Prediction for the Texans/Steelers Game

color me optimistic, but i guess if i can't be excited this time of year I can't ever be excited

texans win 27-24, with kris brown fg with less than a minute on the clock

Nconroe 09-03-2008 03:35 PM

Hey, if we can't drink the coolaid this week, when can we drink it. I'll go Texans 38-31.

kravix 09-03-2008 04:05 PM

20-17 Texans!!!

KJ3 09-03-2008 04:27 PM

we play field position, we get pressure on big ben, we get our passing game going we can pull the upset opening weekend.

17 - The Texans of Houston
14 - The Flimsy Aluminumers of Poopsburgh, Shitsylvania

two weaknesses of theirs play directly into strengths of ours. their special teams and o'line are weak, our ST and D'line are strengths. if we can stop their running game (big if) they are in trouble.

ramp1028 09-03-2008 06:15 PM

21-10 Texans

You heard it here first. :D

HPF Bob 09-04-2008 01:56 AM

FWIW, we get Gus Johnson on the call. We seem to play better when he get Gus or Ian Eagle doing our games.

But our rebuilt o-line is going to look silly having to face Blitzburgh right out of the gate. Parker is healthy again. 31-13 Steelers.

TheMatrix31 09-04-2008 07:06 AM

27-17 Steelers

nunusguy 09-04-2008 07:20 AM

Winning the season opener vs. the Steelers in their house ?
I love the Texans, but dream on if you think we've got a shot in this game:
Texans 13
Steelers 28

KJ3 09-04-2008 07:59 AM

please nunu, we have a shot...don't beat us down like that.

have some kool-aid! :D

Ask me about our own home-opener a week from Sunday in Reliant vs. the Ravens, and I'll tell you something a lot more optimistic.
It goes without saying I hope we win in Pittsburg, but since its their season opener up there, I dunno how we even got a chance to sneak up on them ?

That's exactly the mentality I'm hoping the Steelers have on Sunday.

The Steelers have an impressive winning streak in openers, having won in Week 1 in each of the last five seasons and having won their home opener in six of the last seven... but doesn't that sound familiar to us by now?

Maybe the Texans have them right where they want them...? One can hope at least.

The Steelers had a nice defense last year, but it faltered down the stretch. Might be interesting to keep an eye on Kris Brown if it comes down to field goals. In his last season as a Steeler, he only hit 58% of his field goals at home (though he was perfect going back to Pittsburgh in 2002).

I do think that the Texans will sneak up on some people. At least I'm hoping.

ANY

GIVEN

SUNDAY

my friend. we have a shot...sure we the underdog, but it'll still be a game. probably a good one too...

Our best hope is that their o-line is rebuilt after losing Faneca and a couple of others which will mean that Mario and Okoye can dominate up front. If that doesn't happen, I don't think Houston is apt to win any other part of the game unless they get some breaks and some turnovers.

Game Tidbits

I am hoping for a close one (in our favor of course), as I am making the trek up to Pitt this weekend. I saw the below points on Fox Sports regarding the match up I thought I would share:

Texans (0-0) at Steelers (0-0)

The Texans won three of their last four games last season and finished 2007 with the best record in team history at 8-8. Houston has played Pittsburgh twice all-time, splitting the two games with the Steelers.
Pittsburgh's opponents this season had a combined .598 win percentage in 2007. Based on last season's records, the Steelers will play the toughest schedule in the league this season.
Ben Roethlisberger had 32 touchdown passes in 2007 — most in Steelers' franchise history. The previous record was held by Terry Bradshaw who had 28 in 1978.
After starting 61 of the Texans' 64 games from 2003 to 2006, Andre Johnson was able to start just nine of 16 contests in 2007 due to a knee injury. Despite the injury problems, Johnson averaged 94.6 yards per game last season — highest among all players with at least 50 catches.
Houston's players dropped just 15 total passes in 2007 — fewest among all NFL squads.
The Steelers led the NFL in time of possession last season, averaging 33:18 per game.
The Texans defeated the Chiefs, 20-3, in their first game of 2007 and are now 3-3 all-time in season-openers.
Pittsburgh has won five straight season-openers — the longest active streak of any team in football.

BigBull 09-04-2008 10:16 PM

Texans 38
Tin-men 17
I have a feeling that the Steelers offense is way overrated.

jppaul 09-04-2008 10:29 PM

I am thinking Texans 27 Steelers 17.

In the dubiously lamentable absence of Dr. Ron "Write this down...".

Johnson 1 TD 106 yds.
Walters 78 yds.

Slaton gets 65 on the grounds with a touchdown
Green gets 45

Davis 1 kick return for a td

Brown two field goals.

Dave 09-05-2008 01:20 PM

Steeler 34
Texans 23

ESPN NFL Experts picks - Week 1

Well, one of these guys (Fleming) is picking the Texans. Unfortunately, he was the only guy that picked wrong in last night's game....lol
