You Guessed It: Ahman Green is Hurt

Quote:

(on if he thinks he needs to bring in more backs) “My concern right now is (RB) Ahman’s (Green) ankle. So, yeah, if it’s going to be a problem then, you know, (RB) Darius (Walker) is going to be our first option. To get ready to go, you cannot play in this league with two backs or operate with two halfbacks going into a game. So, that’s a big concern as we evaluate Ahman’s ankle right now. So, with Darius, you can always bring Darius up. The next option is you got to go out there and find somebody.”

(on when RB Ahman Green’s ankle was injured) “It happened in the first half. He (RB Ahman Green) played throughout the game, and then struggled with it today. So, he’s getting it checked out.”

Soooooo... the Texans are going to be working out some RBs tomorrow. Cedric Benson tells the Chicago Tribune that he'll be one of them, then Gary Kubiak said on the radio this afternoon that Ced is not one of them.

This is like the worst he said-oh no he didn't! argument I have ever heard.

Wow, what a shocker! I for one would love to see them give Benson a try.

I used to be adamantly against bringing Benson in. But, I think his style compliments Slaton well; I think they could be a real nice combo.

I don't understand the bickering between the two parties though. Why would Benson lie about being brought in, and why would the Texans lie about bringing him in? And this isn't the first time this has happened with Benson, as well as Tatum Bell. I wonder if there's some sort of disconnect between what Smith/Kubiak are trying to do, and what McNair will sign off on.

sounds like miscommunication somewhere in the ranks for sure

i don't think there is much getting around the fact that we need to set aside our character requirements for a minute to give benson a look-see. incentives can be made, characters can be toned down if willing. hell, get him in here before they start getting desperate and give the dayne-train a call.

Ced Benson = Roy Dayne. Ced was terrible in Chicago, and looked slow. Puffing weed and boozing on the boat probably does not keep you in football shape. Ced and Jameel Cook would make an interesting backfield tandem.

I would rather see a guy who actually looked like he could be productive like Kenton Keith.

My guess is in hopes of driving up interest with other teams. I don't know who else is in the market for a RB right now, but I'm sure there are a few teams who could use an extra set of legs right now. If I'm an agent and I have a team I think is interested I want it to be public knowledge that he has other teams who might scoop him up first. Not that anyone is going to be giving out big contracts right now, but if he wants to keep playing football he needs to be on the filed this year somewhere.

hahaha...i'd like to see a pic of your 6-pack next to a pick of his 6-pack. must be the weed and booze!! hahahaha the new steriod: mary j. hooch....i'll just bet that his form didn't sprout out of itself, much to the contrary of say...ron dayne, who's form is most likely drawing in pluto. benson has probably been scared straight enough to not act out, if not i'm sure contract incentives would finish the job.

did keith get cut? i'd rather have a look at him over any RB in this thread. we know what we have in walker.

This is like the worst he said-oh no he didn't! argument I have ever heard.

I watched Kubiak's press conference online yesterday. As you could understand, he was not in a great mood. Reporters pressed him for names of RB's that would be working out and he said "I have been kind of busy around here last night and today, I don't know who we are bringing in, but he doubted it would be Alexander or bensen, but said he would have to ask Rick, who he would be meeting with later."

Mike 09-09-2008 10:09 AM

Would be kind of nice for the local fishwrap to sniff out (i.e. talk to sources, be a journalist) and find out who is coming in. It's not like we are looking for the 53rd man on the roster, Ahman's situation is kind of a bid deal.

Instead, the chronicle writers are probably at a buffet, sniffing some egg rolls or Kung pao chicken.

coloradodude 09-09-2008 12:17 PM

The fact that Benson isn't even on a team speaks volumes about someone many thought would be the next shades of Earl.

Somebody mentioned Benson = Dayne. Yeah, if you get rid of Dayne's work ethic, commitment to team, and enthusiasm for the game. I saw David Carr run farther and faster than any of Benson's runs while at Chicargo.

Benson's out of football for a reason and he's earned it.

KJ3 09-09-2008 12:52 PM

There's also a reason why we are scraping the crap off the underside of the RB boat. Look I don't want to have this dude on the team anymore than anybody else, including apparently our front office, but when our single requirement to sign a RB is "can you be here?" then we have to go over all options. Benson provides interest in at least a workout, or so I thought.

As for Keith, apparently he's of low character as well. He's apparently trying to get back into the CFL too...

NBT 09-09-2008 12:54 PM

Cut Ahman Green NOW! If we have to go with Taylor, Slaton, and Walker so be it, at least they are not made of fine china easily broken, like Green and Brown. While we're at it give Brown an injury settlement and get rid of him too. We need to find out who wants to play for this team.

I don't think the character issues are even as big for Benson as the lack of being an starting-caliber NFL running back issue. The character issues just compound things.

KJ3 09-10-2008 07:43 AM

well, the next time someone goes down to the RB store pick us up another earl.

in case that doesn't exist, we should check out all the options we have. "starting caliber" at this point is something we're not going to get. good RB's have jobs right now.

True. Then again, I don't think Benson's 1/2 the back of someone we have on our practice squad.
