Official 2012 NFL Draft Round 4-7 Thread

Yes, this thread will be more thrilling than mowing your lawn today.

I'm going to spend today on the road rather than stress out with draft picks. The Texans always go in directions I don't consider after the first round so there's no point waiting for guys to fall to us because the Texans aren't interested in those guys anyway.

I'll check back after I return home late afternoon.

Just to keep everyone on pins and needles and add to the excitement, maybe today's the day we get a king's ransom in a Jacoby Jones trade.

C Ben Jones Georgia

Warren 04-28-2012 11:20 AM

6-2, 304
4-year starter
Smart, scrappy, hard worker
Good fit for a zone scheme
"a poor man's Jeff Saturday"

Nconroe 04-28-2012 11:22 AM

Well, we needed depth behind Chris Meyers. Ben should be ok for fourth round.

nunusguy 04-28-2012 11:25 AM

With them drafting this center (and potential guard), maybe they are gonna play the big guy from Miami, OH @ RT ?

Warren 04-28-2012 11:27 AM

"Ben Jones is on the ground too much. He's a good player, but he's not as athletic as you would like. He got knocked around a lot at the Senior Bowl... He has short arms. He played overweight because the new strength coach wanted him bigger. His ideal weight, where he could bend, is around 300. I thought he was a late-rounder personally."

Sounds like what we said about Myers......

machoneil 04-28-2012 12:02 PM

good cut blocker

Roy P 04-28-2012 12:20 PM

Keshawn Martin is the new slot/KR guy. Welcome to Houston. :)

machoneil 04-28-2012 12:23 PM

Overview

Martin is an explosive mover who is quick off the snap. A two-year starter for Michigan State and productive after short catches, he can take a bubble screen the distance. Athletic enough to be the superior guy against most DBs. He is a very good speed-variance route runner who can keep corners on their heels and toes. He has fourth-round value.

Analysis

Strengths
Martin is good at varying his speed. He can make ridiculous moves with his feet while still running full speed. He is explosive when moving off the ball and gets to top speed very quickly. This is usually how he dials up his routes, as he is into them before the corner is even ready. He uses this same foot quickness to get open at the top of routes. He has the speed to be a deep threat at the next level. He will work a lot of screens looking to get behind blocks of bigger receivers outside.
Weaknesses
Martin is uninspired when it comes to blocking. Despite decent size, he isn't very strong and just looks completely uninvolved. The same can be said when going across the middle; he is unreliable with defenders draped around him and needs to be completely open to finish the play.

Nconroe 04-28-2012 12:25 PM

Had top be a KR/WR sometime soon. We will see how he does,

Is defense next?

nunusguy 04-28-2012 12:26 PM

I guess this pick makes Jacobey totally redundant, the only question remaining is can they get something for him or will they end up just plain cutting him loose with nothing in return ?

Roy P 04-28-2012 12:31 PM

Wow! Jared Crick lasted this long. I love this pick and thought he'd be gone wayyyy before this. His injury scared me, but he will make Antonio Smith expendable after 2 years. Amazing 5-Technique

Nconroe 04-28-2012 12:36 PM

Sounds like fantastic DE to get here, just a little injury history.high motor guy.

jcp 04-28-2012 12:39 PM

Jared Crick sounds like a great pick for 3-4 DE...if draft scout is to be believed

idymoe 04-28-2012 12:57 PM

I approve this pick! You never know how each guy will pan out, but this is a quite well-rounded draft at this point.

nunusguy 04-28-2012 01:03 PM

This may be the value pick of our 2012 draft ! JJ clone ?
