Deshaun Watson TRADED to the Browns

Panthers, Seahawks....and Saints are the current leaders in the clubhouse.

Here are the current draft assets for each team...

Panthers:
2022 1st (6th overall)
(2) 2022 5th rounders (from JAX and their own)
2022 6th (from LV)
2022 7th (from TEN)
2023 - they have all their picks except for their 6th and they get an extra 7th
2024 - they have all their picks

Summary - they can trade their next 3 1st rounders if they want to, but can't add much more in 2022.

Seahawks
2022 1st (9th overall from DEN)
(2) 2022 2nd rounders (from DEN and their own)
2022 3rd
2022 4th (from NYJ)
(2) 2022 5th rounders (from DEN and their own)
2022 7th
2023 - they have all their picks plus DEN's 1st and 2nd rounders and PIT's 5th
2024 - they have all their picks

Summary - draft capital-wise, the Seahawks can offer the most. Over the next 2 years, they could offer (3) 1sts and (3) 2nds if they wanted to.

Saints
2022 1st (18th overall)
2022 2nd
2022 3rd* (projected comp pick)
2022 4th
2022 5th
2022 6th* (projected comp pick)
2022 7th
2023 - they have all their picks except for their 6th rounder
2024 - they have all their picks except for their 6th rounder

Summary - they can offer a lot of picks over the next 3 years, but they would probably not be as high as Seattle's, especially short-term.

Thanks. It all looks good to me. I really can't wait for the day for this franchise to turn the page on this saga.

chuck 03-14-2022 04:42 PM

It still completely blows my mind that the team dicks around for 20 years, finally gets a top-5 quarterback, this is top-5 in a league with the greatest ever and several other Go Straight to Canton types, then, through brutal neckdickery they manage to alienate him to the point where he simply refuses to play for the team anymore. I think that given the rarity of guys who can play qb at a high level in the NFL this whole thing has been under appreciated by most everyone.

So the Texans are going to get three firsts. Outstanding. Say hello to Travis Johnson, Amobi Okoye and Kevin Johnson.

Watson meeting with Carolina and New Orleans tonight.

Who's underappreciating it? The Texans are a joke inside and outside Houston. Who doesn't know they're more screwed up than any team in pro sports?

bikerack 03-15-2022 09:35 AM

Since Watson is reportedly meeting with the Cleveland brass today, here is the Browns draft capital over the next 3 years...

Browns
2022 1st (13th overall)
2022 2nd
(2) 2022 3rds* (including projected comp pick)
(2) 2022 4ths (from DET and their own)
2022 6th (from DAL)
2022 7th (from DET)
2023 - they have all their picks
2024 - they have all their picks

Summary - slightly better than the picks the Saints can offer.

bikerack 03-15-2022 10:44 AM

And now the Falcons have entered the group chat.

Bring on the bidding war

chuck 03-15-2022 02:05 PM

There's far more discussion of his legal issues in Houston and nationally than there is of the team's having alienated him due to uncontrollable neckery. Yes, of course, everyone knows the team is a joke, but there aren't very many examples of a team's doing this. Maybe none if you exclude Detroit.

bikerack 03-15-2022 06:51 PM

Falcons
2022 1st (8th overall)
(2) 2022 2nds (TEN's and their own)
2022 3rd
2022 4th
2022 5th
(2) 2022 6ths (including comp pick)
2023 - they have all their picks except for their 6th and they have an extra 4th from TEN
2024 - they have all their picks

Summary - they can offer more/better picks than the Saints and Browns.

bikerack 03-15-2022 06:56 PM

So, when thinking of draft capital only, this is how I rank the potential teams...

1. Falcons (they have the 8th overall pick and (2) 2nds this year. They also have almost all their future picks.
2. Browns (they have the 13th overall pick and all their future picks.)
3. Panthers (they have the 6th overall pick but all other draft comp would have to come from future years)
4. Saints (they have the 18th overall pick and almost all their future picks)

I am not including Seattle in my rankings since they seem to be out.

I agree our incompetence is unprecedented.

As for why Watson's legal issues are discussed more, I would assume it's because he's a relevant NFL QB and we are an irrelevant NFL footnote.

bikerack 03-15-2022 11:39 PM

Just heard from my friend and the Saints are the furthest along. The comp package has been signed off on and they just need Watson to agree to go to NO. Could happen as soon as tomorrow.

bikerack 03-16-2022 09:28 AM

The Panthers and Browns trade packages have been approved as well.

No real offer from the Falcons yet so a Watson meeting won't happen unless they get a framework approved.

bikerack 03-16-2022 02:20 PM

More teams calling at the "last minute" including the Giants...but unsure if Watson is even interested in them.

bikerack 03-16-2022 07:24 PM

Watson is taking the night (and maybe tomorrow) to make a decision. Everyone (including Watson) wants the deal done by Saturday.

bikerack 03-17-2022 10:20 AM

LOTS of smoke this morning that the Saints are going to be the team to get Watson.

He met with them for a 2nd time last night.

Players headed to Houston are starting to leak out (possibilities are Erik McCoy/Cesar Ruiz and CJ Gardner-Johnson). One of them (CJGJ) has even removed Saints stuff from his social media.

Cleveland has been told they are out of the mix.

That all being said, my friend says the ATL offer "is legit!"

bikerack 03-17-2022 08:13 PM

Panthers officially out

Keith 03-17-2022 08:45 PM

I wonder if Watson stalling his decision is to allow the Falcons time to trade Matt Ryan before killing his trade value any more than it has. Assuming Watson has picked Atlanta, it’s in his favor for his new team to maximize any return for Ryan.

I’m annoyed like everyone that Watson is taking his extra time to “weigh his decison”, but there’s no rush over a couple extra days. There’s like zero chance he hasn’t already decided.

bikerack 03-18-2022 11:16 AM

AJ Terrell will be a Texan if Watson selects ATL...and by all accounts, that is what will happen.

There is another player in the deal but not near the caliber of Terrell.

My friend says the ATL trade offer is the best by far.

Hey Biker you don't need an insider to explain to you that the ATL deal is better than what NOLA has to offer, but nothing but rumors to this point.

bikerack 03-18-2022 01:05 PM

The main difference between the two is NO is heavy on players and lighter on picks.

ATL is heavy on picks and includes only 1-2 players.

But message received. Peace, out.

Keith 03-18-2022 02:18 PM

Awesome, love the updates.

A.J. Terrell is a stud. Excited to learn the full package.

There is so much smoke and misinfo out there. We definitely need and appreciate bikerack’s intel.

chuck 03-18-2022 03:18 PM

Welp, it's the Browns, just like everyone has been saying.

Keith 03-18-2022 03:39 PM

Wow, stunned.

2022 1st (13th overall)
2023 1st
2024 1st
2023 3rd
2024 4th

for Deshaun Watson and 2024 fifth

I mean, three first rounders is good, and I am thrilled this chapter can be closed. But... I have to imagine the Falcons and Panthers had better packages?

Eh, this isn't a funeral. It's a celebration.

I'm assuming each had a deal to clear the bar set by the Texans, and then the choice came down to who Deshaun selected. I guess $230 million guaranteed convinced him. I guess he didn't learn from taking the Texans money. He went out and picked a franchise almost as screwed up as the one he's leaving. The Browns turned years of tanking and high picks into one playoff appearance that ended in the divisional round.

Arky 03-19-2022 05:55 AM

Picking #3 and #13 in the first round is nice, that is, if they don't screw it up.

I'd really like to see them go after anything but a QB. As president of the Davis Mills Fan Club, I don't see QB as a pressing need right now....

I want to be in your DM fan club too Arky.
Speaking of #3 & #13, hey when are you going to put up your Texans' mock Draft ?

Eheh, the draft ain't my area. ;)

The Texans are always unpredictable... usually they do the opposite of what makes the most sense.... Some people think they will trade away either #3 or #13 but not both. That could be a juicy deal for them if they play it right...

The radio guys were talking about how it's time for them to draft someone that brings the excitement - a playmaker with some charisma - someone who sells tickets. Another JJ Watt or a Watson before the issues. I agree.
