The upcoming Titans game

I see a whole lot of talk on this already in other threads so I thought it deserves its own thread.

The 5-4 Texans are coming off their bye week and hopefully have nursed up nagging injuries and will be ready to go. Last we left the Texans, they lost a close one to the Colts in their house. There's no shame in losing to a Colts a team that amazingly finds ways to get big plays when it counts.

The 3-6 Titans are rejuvenated and are building some confidence with VY at the helm after getting off to a horrendous 0-6 start.

The Texans need this one in a bad way if they want to be in the conversation in December....

Texans now favored by 4.5 to 5.

ESPN Monday night @ 7:30pm CST

NBT 11-16-2009 05:17 PM

The Titans are playing a lot better now. We need to bring our 'A' game. And no more careless turnovers.

TheMatrix31 11-16-2009 06:36 PM

Biggest game in franchise history? I think we're going to be saying that for every game from here on out.
Monday night, battle red, any chance at playoffs on the line, biggest rivals, Vince Young, etc....HUGE.

The zuit suits as I like to call them.
It's all about the next 3 games. We win 2 of them (any 2, but preferable one would be a win over the Jags) and we're still in the playoff conversation, but lose 2 or 3 and it's all over for 2009.

QFT... we've got to try and at least match last year's finishing kick (5-2) to have a chance at the playoffs. A win over the Jags gets us back to even with them in the head-to-head tiebreaker.

East - Pats
North - Bengals
South - Colts
West - Chargers
WC1 - Steelers
WC2 - Texans/Jags/Ravens/Broncos/Dolphins will be fighting for this last spot.

We kind of control our destiny in that we play the Jags and the Dolphins. I'm hoping the loser of the SD/Den game this weekend goes into a tailspin and falls out of contention. Ravens and Steelers splitting their two games head-to-head would help as well.

NBT 11-17-2009 01:09 PM

All said and done we need to win at least 5 of these games. We should do it.

Agreed, it needs start Monday Night. That's the most important game on the schedule since it's the next one up!

Mike 11-17-2009 03:17 PM

For those attending and tailgating...Preliminary report is the roof will be closed, 60% chance of precipitation, per houstontexans.com.

Hope the rain staus away, and alot can change between now and then. I love night games with the roof open, but it can be defeaning loud with the top closed, and enough of us yelling with numerous adult beverages in the system.

TheMatrix31 11-17-2009 06:12 PM

Keep it closed, get loud as hell.

The Hines real estate firm is taking a page from the University of Texas' playbook when it comes to showing gridiron spirit.

On Monday, "Texans" will be spelled out in lights on the south face of Williams Tower for that night's game between the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans.

UT lights up its tower with the number "1" when its football team scores a victory.

Most everybody knows the 64-story Williams Tower, formerly the Transco Tower, is the Galleria-area skyscraper at 2800 Post Oak Blvd. topped with a revolving beacon of light.

Spelled vertically, Hines said "Texans" will take up 390 feet and 242 windows.

Each letter will be more than 5 stories - or 65 feet - tall. And each letter will be 35 feet wide

OK now ! That's what I call smart PR and inspired team spirit.
And lets just make sure the MNF production gets the word.

Current forecast for Monday calls for a high of 75º with a low of 58º for Monday night. 10% chance of rain. I think that means the roof will be open so look for those aerial shots of Reliant and undoubtedly the Williams/Transco tower....

barrett 11-19-2009 05:12 PM

From Keith Bullock...

"You’re talking about a team that hasn’t even ever sniffed the playoffs before, so they beat us and other teams in the conference I guess to them it’s like a playoff win. It does something for them. I remember last game, it was only the second game of the season, but I thought it was like for the AFC Championship. So that said, they have a huge stage Monday night, we both do. I know they have playoff aspirations and everything so we’re really looking forward to come down to Houston and destroying all playoff thoughts and aspirations they have. Thank you. "

This guy is an idiot. I still remember him bad mouthing Slaton and saying he was no good after he got his 2nd 100 yard game last year (the only two Tennessee allowed). It's almost as if being a loud mouth is a requirment for playing on the Tennessee defense. Only they actually talk more when they play bad then when they win (see Courtland Finegan every time AJ abuses him, he simply gets louder and louder the more he gets beat).

Obviously from the top down these guys don't exactly epitomize class.

NBT 11-19-2009 05:53 PM

Let's just let our play in the game do our speaking, and come out with a win. We don't need to even dignify that blowhard with a reply other than that.

HPF Bob 11-19-2009 07:14 PM

USA Today is naming Vince Young as their fantasy pick of the week, predicting 255 yards passing and three touchdown throws. That doesn't mean they think he'll have the best fantasy stats of the week, only that he'll have the best fantasy stats for a player not claimed in most leagues.

Not sure I wouldn't prefer Ryan Moats for that honor.

Career highs for VY the way that our defense is playing.....uhhhh, I don't freaking think so! Sometimes I wonder if these "writers" actually see anything at all but sportscenter and the box scores....

barrett 11-20-2009 01:20 AM

Have those writers noticed that the way the Titans are winning is on the back of Chris Johnson. Young has 3 starts and 2 passing TDs. That is not to say he has played bad at all. He has really played pretty well.

It is just saying that the Titans are not going to all of a sudden start airing it out when they have finally gotten back to what won them games last year. Running the ball and playing defense.

TheMatrix31 11-20-2009 04:56 AM

Eff Keith Bulluck.

Roof update, from the official site... Roof open.

http://www.houstontexans.com/news/St...?story_id=5810

Man, Monday is going to be a completely wasted day, thinking about and getting ready for MNF.

If you guys have not heard Bernard Pollard's interview with Lance Z, it will get you fired up for football. Here is the link.

I have to say, I don't remember too many night games with the roof open. Of course, that may have something to do with the aforementioned adult beverages.

edo783 11-20-2009 10:41 PM

IIRC, the Broncos game was open.

Slaton back in starting lineup

From the Chronic:
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...t/6732850.html

Running back Steve Slaton will be back in the starting lineup Monday night when the Texans host the Tenn Titans.

Slaton found out today he would start after having a good week of practices. Ryan Moats started the 20-17 loss to Indianapolis on Nov. 8 because Slaton had lost five fumbles.

“I had an assumption that I would start, but nothing was concrete until now," Slaton said after being told by coach Gary Kubiak that he would be starting. “I'm happy about it. It's an opportunity I have to take full advantageof.”

NBT 11-21-2009 06:46 PM

Slaton is our best RB. He should start, but not at the expense of his constant fumbling. If he will just remember, in the heat of the run, to keep his elbow tight against his side he will be fine, otherwise he shouldn't even be in there.

iirc, the Sunday Nighter against the Chiefs in 2005 was with an open roof. T'was a forgettable affair though, so maybe I'm not remembering it right.

Mike 11-22-2009 08:31 AM

Keith, I have tried to forget that one. :p
