Official Texans @ Titans Game Thread, 12/3/2017

The 4-7 Texans travel to Nashville, Tennessee this Sunday to take on the 7-4 Titans in an early Sunday game. The Texans are coming off a 23-16 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens on MNF. The Titans are coming off a 20-16 road win over the Indianapolis Colts.

In the last four games, the Texans have lost the turnover battle 10-3. For the year, the Texans are -8 in giveaway/takeaway. The Titans are -4. Quite simply, if the Texans don't turn it over, they have a shot at winning...

WR Deandre Hopkins crossed the 1000 yards receiving mark last week. He's currently 4th in the league in receiving with 1004 yards.

Texans bringing up 3 guys from practice squad, 2 OLB and 1 OL. Might as well start seeing what we have in young guys to help draft and free agent plans.

Gotta decide on Cushing activation pretty soon.

I guess id like to see some other QB now, though looks like he may get one more audition at ball control.

nunusguy 12-02-2017 12:05 PM

Ok so I'm looking forward to tomorrows game. Yea I really said that, but then I look forward to all Texans games, even preseason games, and that's what tomorrow game is, a glorified preseason game. It's a long stretch after the season ends when there's no NLF football, not even preseason NFL football.

HPF Bob 12-03-2017 08:54 AM

J.J. Watt showed off his grisly scar and attempted to walk for the first time since breaking his leg the other day. Let's hope in 2018 we can finally get a full year of Watt, Clowney and Watson (sounds like a law firm, don't they?) just so we can finally see what we could have had.

Arky 12-03-2017 12:16 PM

Keith 12-03-2017 12:17 PM

9:21 remaining in 1st quarter, Texans up 3-0 after TD catch by Hopkins is overturned (correctly) by replay.

Run game ineffective. Special teams fumble forced and recovery set up drive. Great pass and catch by Andre Ellington to get field position. Makeshift OL holding up so far.

Sounds like Fido is back in concussion protocol. Bummer for him. Maybe now Stephen Anderson takes over... he is a great receiving threat, helpful now that Bruce Ellington is questionable to return, too.

I'd like to see the Texans acquire another TE (off season?) if possible. Fido looked like he was coming around but lately he's been plagued by injury and inconsistencies.....

Really strong game by Savage, except for that pass into double coverage to Hopkins in the EZ at the end of the game.
And that was Clowneys worst game of the year, damn big fella get your head out of your ass.

Arky 12-04-2017 01:41 PM

Early line on Texans vs. 49ers is Texans by 1 to 2...

Definitely Savage's best game and real improvement shown. If he wanted a job as a backup at close to league minimum next year I'd bring him back. I definitely wouldn't say really strong game though. We scored 13 points against a team that is 25th in DVOA and bottom half in scoring defense. Moving the ball for passing yards is better than not moving the ball, but turning it into points is what QBs get paid for.

C'mon Barrett quit being such a hard-azz, Savage played well and threw some excellent passes yesterday except I will admit that pass at the end was ill advised. And he's not gonna be anywhere next year for or at close to the league mimimun, the kid is gonna get paid.
But JD Clowneys performance was disappointing, especially for who is probably the best football player in the state of Texas. He had like 3 or 4 offsides.

You are way overestimating the market for Savage. Savage has 5 career TDs, a negative TD to INT ratio, the most fumbles in the league even though he hasn't played half the games, and is a career 58% passer. He'll be a 5th year player next year and minimum for a 5th year guy is $775,000.

My guess is Savage gets a short term deal for about $1 million a year. If that is the market then I don't mind bringing him back as the backup (I'd add another young guy somehow as well). If somebody wants to overpay him I'll gladly wish him luck elsewhere.

Either way I'm not understanding where you get the idea he's going to get paid next year. He's accomplished nothing in his 4 year career. He's been constantly hurt, he's got terrible accuracy, no pocket awareness, and prior to this season he managed to get 3 starts in 3 years for a team that started 8 QBs during that time. Add to that he was never projected as more than a backup QB at any time before or after entering the NFL.

Here is a list of guys who signed in the neighborhood I'm talking about (all of whom have track record and pedigree equal to or better than Savage).

Gabbert 1 year $895,000
Geno Smith 1/$1.2 million
EJ Manuel 1/$800,000
Kellen Moore 1/$775,000

I have two networks
so my son can watch his shows
while I watch the game.

Occasionally
I get up to 60 megs
but the throughput sucks.

Nunu's as confused

I live in San Juan.

You know I was confused until my good friend Barrett took me aside and explained your situation to me, which is of course that you are a long-time River Oaks resident along with your next door neighbors the McNair family.
But he also explained to me about how you'd bought this property in PR as sorta a vacation retreat for your domestic help.
See now there's a feel good Christmas story about being charitable with ones fellow man, in this case some of his employees but you know just the Chuckster being the Chuckster.

Keith 12-06-2017 10:31 PM

Speaking of good Christmas stories, what with the 2017 season basically over, sure seems like a good time for chuck to fire up the wayback prose machine... either that or we go back to the haiku contest.

With so many injured
It's great to have Cushing back,
like 2018 but 2017 season.

I was going to tell a story about one of the countless times Cal and I played board games in his parent's den but then I remembered how it ended and you know how I hate to embarrass the McNair family so I thought better of it. Maybe I'll just make something up instead.
