Official Texans @ Jaguars Game Thread, 12/5/2013

Gameday is tomorrow this week as the 2-10 Texans travel to Jacksonville to take on the 3-9 Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. The Texans are coming off a 34-31 home loss to the New England Patriots and the Jaguars are coming off a 32-28 road victory over the Cleveland Browns.

TV = NFLN, Thursday, 7:25 pm CST

Announcers = Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock

The line = Texans by 3

nunusguy 12-04-2013 07:39 AM

Texans with 10 consecutive losses while Jacksonville has won their last 2 and 3 of their last 4 and they get the game at home on a really short week
where the road team is at even more of a disadvantage and the Texans are still favored by a FG ? Must be that performace by our practice squad QB taking HOFer Brady all the way to the wire, huh ?

The line has nothing to do with predictions and everything to do with what Vegas needs to do to get relatively equal money bet on each team.

Some folks aren't fast learners, are they?

Well, since we can't win on Sundays, why not Thursday?

Gimme a break Barrett, just like every year I'm heading out to Vegas next month and will bet on the POs as usual. And the spreads do to a great extent reflect the prediction on the game, but of course they also handicap it to a degree to induce maximum revenues for the book. I know how the system works.
BTW, we are staying at Mandalay Bay, any pros or cons on that location ?

I'm hoping for an entertaining loss.

Pat Kirwan made an interesting point on NFL radio yesterday. This upcoming game will tell us a lot about Case. He is coming off a fairly decent performance against NE in which he had a decent running game and a defense that couldnt stop NE in the second half. Case will be seeing a team for the second time.

The Texans are 2-9-1 ATS (against the spread) this year. Since I'm a bit of a homer, I've been losing on the Texans all year at the not-real-money betting website I visit.

------------------------

I remember saying after the first five Texan losses that that was a long time to go without a W. I had no idea it would turn into 10 in a row.....

------------------------

There was some question before the New England game whether the Texans had quit as they had just been beaten by the Jags at home. After going toe-to-toe with the Patriots, apparently the betting confidence with the Texans is still good and despite what some say (Hi, Walter), I don't think they have (quit). This game is actually pretty important to a lot of people's future....

-----------------------

Still early but Walter shows 64% of the money coming in on the Texans. The line, to me, is encouraging money on Jax. The public sometimes outsmarts themselves... Sometimes the line is so weird, you wonder if the oddsmakers are messing with you. To what degree do you overthink it? But this one is easy for me - the homer in me is going with the Texans..

------------------------

The Jags are 4-8 ATS.

Glad we are getting the Philly game as they've got X-Texans DeMeco & Barwin which offers another option even if a vague alternative in cheering for a PO contender with the hapless Texans now entirely out of the post-season chase.

So you're saying there's a chance...

Quote:

Despite being 2-10 with 10 consecutive losses, the Texans have yet to be eliminated from the AFC’s playoff chase. ...

The Texans’ ridiculous hope for the playoffs: to have at least seven AFC teams finish tied at 6-10 — themselves, plus the Steelers, Ravens, Dolphins, Browns, Jets, Chargers and the winner of a Week 15 game between the Bills and Jaguars. Oakland, Tennessee and the loser of that Buffalo-Jacksonville game could finish 6-10 or 5-11 without propping up another wild-card contender’s record.

Should that happen, the Texans’ could secure the AFC’s second wild-card spot via a tremendously convoluted set of tiebreakers.

To keep their dream alive for another week, Houston needs to beat Jacksonville on Thursday night, then have these results occur on Sunday: Minnesota over Baltimore, New England over Cleveland, Oakland over the Jets, the Giants over San Diego and Pittsburgh over Miami.

Ya, that's the only early game. I wasn't enthused till I saw the other options: Minn @ Balt or Atl @ GB (that one might be OK...).

HPF Bob 12-05-2013 07:38 PM

They seem to be able to run on the Texans at will. Jaguars scored more points on their first drive than the Texans scored the entire game against them last time.

That's nothing new. They did that last time as well.

BigBull 12-05-2013 07:46 PM

To bad AJ slipped to that pass. It would have been a nice completion.

This Jacksonville field most be in terrible condition, because players are slipping all over the place. Or did the Texans bring the wrong shoes?
