Official 2015 NFL Draft - Round 2 & 3 Thread

Top of the board seems to set up with some nice trade up options. Gregory fell out of the first round, as did the safety Collins, some decent WRs like Strong & DGB, LB Harold, plus TE Maxx Williams.

painekiller 05-01-2015 11:10 AM

OK so who was the target at 32? The rumor was we wanted to trade back into the 1st round and grab NE pick at 32, who was the target and is he still there?

Was it Gregory? Was it Dorsett? Was it Brown?

Is the guy still on the board and do they try to get move up tonight to 33-35 range?

The news broke when the Colts were on the clock IIRC.

If we wait until 51 my targets are now a)Chris Conley, WR, Georgia, b) Devin Funchess, WR/TE, Michigan, c) Jaquiski Tartt, S, Samford.

610 sports radio with Mike Melster & Seth Payne (former Texans NT), say it was the guy that Indy took with their first round pick. Thy say the trade was predicated on Dorsett being on the board when the Pats were picking, but of course he wasn't so the deal was set aside. So FWIW, that's what the 610 crew is claiming.

HPF Bob 05-01-2015 12:35 PM

Probably just as well that the Texans didn't make that trade. They would have had to give up too much to move up that high - likely a 2nd and 3rd or a 2nd and next year's 2nd.

Keith 05-01-2015 01:23 PM

The rumor is the Texans twice tried to trade back into the first round. First time they were after Bud Dupree, then the second time was for Dorsett.

If so, then it makes me wonder how much the team is interested in guys like Gregory, Strong, and DGB. There's just so many good options to start the 2nd round, I hope they don't get too antsy. Trading up for Dorsett is not something I would have been thrilled with, and I am sure the price to move up for Dupree was cost prohibitive.

But if you hit on someone in the 1st, you have that 5th year option. That could be a fairly substantial money/cap saver.

Nconroe 05-01-2015 01:51 PM

picks 51 and 82 coming up tonight if no trades.

if possible rumored trades were for OLB and WR, then perhaps those are positions we might target today.

just depends on many things, how the draft will flow.

And I like the CB we picked in the first round. Does make sense in a passing league and our division.

I would have been very excited with getting Dorsett. I liked the young man immensely. Take the top off defense type speed, a true slot guy, and great hands.

I don't understand the Colts not going OL or front 7 in defense. When is Dorsett going to play for them?

WMH 05-01-2015 02:51 PM

Latest rumor is shopping JJo for draft picks.

Likely BS, as it really doesn't make much sense to do so. At this point of the off-season, need the player more than the cap room.

Being a Colts fan, I am shocked that they didn't take Malcolm Brown or Jake Fisher, or even Eli Harold or Preston Smith. But, it will be hard for anyone to match up with the weapons, so Defenses will have to get some pass rush against a porous OLine.

Would love to see them move up and get DGB. Not their type of guy with the red flags and probably wont happen, but if you're going to move up, get a guy who could be all-pro if he gets his head on straight. I'd rather we move up and get him over seeing him go to Possum Holler.

Roy P 05-01-2015 06:34 PM

The Jets select Devin Smith at #37. :(

popanot 05-01-2015 06:34 PM

Dang it! There goes Devin Smith. Was hoping he'd at least drop to us if we stay at 51.

Arky 05-01-2015 06:35 PM

Offense..... gots to do something about that offense...

Roy P 05-01-2015 06:43 PM

The Redskins take my guy, Preston Smith. He can play defense.

popanot 05-01-2015 06:47 PM

Titans draft DGB! Bastards!

Blitzwood 05-01-2015 06:50 PM

Could Eli Harold be our pick....hope he's there.

He just went to Possum Holler.

Arky 05-01-2015 06:52 PM

Just the 2nd round but our AFC South compadres are really making some nice picks.....

Yeah, saw that. Ugh... Maybe we need more DB's instead.

Yup, I'm noticing that too. Hope we come through too.
McKinney and Stron still on the board as well.

popanot 05-01-2015 06:59 PM

TEXANS have traded up w/CLE to pick #43!!

Arky 05-01-2015 07:01 PM

Texans on the clock!

Roy P 05-01-2015 07:01 PM

The Panthers trade up for Benjamin's clone - Funches. Twin towers theory. Makes my strategy for Jesse James & Blake Bell seem legitimate. ......The Texans traded up.....can't wait to see for who and how much we gave up.

Roy P 05-01-2015 07:03 PM

Lost a 4th and 6th. Gained a 7th from Cleveland.
The Falcons select Jalen Collins (not one of my guys)

chuck 05-01-2015 07:08 PM

I like this guy a lot.

Roy P 05-01-2015 07:08 PM

I am okay with Bernardick McKinney. Needed the ILB. Stephone Anthony was gone, so that was the 2nd best option. He can play OLB too.

Arky 05-01-2015 07:08 PM

Oy, guess the plan is to hold the opposition to zero points every game and kill 'em with FG's....

Offense..... gots to do something about that offense....

Radio saying the Texans have no 4th round pick tomorrow....

popanot 05-01-2015 07:09 PM

BOB isn't screwing around. He wants to kill with defense.

barrett 05-01-2015 07:14 PM

I just searched this guy to see who he is since I don't follow the draft as much as you guys. It was interesting to me that on the NFL.com draft profile that came up it lists for every prospect an NFL comparison. For Benardrick it lists Brian Cushing.

But we've also got a Savage offense !

Roy P 05-01-2015 07:16 PM

I think offense is coming. ..Rashad Greene, Jesse James, Blake Bell, a RB (Zach Zenner) and maybe Ty Montgomery.

painekiller 05-01-2015 07:21 PM

I'm not happy with the picks we gave up for a 2 down ILB, who can be schemed off the field by going to a spread. He is a thumper, but he is not good in pass coverage.

Roy P 05-01-2015 07:21 PM

Pick 46 is in...

I'm amazed that Eli Harold, Eric Rowe, Jalen Strong, and Jake Fisher are still available.

I feel you. That's why I have been advocating for the likes of Ben Heeney, Jake Ryan, and Bryce Hager. He is a guy who could be an OLB on 3rd down and he's versatile enough to play 3 downs....not to be used in Coverage.

The nfl.com draft analysis says he is able to turn and run with big TEs in pass coverage. So might be pretty good.

I think the question is who played on third down last year and is McKinney potentially better than he is.

Not that I have seen all his games, but not from what I saw. He was good moving forward, not backwards.
