J.J. Watt Released

Watt requested his release, and the Texans granted it. I thought he might have brought in a mid-round draft pick, but I guess not.

Watt's video message: https://twitter.com/JJWatt/status/1360239504376922126

In the video, Watt was gracious to the city and Texans fans, but couldn't let go all the booing he heard from his draft day, which I found hilarious.

Here's our 2011 round 1 draft thread (skipped to page 3) for some of our instant reactions to the pick: http://www.inthebullseye.com/forums/...?t=1261&page=3

Pretty fun to read through that thread. What a bunch of yahoos.

Since I was uncharacteristically reticent to share my opinion that draft day, I am happy to remind everyone that I WAS STRONGLY IN FAVOR OF DRAFTING JJ WATT AND CLEARLY FORESAW HIS GREATNESS.

Thank you.

Oh yeah, sweet move just letting him go, the single greatest player in team history. I guess when you're as stacked as the Texans up and down the roster a mid level draft pick is pretty meaningless, really.

I'm still laughing that since they promoted the youth pastor to Head of Everything they quickly realized they needed to hire another youth pastor, which of course they did. Whew. I was worried there for a minute that the players might not receive their due in the way of ministering. Good thing we can count on Cal to keep his eye on the ball.

JJ Watt just signed a two year deal, 23 M guaranteed, with the Cardinals.

It's strange he got almost as much money as we owed him, there were tons of teams interested, but nobody offered us a draft pick in trade. I hope we didn't turn down a low round pick so we could claim we didn't trade him.
