Are these vists at the combine or scheduled personal vists?

The post only said they had been contacted by the Texans. Some of these are going to be smoke screens, and some might be legit interest on the Texans part.

I do not subscribe to Scout's Inc, so someone here who does might be able to answer popanot's question better. Help please?

popanot 03-15-2009 01:05 PM

I doubt this list is all inclusive, but nonetheless, I'm surprised Cushing isn't on it. Smoke screen or no interest??? Hmmm....

nunusguy 03-15-2009 01:29 PM

Good stuff PK ! But it leaves a lot to the imagination, but that 's part of the fun I guess, trying to speculate what this might mean ? For example, quckly browsing the list I count more WRs than any other position ? I dunno what that's suppose to mean since I tend to think of it as our strongest position on either side of the ball ?
Kinda along these same lines, I've yet to see the Texans mentioned as being present at any of the Pro-Days ?

WR/PR could mean Jacoby Jones is on a short rope.

This regime of Smith and Kubiak play it much closer to the vest than Charlie ever did.

Charlie loved to leak stuff to McClain and Little Dickie off the record. LD now has to work for a story and instead chooses to preach his brand of sanctimonious crapola.

I thought that when we met David Anderson's contract. I would think they are seriously investigating anybody else's interest in JJ. Draft Day Trade........?

kravix 03-15-2009 07:50 PM

4CB and 6 WR?

I think that Kubiak and Smith use the combine interviews as much as a smoke screen as using it to get more of a personal understnading of guys that will be depth/ST players and players with possible personality conflicts.

Scouts Inc. is espn's scouting division. Scout.com is someone else, sorry no help here

On that list, I see:

William Moore (S, Mizzou): Low first high second round safety, maybe a target with the 2nd pick, but I don't think first.
Nic Harris (S/LB, Oklahoma): Weakside LB, maybe a target in the later rounds, 5?
Rashad Johnson (S, Alabama): 2nd round safety
Chip Vaughn (S, Wake Forest): 4th rounder safety?
Malcolm Jenkins (CB, Ohio State): 1st round CB maybe a safety for us
Vontae Davis (CB, Illinois): 1st round CB, again maybe being looked at as a safety, or he could be looked at as a corner, maybe more so than Jenkins
Keenan Lewis (CB, Oregon State):Corner depth possible safety transition player, 5th round
Coye Francies (CB, San Jose States): Corner Depth, maybe 4th rounder
Robert Ayers (DE, Tennessee): Late first, or second round DE
Connor Barwin (DE/OLB/TE, Cincinnati): 2nd round versatility prospect
Everette Brown (DE, Florida State): First round DE
Cody Brown (DE, Connecticut): Second round DE, OLB, pass rush specalist
Gerald McGrath (LB, Southern Miss): MLB or WLB 3rd rounder
Clay Matthews (LB, USC): First round OLB with pass rush skills
Larry English (LB/DE UNI): Late first or second round pass rush specalist or OLB
Jason Watkins (OL, Florida): 5th or 6th round swing tackle
Jaimie Thomas (OL, Maryland): 7th round guard
Quan Cosby (WR, Texas): 4th round WR/KR
Louis Murphy (WR, Florida): 3rd round WR
Juaquin Iglesias (WR, Oklahoma): 3rd round WR
Derrick Williams (WR, Penn State): 2nd or 3rd round WR
Jeremy Maclin (WR, Mizzou): 1st round WR
Jared Cook (TE, South Carolina): 2nd round TE

Also rumored to have visited the Texans at the Combine where
Demetrius Byrd, WR, LSU
Andre Brown, RB, NC State

Just happy to see so many of My Guys on the list. Probably just smoke screens.

I don't know, those are all interesting. Even Jared Cook could be picked if we don't keep OD. Maclin if he falls to 15, which I doubt, would be an exceptional value.

kRocket 03-16-2009 04:58 PM

Interesting that the only two interior OL players are very late round choices and NO DT's are present on the list! That would indicate Gibbs is happy with what we have or there is a real defensive need, but they like Okam, Robinson, and Okoye as is. Curious!

I think even if he falls the Texans need to just say no to fast wrs that can burn but just aren't that good at actually catching the ball. They already have one of them on the team.

And he can only do that when he isnt doing the electric slide.

Unless I'm mistaken, teams (outside of their division or conference) sometimes get into small groups or pairs and pool interview notes in part because it is too hard to get to everyone. As such, reading too much into these reports of visits is a bit of a fool's errand imo. For all we know, the Texans are talking to a bunch of WRs for the Cowboys or Bucs while taking info from the same on LBs and safeties.

Anyone remember that story of when the Broncos drafted Cutler? (Put recent news aside for a moment.) Cutler never once talked to the team before the draft... and that was their first round pick at quarterback.

Are you talking about JMac or DHB? Jeremy Maclin is pretty good at actually catching the ball.

That would be Maclin another JJ waiting to happen in my humble opinion.

popanot 03-18-2009 05:33 AM

I'd rather have Percy Harvin over Maclin. Harvin can do everything Maclin can do, but is big enough and has the muscle mass to fill in at RB in a pinch. Of course, you wouldn't want to play him there for an extended period, but he could do it if need be. You can't do that with Maclin. I'd use Harvin much the same way the Aint's use Bush. I see a lot of Reggie Bush/Steve Smith in Harvin, whereas, I see a lot of Desmond Howard/Eric Metcalf in Maclin. Not sure why that is, but I do.
