A-11

Read this story this morning in the Washington Post about a completely new offense (A-11) thought up by a couple of guys at a small high school in California. They've been overmatched in the past and to level the playing field they've invented a new system. They play a center, two TE's, six wideouts and two QB's. That's right, ONE lineman, 2 TE's, 6 WR's and 2 QB's. The kicker? By taking advantage of a quirk in the high school rules, they line up both QB's in the shotgun, have everybody wear receiver-eligible numbers and EVERY PLAYER ON THE FIELD IS AN ELIGIBLE RECEIVER. They went 7 and 3 and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Less than half an hour after reading the WaPo story, I saw this on ESPN.com.

Some states have already banned it and it's not legal in the NFL, but apparently, there are situations (fourth and short where a kick would be considered a viable option) where it could be implemented in college.

Thoughts?

interesting reads. like it was mentioned, i doubt it gets all the way into the nfl but it is interesting that there are people out there trying to innovate in a game that's been around for a while now.

I saw that too....it wouldn't surprise me if the loophole got closed. I think it is very creative, but it's like they are playing a whole different game.

he worked with a webmaster to develop a Web site, A11offense.com, which has A-11 videos, links to A-11 articles and a schedule of A-11 coaching clinics. Lately the site has received about 700 hits per day, with ad revenue expected to produce as much as $7,500 to help fund the Piedmont football team.
classy use of 7.5 G's that he absolutely does not have to give to the program.

i like the innovation, i do, but the way he tweaked a scrimmage-kick into an every down situation is what will stop this one. i don't even know what a scrimmage-kick is....really though, it's not like it's a totally unfair system...the team went 7-3 and lost their first playoff game it's not like they went 18-0 by stealing sign.............

it would be cool to see teams trying something new but mr. a-11 and crew may as well get prepared for the interest he is going to get...from the arena league. i would like to see the dude try his hand at creating his own sport. clearly he's got a mind for it and it's about time we had something new...
