Official Texans vs. Raiders Game Thread, 10/04/2009

Breast Cancer Awareness Day today, and Moats Mother-In-Law. Looks like several guys wearing pink cleats today for this awareness today, which is a noble cause for sure.

Looking for some D today.

nunusguy 10-04-2009 11:28 AM

A noble cause to be sure. As someone who's wife is a breast-cancer survivor I certainly support your remarks there, Nconroe.
To the game - for the first time all year I'm reasonably confidant we are going to win. Or maybe it's just more a case of if we don't win our season is pretty much down the drain so far as making the playoffs go. The really pressure-packed, most challenging games should start next week on the road, if we win today.
There's still a chance at making the playoffs and this is another home game against the weakest opponent so far - shouldn't be a problem, and if it is then all the hopes and expectations of getting into the playoffs this year were in vain anyway.

Looking for some D today.

I'm starting McFadden and Slaton in my fantasy football league today, so I would imagine both will be held in check. Therefore, it will most likely come down to Schaub vs. Russell. Andre Johnson was his work cut out for him going up against the top CB in the NFL. Owen Daniels and Kevin Walters have to come through big today.

Please, let Duane Brown have the good fortune of being able to block Richard Seymour.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:04 PM

Gametime!

Texans receive the opening kick and bring it back to the Texan 36.

Slaton for no gain.

Slaton for 11.

Slaton for about 3. Ball at midfield.

Pass deep to AJ goes inc. but flag on the play. Holding against Raiders 5 yards/auto 1st down.

Pass to OD goes inc.

Slaton no gain. 3rd and 10 coming up.

Schaub sacked near midfield so Texans to punt.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:07 PM

I'm liking what the offense is doing to start. 2 Runs to Slaton and a Rollout. Owen dropped a big gainer. Blaming Schaub for being too high. Slaton for no gain.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:09 PM

Ellis sacked Schaub as he steps up in the pocket. Winston was blocking his back side but Ellis went front side.

HPF Bob 10-04-2009 12:10 PM

The o-line is going to have their hands full.

Now, we get to see the guy Jason Whitlock calls "Ja-off-the-Marcus".

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:11 PM

Barber misses tackle for loss on Murphy and gives up 3 yards. Antonio Smith gets his TFL on McFadden.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:12 PM

Raiders fair catch the punt at their own 14.

Screen pass goes for about 3.

Smith TFL on McFadden. 3rd and 11.

Pass complete but about 2 yards short of the 1st down. Raiders to punt.

HPF Bob 10-04-2009 12:13 PM

Raiders wearing pink. Never thought I'd see the day...

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:13 PM

Amobi Okoye gets pressure up the middle forcing Russell out of the pocket. Russell escapes and completes a short pass for 8 yards, but they still have to punt.

Good D :D

Fonz the Boss 10-04-2009 12:15 PM

Its crucial that we go up early.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:16 PM

Texans ball at their own 31.

1st down pass is batted down.

Deep pass to a wide open AJ goes all the way to inside the Raider 10.

Slaton no gain.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:16 PM

Raiders have 8 men in the box on 2nd and 10, so we Play Action and hit a bomb to wide open Andre Johnson. YEAH

Arky 10-04-2009 12:17 PM

2nd down pass thrown away. 3rd and goal from the 8.

3rd down pass is inc. so Texans to go for the FG.

K Brown 26 yd attempt is good.

Texans 3, Raiders 0

HPF Bob 10-04-2009 12:19 PM

Texans can't capitalize on the long pass to AJ. Come away with three.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:19 PM

RedZone offense.....
Hand off to Slaton - no gain.
2nd down....
Pump, Pump, Pump, throw out of bounds nobody was open.
3rd down....
Trips left empty backfield, Ricky Brown deflects pass intended for Daniels

Kickin' the FG at the 8 yard line.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:22 PM

S. Cody gets the start next to Okoye. Quin and Pollard starting today too.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:23 PM

K Brown squibs the kickoff and AD corrals the returner at the Raider 14.

McFadden for 2.

Amobi with a sack at the 10! Welcome back!

Bush for 1.

Raiders to punt.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:23 PM

Mario stops the run away from his side by chasing McFadden down from behind for a 2 yard gain. Okoye gets into the backfield again for a SACK this time. Cody tied up the C and LG.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:24 PM

DeMeco shoots the gap for a tackle. Another punt.

Very happy with the D. Announcers are trying to put the jynx on. Player haters.

Jacoby with a 23 yard punt return.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:24 PM

JJ nice return - 23 yards - on the punt. Ball at the Texan 44.

HPF Bob 10-04-2009 12:25 PM

Lechler outkicked the coverage which is a dangerous thing to do when Jacoby Jones is back there.

TheMatrix31 10-04-2009 12:25 PM

Let's get seven here. Kill some clock.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:27 PM

Flag on play - defense offsides. 1st and 5.

Slaton no gain.

Slaton fumbles - Raiders ball at the Texan 45.

Golden Arm 10-04-2009 12:27 PM

Would love a long, demoralizing drive here. Like that Schaub is going with a hard count today. Don't remember seeing that much... We'll take the free yards.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:28 PM

1st and 5 after penalty, and Slaton gets hand off for no gain.
2nd and 5 and Slaton trips over Studdard and fumbles. :(

TheMatrix31 10-04-2009 12:29 PM

Seriously? C'mon man.

Golden Arm 10-04-2009 12:29 PM

Demoralizing for the guys in Liberty White?!? :(

Absolutely snake bit

Arky 10-04-2009 12:31 PM

Pass to Miller good for a 1st down. Ball at the Texan 31.

Flag on the play.... False start Raiders - 1st and 15.

ibid. 1st and 20.

Bush on the draw - 4 yards.

2nd down pass goes inc. 3rd and 16 coming up.

Fonz the Boss 10-04-2009 12:32 PM

Just freakin throw the ball man!!! Our run offense is not reliable and our RBs have a problem securing the ball.... Throw it!!!

Arky 10-04-2009 12:34 PM

Pass to Miller good for 9 yards so 4th down and the Raiders to go for the FG.

46 yd attempt is good.

Texans 3, Raiders 3

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:35 PM

Mario got some pressure and Cushing made sure Miller didn't get any YAC.
Raiders false start leaving 1st and 15. Another false start for 1st and 20. Draw play bottled up by Barber and Ryans. 2nd and 16 - Inc. Pass to DH-B as Barber covers him up. 3rd and 16 - Mario got pressure and Ryans tackled Milller after little screen pass for 8. Janikowski ready to kick 46 yard FG that's good. Still satisfied with our Defense.

HPF Bob 10-04-2009 12:36 PM

The longer this season goes, the more I think Slaton's success last year was a fluke. He ought to be a third-down back.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:37 PM

Nice return by AD on the kickoff - brings it back to the Texan 31.

Tight end screen to OD goes for about 5.

Deep pass to Walter goes for 42 yards. Ball at the Raider 24.

Moats for 3 or 4.

2nd down pass goes inc.

Roy P 10-04-2009 12:41 PM

Moats sighting......
I always get a little frustrated when we run on 1st down with a run formation.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:41 PM

On 3rd and 6, Schaub hits AJ for about 4. Texans to go for the FG.

End of 1st quarter.

Arky 10-04-2009 12:44 PM

K Brown FG from 34 is good.

Texans 6, Raiders 3

Perhaps we should have drafted Glen Coffee instead of signing a undrafted FA to be our "power" back.

I think we would've drafted Coffee, but he got picked before our slot in the third round, so we ended up with this Crimson Tide buddy, Caldwell.
