Texans working out RB's?!?

From Yahoo!:

Quote:

The Houston Texans are auditioning former Arizona Cardinals running back Alphonso Smith(notes) today, according to a league source with knowledgeof the situation.

The Texans are also expected to work out several linebackers today after the season-ending torn Achilles tendon suffered by middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans(notes).

Smith started nine games at the University of Kentucky, rushing for 974 career yards and eight touchdowns.

He aso had 28 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery on special teams and caught 30 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns.

Plus, he returned 15 kickoffs for a 22.4 average.
Does this mean we can expect a Slaton trade by the 3pm deadline? fingers crossed!

I don't think so. If there is one thing about Kubiak that I don't like is his tendency to hang on to players he knows are not going to make a difference. Just look at some of the PS guys now.

Maybe they are working out RB's and other guys on offense for practice squad.

From chron today- Meanwhile, the Texans tried out nine offensive free agents: quarterbacks Tom Brandstater and Jonathan Crompton; running backs Chris Jennings, Louis Rankin, Alfonso Smith, Javarris Williams and Clifton Smith; and tight ends Rob Myers and Derek Schouman.

Looks like trying out defense side tomorrow.

I think / hope Slayton returns to his rookie year form soon.

Today Texans worked out three DL.

I think that's a good idea to try and strengthen DL rotation if possible, somehow.

Still two open spots they might fill either off PS or from FA.
