Official 2010 Senior Bowl Thread
http://www.seniorbowl.com/rosters.asp
So far, not sorted into North and South rosters. Looks like a lot of SEC players will be on display. |
The 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2010, in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
************************** I thought they were gonna move this game from Mobile, but guess I got confused with another game (and I don't mean the B-G, I know that game left Houston for FLA) ? |
There are folks who WANT to move the game to Tampa and pair it with East-West Shrine Bowl so the scouts can watch a doubleheader, as it were.
|
Tate, Hardesty, Scott, and Dixon are 4 RB's I'd like to get a closer look at. Patrick Robinson is playing but, Haden is not.
|
The East-West Shrine game is Jan. 23, Saturday at 4 PM and has rosters out at

(Looks like we have our sixth-round choice pencilled in). |

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...-analysis.html *** On the other hand, Tennessee defensive tackle Dan Williams carries his 329 pounds very well and possesses one of the thickest bases I have ever seen. The guy has a massive bubble, really powerful-looking thighs and looks built to sit into his stance and overwhelm inside. ** However, the overall winner of the weigh-in was Idaho offensive lineman Mike Iupati, who measured in at 6-5 and carried his 325-pound frame extremely well. But, what was even more impressive were his 35-inch arms and 10 3/8 inch hands. Iupati made the biggest impression on me out of anyone down here today and I have a feeling he’s going to be one of the biggest winners down here this week. |
From what I saw, Iupati did not look as good as Jon Asamoah today when they went up against Jared Odrick. Asamoah has gone up against Odrick before as they are both in the same conference, but Jon has short arms supposedly. Who knows? I did come away impressed with Vladimir Ducasse from UMass. I have never seen him play so had no preconceived notion accept that he's huge 6'5" 330lbs and probably not on the Texans radar. Anyway, it was the first day.
|
Kyle Wilson, the CB from Boise State was the biggest standout of the day. During the CB vs. WR drill, Wilson undercut an out route for an interception on his first rep and was an offensive pass interference away from another on a nine route. Wilson was a premier punt returner in college, which means he is dangerous after an interception.
http://www.battleredblog.com/2010/1/...ractice-report *************************************** Yea this guy looked real good yesterday in Mobile and you know the Texans were paying close attention because if Robinson leaves CB will be very, very high on our priority list. |

According to Draft Countdown, the Texans were talking to these guys at the south practice: Dan Williams, Brandon Lang, and Harry Coleman - a defensive tackle, end , and back.

One other guy I thought looked good was Taylor Price, WR from Ohio. He caught everything and looked like an Austin Collie type of guy. Not sure how fast he will run but he looks like a player.

He might make sense as a late round project/teams guy, but he's projected as a 3rd rounder. I just don't see a match there. |

This whole Draft process has gotten so complex and sophisticated that it's well know that teams often fake an interest in certain players as a red herring to divert attention from the player(s) the team is actually most interested in picking. |

Kyle Wilson was better at BSU than Orlando Scandrick, who starts for Dallas, now. He's a pretty good punt returner, too. |

Texans spotted with: Lonyae Miller (as reported earlier), Daryl Washington (could be an amazing Will LB who can play all three downs), and Mike Iupati (he looks like a stud and is at the top of my wish list at this point).

I wonder if they're asking Lonyae Miller questions about Ryan Matthews :p

I'm wondering if Syd'Quan Thompson can play FS. He kind of reminds me of the FS for the Bills who had all those interceptions this year. Is Devin McCourty a DB who would strengthen our secondary without using a 1st round pick? Kyle Wilson is a third round steal, a 2nd round value, and a 1st round reach - when will he come off the board? I'm also sort of intrigued by some tall DTs Alex Carrington and Tyson Alualu is a guy that I'm wondering if he's a 1st round pick or a 2nd round steal. Jared Odrick falls in that category too. Could Cam Thomas be drafted in the 4th round to be a NT? Shawn Lauvao from Arizona State looks like a ZBS guy that meets the Texans eyeball test. I have liked Dan LeFevour for 3 years, but we have John David Booty so I'm torn. Is Daryl Washington the WILL we need, assuming we don't use our 1st round pick on Weatherspoon, or are we "set" with Diles, Adibi, or possibly Marcus Freeman? I want to see some more Anthony Dixon to compare him to Ryan Matthews. Still trying to determine why Ben Tate is being projected so late in mocks. Based upon Antoine Caldwell's development, I'm wondering if the Texans would feel comfortable selecting Mike Johnson in the 3rd round.
|
Kyle Wilson has really impressed me, he can play CB or FS, but I am still seeing him in the 2nd round, maybe late 1st.
My 1st round favorite currently is Mike Iupati, what he would bring to our OL is an attitude, similar to Brown in that regard, but more of large presence in the middle. Weatherspoon is also looking like a 2nd rounder, would love to get an extra 2nd or two. Dexter McCluster would be a fun luxury, imagine the mismatches he could become. |

In todays game DE Brandon Grahmn of Michigan looks like the second coming of Dwight Freeney.
And how about DT Dan Williams from Tenneesse ? Also very impressive at the game in Mobile today, so he's gonna probably be long gone before our 20th pick. |
I would draft DT, OG, or secondary (FS,CB), before I addressed the LB situation again.

Mike Iupati was not very impressive at all, wouldn't take him in the first. Dekoda Watson looks like a steal in the third. Dan Williams, Lamar Houston, and Odrick all looked good. Javier Arenas looked slow and undersized. Blount looked good and Ben Tate looked VERY good, I was suprised by his speed. T. Mays looked stiff and uncomfortable in man coverage but did have a int. Zac Robinson looked good in the pocket, as did LeFevour. Chris Scott looked leaner and impressive. Tyson Alualu also looked very good. Weatherspoon was everywhere. |

OK what about this Texans front-line - Mario @ strongside DE, Dan Williams at nose, Antonio Smith playing 3-technique, and Connor Barwin @ weakside DE ?

Did anyone notice Weatherspoon covering Dexter McCluster in the endzone? |
No doubt about it Mayocks favorite player this week in Mobile, guard Mike Iupati, was exposed big-time. He's a project as an OT and as a guard he's got a lot of bad habits that won't do in the NFL.

Looking at possible additions to the OL if we were to use a 1st round pick....
Trent Williams Height: 6-5 | Weight: 308 | Position:OT http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1123699 Anthony Davis Height: 6-6 | Weight: 325 | Position:OL http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1272306 Bryan Bulaga Height: 6-6 | Weight: 312 | Position:OL http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1243680 Bruce Campbell Height: 6-7 | Weight: 310 | Position:OL http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1242927 Charles Brown Height: 6-5 | Weight: 292 | Position:OL http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/559356 Personally, if Trent Williams is off the board when we pick, I wouldn't reach for any OL in this draft. |

Mike Johnson of Bama on the other hand, look more like the LG we need. |

Anybody got any thoughts on 'Bamas "Mount Cody" after the Senior-Bowl week/game ? After they said he was up 'bout 20 lbs from the end of the college season to 370, drafting him would seem to be more of a risk than ever ?

Unlike Roy, I would take a flyer on him in the 2nd round, but I would have to understand he is not a full timer, and I would have to try to pick his spots to get the most from him. Cody does not attempt to rush the passer right now and his pro coaches must understand he is a run stopper block occupier only. |
Since Roy and PK are in on this thread I would like to ask their opinion on LeGarrette Blount. From what I saw he was the best RB in the game and fits our need of a big back. I am aware of his imperfections character wise, but then we don't know all that led up to the sucker punch. If he passes the 'smell test' do you believe a draft choice (3 or 4) could be used on this guy?

Saturdays game he made an outstanding play, showing his athleticism even with the handicap of his immense weight. He kinda reminds me of Vince Wilfork when he came out of the U - exceptional athlete for his huge size, but a really fat guy to with all the risk and downside that goes with that. Wilfork is still playing at a high-level though, was in Miami for the probowl this week and he's been in the league 4 or 5 years. If there was just a way to get into this guys head and motivate him to stay at 335 or so he might be special ? |

That said I do not touch him before the 4th. |
