Official Texans @ Chiefs Game Thread, 8/15/2009
Okay, so I am excited to see the 2009 Texans on the field, even if it is just the first game of the preseason, on the road no less.
Game is scheduled for Sat 8/15 at 7pm CT, broadcast locally on KTRK Ch 13. The game is scheduled to be re-broadcast on ch 13 at 1:05am later that night and again on NFL Network on Sun 8/16 at 9am CT and Mon 8/17 at 6am CT. Speaking of scheduling your DVRs, the 2008 Houston Texans NFL Yearbook is scheduled to air on 8/20 at 12:30am CT on ESPN2. |
I'm excited, too. I'm obviously excited to see how Cushing plays, but I'll probably be watching our secondary play the most closely.
|
I am excited and scared at the same time. Yeah, it is the first pre-season game, but if they look bad, then I have a feeling panic will set in.
Same theory with EZS, I'll will be looking at Glover and Brice. In a way, I hope the defense stays generic, nothing elaborate to show on film. |
It'll be great to see how all the guys do in a real practice game. with 80 guys to evaluate, should be plenty to look at.

does anyone remember that site that showed you what games are being broadcast where? Does it work for the pre-season? I might have to be out of town Sat. evening.

No dice on preseason games. I would assume, unless they are on SNF/MNF/ESPN, they are pretty local. |

It doesn't look like they post for preseason. If you have NFL Network, they are re-broadcasting (and in some cases broadcasting live) all of the preseason games. Best thing I would do is a DVR search there or look at either the nfl.com or nfl network websites for more. |
thanks guys....it's not being broadcasted locally in Beaumont that I can find. So, the family will just have to have their little celebration without me, or I'll DVR it or catch a re-broadcast.

The player with the most to prove on Saturday?
I'm going with Dan Orlovsky. He needs to have a good game to clearly separate himself from Grossman and show that the team can count on him if Matt Schaub goes down with injury. So he's the one I think I want to see the most, too. I was really anticipating an extended look at Arian Foster, but he won't play due to his hamstring. |
Is Caldwell starting at Center? I'm really interested in watching him and see if he really is capable of stepping in for Chris Meyers this season and improving that position.
|
Hmm, lots to be watching this early in the year, I was thinking the 5 TE's, 3 who also snap would be most interesting, now I think watching our young CB's should be interesting as well. And I hope our DL is more disruptive than before.

IIRC Vilma was rookie of the year and traded when his team went to a 3-4, could DJ be heading down a similar path? Time will tell. |

As for being traded, Johnson would have been on the block earlier this year if at all (especially under a new HC and front office) since 2009 is his final under contract. No offense to Diles or Adibi, but looking ahead to 2010, I'd be very curious about him as a Will in the Texans defense. Very curious indeed. |
agreed. 4-3 WLB is where he belongs and we are currently very unsettled at that spot. Now I would be more than happy if one of our guys really took ownership of that spot this season, but if not, I'd love to see us add a guy like Johnson in FA. He has great speed and would probably have a reasonable price tag. It would be far better than spending another high draft pick on a LB.
|
I've been looking at both KC and Denver and imagining who will shake out in the transition to a 3-4. The Broncos are trying 4-3 DEs like Elvis Dumerville, Jarvis Moss and Tim Crowder as OLBs in a 3-4 defense where, honestly, I think they'll all suck. It would be great to take those three and Derrick Johnson and fit them into the Texans' defense. We'd have an instant solution to our WLB and speed-rushing DE needs. Keep an eye on the waiver wires.

DJ 6-3 242, can someone explain to me again why Capers thought this is small? Vilma 6-1 230. Demeco Ryans 6-1 248 Jaimie Sharper 6-3 239 Kailee Wong 6-2 250 And if I read the stat sheets correctly, DJ is going to be a Chief next year also. |

Nine and a half more hours until Texans football!
I need a nap to make this day go by faster, it's like Christmas for a kid. :D |
I can't wait to see Barwin rush the passer, and Quinn and Nolan in the Secondary. Is Chris Brown hurt yet? Maybe he could show me that he can run the ball.
|
Austin viewers can catch the game on KNVA (cable channel 12). I don't believe it is available in HD, for those who care.
|
I am so ready. I am just doing any and everything to past the time.
|
I'm predicting our offense clubs their D in the first half!, and hell let's through in a sack for Barwin. I am just about break out Shiner! Life is good!! GO TEXANS!!!!
|
I'm also hopeful that Shaun Cody looks good today.
|
Bah, ABC13 needs to get with the program on their HD.....
|
they have already started off bad. two horrible run plays. feeling the effects of no chester
|
Texans receive opening kickoff and have a couple of completed passes, a couple of stuffed runs and then a sack.
Texans punt - KC's ball. KC gets a 1st down. Ball currently at their own 36. Texans stop the 3rd and 3. KC to punt. Punt is downed inside the 5. |
I'm not sure a sack on the first series is the best thing for our oft injured qb. Hope fully this next series is better.
On a lighter note, the defense did force a punt. |
It's raining really hard. Good passes to Johnson and then Walters. nice recovery by Studdard after horse collare takkle on brown.
|
Pass to AJ gets the Texans out of the hole. Ball at about the Texan 30...
Raining pretty strong... Holding on the Texans - ball back at the Texan 27... Anderson catches a short pass... 3rd and 10... Horse collar tackle saves Chris Brown's miscue after big gainer.... Texans ball now at the Chiefs 20.. Texans moving the ball.... Brown takes it to the 2. |
Are we *ever* going to give up the "slow white boy reverse" play? It never works.
Nice run by Chris Brown there. Texans in the red zone. |
Schaub is looking very comfortable in the pocket. 7/7 passing for the early going now into deep red zone. Make it happen, fellas. TO called at 3rd and 1.
|
whAT THE HELL? where did chris brown come from. Just stay healthy thats all I ask.
|
shaub is looking great
|
offense looking real good this secnd series. interesting listening to radio about 10 seconds ahead of TV. Texans third and one on 3, now touchdown by brown. pretty good.
|
Chris Brown punches it in!
Texans 7, KC 0 |
Goal line TD. feels good to have your hard work pay off for a change
|
Chris Brown and his band of renown get into the end zone. And now he's going to kick the extra point. Oh, wait. That's the other Kris Brown.
So, it's Texans 7, Chefs 0. |
