft to find a year when the first QB selected waited around that long (Chad Pennington, 18th overall), assuming you think Stafford would still be the first QB selected, of course (I realize Sanchez is picked higher in this composite mock).

I think there's bound to be a team willing to move up for a QB if Stafford and Sanchez start slipping out of the top ten picks.

If you want a more plausible draft daydream, start thinking about the pandemonium that would ensue should the Lions let time expire on the first overall pick. Now THAT'S something to think about. :p

Should the Rams run up to the podium after time expired, would their draft pick get #1 guaranteed money or #2?

You're assuming they would run. What team would rush into that mess AND have to negotiate with that player's agent who will no doubt want #1 guaranteed money?

This is the kind of scenario that was unfathomable ten years ago that while still far-fetched has some economic reasoning to make the NFL offseason glitz event turn into a mockery. The rookie cap in the new CBA needs to address the bonus structure, and some better clarity on the draft clock rules is probably needed here, too.

If I had to guess, in answering your question, the Lions would probably still owe #1 money to their pick and the Rams would owe #2 to theirs, but this is kinda unchartered territory here (Vikings and Kevin Williams obviously come to mind), especially at the top of the draft.

The agent for #2 , wait #1, no I mean...the guy the Rams picked would absolutely DEMAND #1 money. Remember how crazy things got when the Manning/Cutler thing went down. I think this would be MUCH worse.

I actually kinda hope this happens....you could end up several teams letting their clock run out and no picks made. Someone would flinch eventually, and once that happened the other teams would have rugby style scrum to get their picks in.

If you mean Manning/Rivers, then yes. Manning wanted # 1 money since he was picked there and Rivers' agent thought his client was going to the team with the #1 pick, so he was worth the same.

Yes I meant Manning/Rivers. My bad

mussop 04-08-2009 09:59 PM

My cherry pick!

1.) Donald Brown
2.) Darius Butler
3.) Tyrone McKenzie
4.) Jarett Dillard
4.) A.Q. Shipley
5.) Vance Walker
6.) Lydon Murtha
7.) Roy Miller

Man, that 2nd round is filled with talent and guys that are perfect for us! We've gotta trade down!!

Mack
Wood
Robiskie
Ayers
Sintim
A. Smith
D. Butler
S.Smith
Delmas
Beckwith
Kruger
P.Chung
LEnglish
A. Brown...

it's pretty ridiculous all the talent there!

dalemurphy 04-09-2009 09:10 AM

Okay, here's one with 2 trades... both of them we are getting unfavorable points and they are deals the two teams are very likely to have interest in based on the Drafttek board and the team's situation:

Trade #1: 15 to phillie for 28 and 53 (has the 2 first rounders and may want to jump up and grab an OT or RB)
Trade #2: 28 and 5th in 2010 to NE for 34 and 89 (NE is looking to trade some picks for next year and trade up)

34. Clint Sintim (competition at SLB and ability to play DE on pass downs)
46. Darius Butler (gifted CB)
53. Louis Delmas (bested pure FS in the draft)
77. Rashod Jennings (talented, bigger back)
89. Antoine Caldwell (athletic C/G can play ZBS but more of a mauler than Myers)
112. David Bruton (athletic SS)
122. Terrence Taylor (run-stuffing DT that can push or replace Okam)
152. Javaris Williams (small college RB with a lot of production... powerful, good blocker, explosive)
188. Gronkowski (Powerful TE that is a very good blocker but has some hands also)
7th. P.J.Hill (Power RB that has too much upside not to grab this late)

Any scenario where we trade down should mean we take at least 2 RBs, maybe 3 out of this draft. Because there is room for 2, maybe even three RBs to actually make the team. Maybe I'm crazy but I would absolutely love this draft!

We already have the Vikings as precedent. The agent will demand to be slotted as the player selected in the xth draft position while the team will argue that the player was actually the yth player selected and should be slotted accordingly. All that adds up to a protracted holdout and ill will from the very beginning of the player's time with the team.

It would be comedy gold, however, if the first hour of the draft had passed by and no players were selected because nobody wanted to pay for the overall #1 pick. Berman would freak, not to mention all the Giants/Jets fans in attendance.

Okay, I went with this idea and saw the 10 Apr Update. Using my board, this is what I got....

34. DE Connor Barwin Cincinnatti 6' 4" 256 4.59
The steal of the draft. I have him right behind Matthews, so I was happy to see him still there. I could see him as a Justin Tuck type in a few years, but definitely worth the project if he's only a 3rd down Specialist. I think he could play the SAM too.

46. FS William Moore Missouri 6' 1" 226 4.50
I'm betting the bank that he tried to play hurt his senior year and that's why his production fell off. At worst, he's a Merriweather or Phillips type S.

53. SS Chip Vaughn Wake Forest 6' 1 3/8" 221 4.45
Holy MOG. They have him available later in the draft, but I'd be happy to have him and Moore roaming the middle.

77. CB Asher Allen Georgia 5' 10" 194 4.48
I think I could go home now and be happy with the defense for years to come.

89. RB Rashad Jennings Liberty 6' 1" 231 4.58
Oh yea, I might as well get my big fella for short yardage. He's no Brandon Jacobs, but at #89, I don't see how the draft could get much better.

112. LB Scott McKillop Pittsburgh 6' 1" 243 4.72
Well, DeMeco I love you man, but you got to get into camp. I have a thumper who is going to stop the run in the LB corps now.

122. OC A.Q. Shipley Penn St 6' 1" 304 5.19
No Unger, Mack, or Wood. Oh well, I have a true OC who's better than Studdard.

152. RB Javarris Williams Tenn State 5' 9 1/2" 223 4.51
It's always nice to have a little insurance in case the RBs get hurt. All Kubiak has to do is have a little conversation with his OC's dad to find that out.

188. WR Demetrius Byrd LSU 6' 0" 199 4.35
Since I have Asher returning Kicks, Jacoby Jones can find work elsewhere. Here's a big WR we can develop that knows how to block in the running game. Did Lance Z have him on his Texans draft board?

223. DT Myron Pryor Kentucky 6' 0 1/4" 319 5.08
Well, I didn't get Roy Miller, but I'm ok with taking Pryor here.
