Half the time...

This is no pushover game. I don't care what their record is. The team that opened the season cannot beat anyone. The team that played last week can play with anyone. We don't exactly have a good history of playing well after a big win......

Should we win, absolutely, BUT, you just never know.

MJD scares me just as much as the CJ/LW combo. Luckily (or unluckily depending on your point of view), they are having receiver issues, and their passing game is an issue for them. I am not so sure that is a good thing for us. Running defense is obviously an issue with us right now, and if they go chewing up the clock, our offense won't have time to get clicking.

Hell, even the Vegas goons aren't so sure, as we opened as a 3.5 favorite, AT HOME! With that, they put the U/O at 47, so they are expecting a TON of points......

papabear 09-23-2009 10:28 AM

Desperate teams are always dangerous, and trying to avoid 0-3 is about as desperate as they come. The other thing that scares me about this game is that Jacksonville's biggest strength, running the ball, is our biggest weakness.

It should definitely be a win. The run defense isn't really all that far away from being at least competent. If they can just avoid the occasional breakdowns that lead to the 60+ yard runs they will be OK.

I'm hoping Kevin Walter is back 100% this week. Davis is fine as a field stretcher, but Walter is a much more complete WR. Not to mention the fact that Davis couldn't block my 10 year old nephew, and Walter is one of the better blocking WR out there IMO.

Nconroe 09-23-2009 11:17 AM

Looks like Chester Pitts games playing streak is ending. Seems Studdard has been ok so far as his backup.

Wonder if CB Reeves will be back and if that helps our defense perhaps?

Fonz the Boss 09-23-2009 12:03 PM

At least they dont have Matt Jones anymore. He was too big to cover on quick slants.

They said he was running/practicing prior to the Tacks game but tired out quickly.

I imagine he'll start playing progressively more snaps each week as his continues to build up his endurance.

painekiller 09-23-2009 05:21 PM

You forgot the biggest reason to be scared about this game. I picked the Texans to win in the suicide game. That means the Jags win in a blowout.

Arky 09-23-2009 06:58 PM

Announcers = Bill Macatee and Steve Beuerlein

Looks like the Austin delegation will get the game. Not so for the Metroplex...

Maurice Drew will tear us apart.

NBT 09-24-2009 03:03 PM

We will work very hard on containing Mr. Drew-Jones this week in practice. I think we suck it up and have a good game against him. We still shouldn't take Garrard for granted either, he is big and can run with the pig too. We also have to work on our own run game so that we don't give JAX so many touches.

Nconroe 09-27-2009 09:41 AM

Battle Red Day against one of our division Rivals. Hopefully we get to add a running game to our offense this week. And a run defense starts to show up as well. If the team keeps the intensity it started showing last week, should be a good game.

Jags have come close in their two losses, so not really playing bad. They will start two rookies as WR this week.

I want to try and watch our Dline a little closer this week.

Big Texas 09-27-2009 11:44 AM

War UH!!!!!

Now its the other Houston teams turn.

1. Garrard better not look like Joe Montana

2. Jones-Drew better not look like Barry Sanders

3. Shaub better throw for 3 TD's, no INTs

4. Slaton needs at least a big run or big run after catch (hold on to the ball)

5. Defense, Defense, Defense.

6. I think Dunta gets a pick this game. (Don't quote me on that one)

7. Lets get out to a lead for a change.

Let's go.

nunusguy 09-27-2009 11:51 AM

Playoff calibre teams ususally always win this kinda game - division rival that's struggling, maybe in rebuilding mmode ? I mean if you can't beat them at home, usually you won't beat them in their place, notwithstanding last weeks surprising win in Nashville, and you gotta atleast split the division games if you want a shot at postseason.
So how does it go ? What have we got ourselves here, a playoff "contender or pretender ?"

Arky 09-27-2009 12:03 PM

Gametime!

Jags win the toss and defer. Texans to receive.

Jags 3, Texans 0

Roy P 09-27-2009 12:25 PM

I like the way the defense is flowing to the ball. That may make us vulnerable to misdirection, but at least we are being aggressive.

Arky 09-27-2009 12:27 PM

JJ brings the kickoff back to the 20.

Slaton for about 3.

Slaton for about 17.

Pass to AJ good for about 17. Ball in Jags territory - 45 yard line.

3rd down pass sails. Texans to punt.

Jags bring the punt back to their own 15.

Roy P 09-27-2009 12:29 PM

I think I just saw a hole and Steve Slaton ran through it. Studdard actually got a block on the second level. Now a big catch by Andre. Kubiak has them playing with some effort starting out.

Arky 09-27-2009 12:31 PM

Ball moved back to the 11 due to fair catch rule.

Cushing hits MJD for TFL. 2nd and 12.

Nice stand, defense.

Pass good for 14 - ball in Texan territory.

End of 1st quarter.

Roy P 09-27-2009 12:41 PM

I'm feeling pretty good about today. Hope we can keep this up. :D

Arky 09-27-2009 12:48 PM

Big pass good to the Texan 26.

1st down pass goes inc.

MJD for about 2. 3rd and 8.

Pass goes for about 10 and the 1st down. Ball at the Texan 13.

Cushing TFL on MJD. 2nd and 12.

Garrard pass to Wilford goes for the TD but red flag on the play.... Looks like he caught some white at the 2 and stepped out of bounds...

Review rules ball down at the 2, 1st and goal.

Garrard runs it in for the TD.

Jags 10, Texans 7

I'm starting to apporove of this pick in the 1st round. If nothing else, he shows the other players how to make a tackle. Busing should start taking some notes.

Roy P 09-27-2009 12:53 PM

Kubiak even won a challenge....the stars must be aligned on Battle Red day.

This game makes me nervous. Everything points to a Texan "W" - that makes me nervous.

Roy P 09-27-2009 12:56 PM

I guess I just put the kabosh on him. I didn't like the way he watched Garrard run into the endzone without putting a hit on him.

Arky 09-27-2009 12:59 PM

JJ brings the kick back to the 26.

1st down pass good to KW for about 19 yards. Roughing the passer on the play, 15 yards. Ball at the Jags 40.

Ok, Busing isn't a starter. Let's see what kind of production we can get out of Pollard. Safety is going to be the death of me. I may be willing to trade a 1st and 2nd to get a Taylor Mays for Eric Berry in this draft if it will fix this once and for all.

Arky 09-27-2009 01:40 PM

Halftime stats:

Passing: Schaub 15/21, 200 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT

Rushing: Slaton 8/31, C Brown 6/14, Walter 1/11

Receiving: AJ 4/86, Walter 4/60, OD 3/17, JJ 1/18, Slaton 1/15

Tackles: Busing/Bennett 3, many with 2

3rd down conversions: Jags 3/6, Texans 3/6

Time of possession: Jags 13:37, Texans 16:23

NBT 09-27-2009 01:47 PM

Yeah, I agree RP, the safety situation is getting down right ridiculous. And after what, 5 TD's by the opposition on the same exact play, including preseason, you would think Frank Bush would have this problem solved. Not So!

Arky 09-27-2009 01:57 PM

Jags bring the 2nd half kickoff back to the 17.

1st down pass good for about 6.

MJD for about 1. 3rd down and 3.

Reverse by Jags goes for about 18 - ball in Texan territory.

1st down pass inc.

2nd down pass inc. 3rd and 10.

Deep pass is good for the 1st down. Ball at the Texan 19.

MJD for about 5.

Pass from Garrard complete at the 1.

MJD for the 1 yd TD.

Jags 24, Texans 21

Drive ran about 5 minutes off the clock. Too many points allowed by the defense... :(
