Hard Knocks Possibility

Seems Mr. McNair mentioned its a possibility.

http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans...ks/#31564101=0

I'd like to see it personally.

So would I

The league chooses who it won't be and then HBO decides which train wreck they want to cover. I won't be watching and I can't imagine McNair would be eager to showcase his team this way. He'll say what the league wants him to say but, deep down, I doubt he wants the sideshow.

Nconroe 03-25-2015 01:27 PM

I guess my opinion of Texans team, coaches, players is they are fairly well organized and not a train wreck as perhaps a few other hard knocks shows have been.

It could be opportunity for some good publicity.

I will watch if it is Texans.

I'll watch it regardless of who it is. I find it fairly entertaining.

But, I think it would be cool to see some behind the scenes stuff from the hometown squad.

B'OB probably doesn't have the same mindset as I......

chuck 03-25-2015 02:20 PM

It seems like it would be a massive distraction and I hope the Texans don't do it.

Keith 05-22-2015 10:10 AM

The Texans are one of three teams still being considered and are considered favorites. Bills and Redskins are the other two.

Said earlier that the preseason game with the Saints has the Katrina angle to it... made for a tv show like Hard Knocks.

Seems the Bills and Redskins want out, so the Texans may be the pick this season.

Redskins:

A team source said the Redskins did not want to appear on the show – a stance they have long taken – and were not one of the finalists.
Bills:

Bills source confirms that the team is still not interested in doing Hard Knocks this summer.
I wonder how many teams would beg out of this if there were some legit cash compensation for the hassle? Would think cash-poor teams like the Bills and attention-loving teams like the Redskins would whore themselves out if that were the case.

Arky 05-23-2015 05:06 AM

Yep, been hearing this on the radio (Texans are the favorites).

I don't think the Texans want it but if the NFL points the bony finger in their direction, they have to accept. Gotta say if they get it, I'll be glued to the tube for every episode....

Me too, love to watch more on Texans.

Except, I don't want to see when they cut players. Just show me who made it.

I think it would become The J.J. Watt Show. He's starting to become something of an attention whore. We can learn just how foul-mouthed Bill O'Brien is and we will find out stuff the rest of us would really rather not know like which players like to pee in the shower, which one pukes before his first pre-season game, which players talk smack incessantly to hide an inner insecurity and how much hazing goes on to rookies.

Like I've said again and again, this is bullshit. I suspect though that you would thrill to see it.

No, Chuck. Even when I was a cable employee and got HBO for free, I didn't watch Hard Knocks. Why the NFL even allows such a show is beyond my comprehension.

This dovetails into another thread I've been following about Michael Sam. The football locker room is not a bastion of political correctness, nor should it be, but once you let a camera crew and live microphones into that place and let the comments be judged by people who have no idea what it's like to be a football player at that level and you'll create all sorts of havoc.

I'd rather not know the details of what gets said there.

Looks like Texans selected for Hard Knocks.

On this show being disruptive to team, Battle Red blog had this to dispel that myth: OK...so by my count, here are the numbers:

- 9 Seasons of Hard Knocks.

- 5 teams were in the playoffs the season prior to the show. Of these, 3 made the playoffs again the next year.

- 4 teams were not in the playoffs the season prior to the show. Of these, 3 missed the playoffs again the next year.

So as far as playoffs go, 66% did the same thing the year after the show as they did the year before. 22% dropped out of the playoffs and 11% improved and made the cut.

Per NFL.com, at least 4 new teams have made the playoffs every year since 1990, which means 4 teams drop out of the playoffs every year. That means 66% of the teams each year that make the playoffs are likely to return to the playoffs the following year, which happens to be the exact amount of Hard Knocks teams that have done the same. 20% of teams that do not make the playoffs each year will make it compared to 11% for Hard Knocks. Coincidentally, if the Texans are on Hard Knocks this year and make the playoffs, that will bring the Hard Knocks percentage exactly on par with the NFL percentage of teams rising into the playoffs.

Overall, based on just that bit of info, it looks like Hard Knocks is a complete wash in regards to how it affects a team's success.

Similiar to my intrigue with movies like Draft Day and Any Given Sunday, I'm kinda happy the Texans were picked. Behind the scenes stuff is interesting to me, and must be to a lot of folks as the show has been on for ~10 years now.

Don't see that it would greatly impact anything. We're either going to be mediocre or decent. Having camera's at our practices for 6 weeks isn't going to change that, and will give us a look that we'd never get inside the HQ.

Exactly. Perhaps this will give insight into all the incorrect/correct speculations about how it actually goes down behind the scenes with the Texans.....

Looks like Texans traveling to Virginia for 3 days practice with Washington Redskins during preseason, not attached to a preseason game. Should be good. Dates not exactly set yet.

Eight things to watch on this season's 'Hard Knocks'

It's official: The 10th season of Hard Knocks will focus on the Houston Texans. One of the joys of this great show is its ability to teach us new things about players and coaches we've only known from highlights and fantasy scores. There are no shortage of compelling storylines to follow with the Texans. Here's what we'll be watching for.

1. Up close with J.J.: We're witnessing something special with J.J. Watt, who had a very strong case last season to be the league's MVP in addition to his no-doubter DPOY honors. Watt is in that next level of professional athletes -- think Tyson in his prime, or Jordan, LeBron, Tiger -- where he can sometimes look like a man playing against boys (see Watt's Hard Knocks cameo last year in a 1-on-1 practice session against poor Jake Matthews). Point being, these types of athletes don't come around often and Knocks offers an ideal platform.

2. The Tao of Arian: Texans running back Arian Foster is one of the NFL's great thinkers. And while he's toned down the lovably ponderous nature of his Twitter feed -- these days he's more outwardly passionate about the New York Rangers than science and world peace -- Foster remains the type of compelling figure that makes him a perfect fit for the Hard Knocks model.

3. QB camp battle:
It's been awhile since Hard Knocks has been able to sink its teeth into a legit quarterback competition. Ryan Tannehill won a rigged Dolphins competition back in 2012 if you want to count that, but the last true battle came way back in 2007, when Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle battled in Kansas City (yes, we got chills, too). Ryan Mallett vs. Brian Hoyer brings the goods this season -- it feels like a 50/50 battle. I'm also curious to learn more about Hoyer, whose hard-working underdog rep earned him the nickname "Cleveland Springsteen" during his Browns tenure. Full disclosure: I'm the only person who called him that.

4. Clowney's return: Jadeveon Clowney was hyped as the next L.T. before two knee surgeries turned his rookie season and career upside-down. Hard Knocks should give us more access to Clowney during his ongoing recovery from that serious microfracture procedure. Access is good! We don't get much of that anymore!

5. The Bill O'Brien Show: It's only natural that Hard Knocks acts as something of a star vehicle for the head coach. Last season, Mike Smith underwhelmed as a Tevas-wearing low-talker whose staid nature stood in stark contrast to the build-a-bully makeover the coaching staff tried to sell to the team. O'Brien might have a more entertaining personality for cameras, and we're curious to see how a modern-day head coach juggles his day-to-day responsibilities with being a full-time offensive coordinator. Also, there's that chin. That chin was born for the spotlight.
More here.
