Gruden Gone

I've always thought he was overrated. Since the Super Bowl win his record seems a bit pedestrian. I'm not surprised he was let go.

2002: Bucs, 15-4*
2003: Bucs, 7-9
2004: Bucs, 5-11
2005: Bucs, 11-6
2006: Bucs, 4-12
2007: Bucs, 9-8
2008: Bucs, 9-7

*Won Super Bowl

The timing is shocking to me. If they were unhappy, I would have expected this a couple of weeks ago. Don't know for certain but it makes me wonder if some unexpected firing (such as Shanahan) made them believe they could find something better out there.

I doubt Gruden stays unemployed very long.

From reading the Tampa online news, it seems the Glazers and team executives and Chucky were in meeting and thing just went from there. The Glazers didn't like the mediocrity, the lack of a plan for building the future and Chucky chasing aging quarterbacks.

Who knows for sure but I guess it was an end of season meeting when a lightbulb may have gone off. Then Chucky was fired. It doesn't sound like much deliberation was done before making the move.

Sounds like Gruden wasn't reallly getting along with players and their new coach is emphasing relating to players.

Except they promoted the neophyte Raheem Morris.

True but Morris was being rumored for other coaching vacancies around the NFL and perhaps the ownership decided they'd rather hang onto Morris than hang onto Gruden. Of course, if Tampa's defense was all that terrific, why did they need to fire Gruden?
