Watson to Miami?

#Texans are working toward a potential deal that would send Deshaun Watson to the Miami Dolphins that could get done this week. If not this week they still hope they can get it done before the Nov 2 trade deadline.

My un-connected opinion/guess is that Miami gives up:
  • The 2022 SF 1st rounder they own this year
  • A conditional 2023 1st rounder that could drop based on the outcome of the cases and how much Watson can play.
  • Tua
  • Xavian Howard
  • Sampling of 2nds/3rds

EDIT - I'm leaving this up but it sounds like it was a pipe dream. Not getting the feeling we will like the return...

Just heard from my friend.

He thinks the Texans should have waited and this is going to be a 3 team deal.

bikerack 10-20-2021 03:18 PM

Sounds like Tua is going to be spun to the 3rd team...DEN and SEA come to mind...

I heard Washington.

Who would've guessed that a bidding war for Tua would be involved in a Watson deal...?

Now I’m hearing that this is all bs. Does your guy still say it’s on?

bikerack 10-20-2021 05:28 PM

Haven't heard from him since I posted the above...but at the time, he was legitimately upset that it was going down (and I am assuming that means the return would not be what we all hope for). So that tells me it was at least "on" at the time.

If it isn't anymore, I have not heard...

Miami is indeed working to offload Tua to add to the resources Houston is requiring.

The current expectation is that the deal will be completed by Monday, Tuesday at the latest.

bikerack 10-21-2021 02:30 PM

Another team is trying to get involved, but Dw4 had previously said no to going there.

OK, so that's Monday, Tuesday of which week, which month, and which year ?

bikerack 10-21-2021 07:53 PM

Mon/Tues of next week.

IMO, with games starting this week or about to start, no one is going to make a trade this deep into the week.

I'll be watching to see if Tua is a healthy scratch this week.

I got bored so I decided to look up the Miami draft capital for the next 2 drafts (you cannot include 2024 picks until after the start of the next league year in March).

Also, this list obviously doesn't include future potential comp picks...

2022:
(1) 1st round pick (via SF)
(1) 2nd round pick (their own)
(2) 4th round picks (their own and via PIT)
(1) 5th round pick (their own)
(1) 7th round pick (via HOU)

2023:
(2) 1st round picks (their own and via SF)
(1) 2nd round pick (their own)
(1) 3rd round pick (their own)
(1) 4th round pick (their own)
(1) 5th round pick (their own)
(2) 6th round picks (their own and via CHI)
(1) 7th round pick (their own)

With reports that the Panthers are really trying to enter the sweepstakes, I took a look at their draft capital.

Its not good.

They only have their 1st, someone else's 4th and their own 5th in the upcoming draft.

They have all their picks except their 6th in the '23 draft.

They would really need to include a lot of young talent to make up the difference versus what Miami can offer with just picks.

bikerack 10-25-2021 01:53 PM

This changes things...it appears the Rams just traded '24 picks, which were thought to be untradeable until after the start of the new league year in March '22.

Received confirmation from trusted source. Teams can trade 3 years of draft capital now. 4 years on draft night.

Hearing from my friend that Caserio is starting to play hardball and threatening to hold off until the end of the season.

My friend is not sure if this is a bluff (against Watson or another team) or what...

Keith 10-26-2021 03:50 PM

The temperature around the league seems to be that it's the Texans doing whatever they can to drum up a market. I am not sure I understand why the Texans are pushing urgency as the draft picks available in return can perhaps be greater after the season and before the 2022 draft.

That is, unless, the Texans are increasingly pessimistic about Watson's case? Then I could see them backing off their demands before the trade deadline to expedite an agreement.

chuck 10-26-2021 07:28 PM

I’ll leave this here. With any luck the league will go full WFT on the Texans. It shouldn’t take too much digging through this mouthbreather’s emails to establish that he’s a racist shitstain unfit to own a team.

As has been reported everywhere (and confirmed to me by my friend), the only thing standing in the way of a trade is Watson settling his cases with NDAs (no biggie...)
