So neither Cook or Lynch are your guys? Please explain.

popanot 01-31-2016 01:30 PM

I'll trade up and take Lynch at pick #72 and then trade up again and take Cory Coleman at pick #73. ;)

I think Lynch is a project...we have a project in Savage that is already on the roster. I don't think Cook could lead a buzzard to roadkill.

The only thing worse than not having a Franchise QB is investing in a a guy like he is when he's not.

I would say this is mostly true. Not attempting to get a franchise QB year after year is worse than both.

barrett 01-31-2016 04:02 PM

And I totally agree on Lynch, and it appears it is true about Cook. Any multi year starter at QB that does not get voted team QB his senior year probably has issues.

Roy P 01-31-2016 04:09 PM

If it were possible to trade down and gain an extra pick and be able to select TE Hunter Henry, QB Dak Prescott, and RB Kenneth Dixon in this draft, I would buy season tickets.

Ooh, that would be nice... Prescott has Russell Wilson-type upside, IMO and of course I like Henry (Arkansas). Really like the heads-up he showed vs. Ole Miss with the lateral.... they called it the "backwards Hail Mary"....

barrett 01-31-2016 08:02 PM

Wilson was in a very pro style offense at Wisconsin. Prescott may have Wilson potential long term, but he has way more to learn about playing NFL QB than Wilson did as a rookie.

Nconroe 01-31-2016 09:03 PM

Getting hunter Henry at TE would be a good get for sure.

Roy P 02-02-2016 10:01 PM

Depending upon the Combine, I might need to move Jayron Kearse and Miles Killebrew up my draft board. A couple of badass players on the backend. Also reviewing more tape on Jacoby Brisset. He's got some talent and size.

Looking at my board and current mock drafts I would like to see the Texans be able to select the following players:
TE Hunter Henry
RB Kenneth Dixon
QB Dak Prescott
RB Aaron Green
DE Matt Ioannidis
ILB Blake Martinez
NT D.J. Reader

I realized that I love Dak's game more than Draft Scouts. So, if I can wait until the 3rd round to get the guy I want, then I can save my 2nd round pick for a player who will not last to the third. There's a certain amount of gamesmanship when making a draft board. I have guys that I really like and I have to maximize the opportunity to select as many as possible. Perhaps CBS Sportsline has players like Prescott, Kenyan Drake, Aaron Green, Matt Ioannidis, Blake Martinez, D.J. Reader, Miles Killebrew, Jacoby Brissett, Kevin Hogan, and Jayron Kearse too low or I am rating them too high. We shall know more after the Combine.

Medical salesman and color commentator for Illinois State University football team. He was placed on IR with the Texans and given an injury settlement. He was great as a Special Teams player with KC before being converted into a Fullback.

Nice list and thank you for spending the time to compile the rankings. I like most of rankings, but I know you will be adjusting this as we get closer to the draft.

Roy P 02-13-2016 03:44 PM

As I am reviewing tape, mocking, comparing Combine measurables the list will get tweaked. I may warm up to the idea of adding players to the list or removing if I don't like the perceived value. Currently I am considering Darron Lee and Jaylon Smith. Yet, not sure I want to draft an ILB to replace Cushing with a 1st round pick. Now, if one of them runs a 4.47 and Benches 30 times, I might change my mind. I am all over the place on Dak Prescott. I wouldn't be opposed to taking him at #22, but if I'm the only one who feels like that and I could get him in the 3rd round after selecting the best TE and RB to go with him, that would be foolish. So, I need to establish his value. I also need to determine if Lynch or Cook would be an upgrade over Savage next season.

When I looked at your list I was surprised you had Dak at 26. IMO the QB positions is so important, and we need a solid guy at that position. So if you think Dak is the guy, you have to rate him above some of the other positions/players you have ranked above him.

And as you state, if you (or the Texans) are the only team ranking him that high, who are you missing out on?

I am torn also. One thing I do know right now, I am not on the Hackenberg in the 2nd round bandwagon. If he falls far enough maybe, but the young man has showed very little the last two years. And I am tired of seeing mocks with him in the 2nd and Ezekiel Elliott in the 1st.

I notice you don't have Ezekiel Elliott on your list, what are your misgivings with him?

Roy P 02-14-2016 01:31 PM

I'm probably going to rank Dak Prescott high enough to select in the 2nd round. The problem is that I really want to take Kenneth Dixon too. I'm not sure that I can have both. I don't like the idea of drafting a RB in the 1st round unless his name is Adrian Peterson. I got burned on Melvin Gordon last year. The only reason I'm willing to spend a 2nd round pick on Dixon is because he has the size and speed to be an every-down back and he can catch passes out of the backfield. If I don't get him, I'll need to draft 2 RBs to replace Arian Foster. Maybe Aaron Green and Jonathan Williams. I don't have Elliott or Henry on my list because I feel like they are overweight and overvalued. Coming from those offenses behind those Offensive Lines, they had huge holes to run through. Hard to scout the vision and shiftiness of a RB who has 4 yards before a defender is close to tackle him.

I say this every year it seems, but if I could trade down and pick up another 3rd and 4th round pick I would be very happy.

I agree with trying to get both these guys.

My problem is in knowing this is a deep defensive draft and we are needing to go offense. The deepest are is DL especially 1st round DL.

There are NT and DE types that would help the defense out.

I agree that there will be plenty of DL drafted the first 2 days. My favorite value pick to replace Jared Crick is Matt Ioannidis from Temple. The NT Jarran Reed is going to be special as will Deforest Buckner, but I don't think they last to #22. Butler is probably the 2nd round pick I pass on for a QB or RB. Maybe I look at Javon Hargrave, but most likely fit/value pick is D.J. Reader to take over for Wilfork.

The other thought I have is forgetting about my pipe dream of an "athletic QB" and wait for Kevin Hogan who would be a great fit for this system and they could potentially get him with a 4th or even 5th round pick.

I may have found a Sleeper OG. Ted Karras of Illinois. Not sure if he will be at the Combine, but I need to do a little more analysis on him.

His great uncle should be in the HOF, the late Alex Karris.

He is graded by NFL.com with a score of 5.1. Which places him right at the 30th best OL guy in the draft. Which has him in the mid to late part of the draft.

Roy P 02-21-2016 01:56 PM

Going to have to add ILB Nick Vigil to my draft board. Just. Took him with my last pick in a mock draft.

Major changes at the top of this. Kinda shocked at a few of them.

Roy P 02-26-2016 05:21 PM

The board is fluid. As I am watching the Combine, I was impressed with the RBs...Henry, Elliott, Prosise, Lasco. The OL Conklin, Spriggs, Kelly, Westerman, Dahl, and McGovern gave me hope. I was disappointed by Dixon (wish he was faster) and Booker (wish he would have been able to run) and Decker (looked stiff). I have decided to be all in with Dak Prescott and have Lynch as my fall back guy. The board will change again the next few days once I can analyze all the data. Then even more as I continue to mock and see what I can expect on draft day.

That is one of the changes that jumped at me. I want to see the guys throw.

Also Elliot was faster than i was expecting, but his pass catching skills sucked. He is not going to be a Foster clone, but he can block and run with the best of them.

Dixon's time was respectable and faster than Arian Fosters forty (4.68) in his combine. And his hands are natural, he looked very fluid with the ball in the air. Now Dixon did look stiff in the hips.

Also I was impressed by Henry, he was not fighting the ball like Elliot in the pass catching drills. For a huge man, he looked very good.

Roy P 02-26-2016 06:09 PM

My hope is that we trade down and pick Prescott in the 1st round.

Henry was explosive for his size. Elliott not being a very good receiver concerns me. Dixon was good but less than I expected. Prosise reminds me of David Johnson.

If we trade down and gain additional picks, I would love to get Westerman and plug him in at OC and maybe Joe Dahl to play RG if we don't sign our FAs.

And in most of my mocks, i am jumping all over the trade down idea. Unless you are sold on one of the guys at 22, trade down and grab picks. There are a few 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB that we have no business taking that might be garnering some trade interest.

I'm thinking that a team might be willing to trade for Lawson or Calhoun....perhaps a RB or OT too.

A case could be made that we need an OT and/or RB, not as much as we need more picks in the first 4 rounds, preferably in the top 3 rounds.

And now that they are talking about keeping Foster.

I agree that we need a RB and OT. But if we could pick up extra picks by trading down, those picks could potentially be parlayed into Kenneth Dixon and Kyle Murphy and I would still be able to select Dak Prescott. If I am getting my guy to develop, I want the luxury of surrounding him with support instead of forfeiting picks to trade up for a Paxton Lynch. I considered what the Redskins gave up for RGIII.

We won't cut Foster because of his salary...we will cut him because of his inability to stay healthy. It's not a lie by Rick Smith, it's semantics. The GM wants to have a"poker face" considering the owner has told the world that we are getting a QB.
