The cuts, final roster, p-squad - 2014
Heard on the radio Joe Adams, Sidbury, Lemon, Mertile and some others have been cut. Still waiting for an official list to come out....

OL David Queensbury to IR, non football injured list. Seems four more by 3 PM tomorrow. Perhaps some of these will be picked up by other teams? or even come back on practice squad. Wonder if we will pick up someone cut by another team? |
One good thing about finishing last in 2013?? We get first dibs on waivers. Should be interesting over the next few days/weeks if anyone worthwhile and reasonably priced gets cut.

Also players with 4 seasons under their belt are not subject to the waiver and become FA available to anyone. |
My understanding is the same as kravix. We are No. 1 on the waiver wire through week 4. Also, I heard on the radio this morning that Indy and K.C. (the last 2 teams to pick No.1) claimed 12 and 11 guys respectively off the waiver wire. No idea if we'll pick up anywhere near that many, but this does indicate that the waiver wire may have a much bigger impact on this year's roster than I was anticipating.

found this also on eHow -
From early July through December, the claiming period lasts for just 24 hours. If two or more teams claim a player, the team with the higher priority in the waiver system gets the player. so down to 3 cuts to go, this one kind of expected.
placed S Lonnie Ballantine on IR, raw skills , . |

Texans are down to 75 after waving three today.
OLB Paul Hazel, OL Conor Boffeli and WR Anthony McClung. Now 22 more need to be waived/cut/moved by 4PM Saturday. Then practice squad of 10 rather than 8 this year. Several good players but no big surprises in this first round of cuts, but this next round will llikely have several tough choice surprises. |
Hearing rumors/tweets/radio talk that Labhart, Boswell, Starling and Potter have been cut. Too bad on Labhart. Maybe they hope to get him on the PS.... let the young guy develop......
|
Cuts so far:
FB Toben Opurum WR Travis Labhart TE Zach Potter OT Mike Farrell OLB Quentin Groves S Jawanza Starling K Chris Boswell http://houston.cbslocal.com/2014/08/...53-man-roster/ I'm also hoping Labhart is on the practice squad. I thought Groves played fairly well but he is 30 so I can understand them going with a younger guy with more upside. |

I am absolutely thrilled that Brandon Harris got his pink slip. First, of course, because he's terrible. Second, I think this shows that BOB is not beholden to Rick Smith's pride if in fact Rick Smith had anything much to do with the drafts during the Kubiak years. The 2011 draft yielded JJ of course but otherwise was a master class in ineptitude, particularly because they were trying hard to rectify their secondary situation and ended up with a bunch of stiffs, one a second-round stiff. I'm not at all sure that Brooks Reed isn't a stiff, either, but at the end of the day they may find themselves with two second round fails and that simply cannot happen to a good team.
Anyway, Harris is gone and we don't have to watch him suck anymore. Other teams with pole position on the waiver wire have taken ten players or more which is an incredible number of new guys to inject into a system the week before the season begins. But it could be a very smart thing to do if there's value out there, and there surely will be. I just hope the brain trust sees and identifies it. Really, how they play the waiver wire should tell us an awful lot about whether the tandem of BOB and Rick Smith will be worth a damn going forward. I'm not demanding that they go out and grab a dozen players you understand, although if there are a dozen guys released better than anyone on our roster (a very real possibility) then I'm ok with the inevitable growing pains. But I don't see how they could fail to upgrade the secondary, ILBs, OT depth and maybe even the kicker. |
DL Ricardo Mathews and LB Chris McAllister have also been cut.

More:
WR Lacolton Bester WR Uzoma Nwachukwu TE Anthony Denham C James Ferentz OG Bronson Irwin OG Alex Kupper OT Matt Feiler DE Keith Browner DE Julius Warmsley ILB Max Bullough ILB Chris Young CB Marcus Williams |
Im surprised they let Bullough go.
Eric Winston released from Seattle. Is it possible he gets another shot here? |

It's the curse of being the NFLPA president. Last one on a roster was Kevin Mawae in 2009. |
Here. Is a list of most cuts by all NfL teams as get to 53.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...ker-down-to-53 So any names we should try to pick up on waiver wire? |
@RapSheet: Ryan Mallett has been traded to the #Texans, source says
@taniaganguli: Confirmed the #texans have traded for Ryan Mallett. They get a 6th round pick. |
And first two waiver wire claims which go to 53 man roster , so two more cuts.
It begins RT @MikeGarafolo: Texans working the waiver wire. Claimed OT Jeff Adams from the Titans. Could be Joe? — Dave Zangaro (@DZangaro) August 31, 2014 Another former #49ers player claimed: CB Darryl Morris claimed by the #Texans, I'm told. Usually means deep SF roster |
@ChronBrianSmith: Appears initial media reports of #Texans sending sixth-round pick were incorrect. #Texans give up conditional 2016 7th rounder for Mallett
|
Morris is a second-year CB. He signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Texas State and started the 2013 season on the practice squad before getting signed to the roster last September. He was in the running for their nickelback spot this camp.
Jeff Adams is a tall (6-7, 305) OT who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from Columbia in 2012. He's spent time in/on the Cowboys, Bengals, Dolphins, and Titans camps and practice squads. He played left tackle in college and at Tennessee. |
|
They've also claimed WR/PR Damaris Johnson. He was with the Eagles for the last two seasons after signing with them as an undrafted free agent out of Tulsa. He's a little guy (5-8, 175) and didn't see much time on offense after Chip Kelly took over. Johnson had a 98-yard punt return for a TD in 2012 but it looks like he also makes some bad decisions on returns. The Texans let Mike Thomas go to make room for him.
They're also expected to cut Chris Clemons and re-sign Danieal Manning. |
I was hoping they would call Andy Reids bluff and sign Tyler Bray off waivers. Reid claimed the QB was injured and heading to IR. Spontaneously.
Oh well. |
Looks like guys Texans signed to practice squad are
Travis Labhart Max Bullough, Keith Browner, Anthony Denham, Matt Feller, James Ferentz, Alex Kupper, EZ Nwachukwu, Toben Opurum, and Marcus Williams. |
I'm a little surprised the practice squad is completely made up of guys from their camp rather than mixing in some new players for a look. It probably won't stay that way, though.
The Rams claimed Case. |

Best of luck to Case.

****** This guy had a solid Preseason here in Houston, so no surprise that another team also noticed. Congrats to Ricardo for landing a job after being released by the Texans. |
I guess everyone knows by now that Daniel Manning has been resigned at Strong Safety. Welcome back. He is 32 now.
After being an FA and spending offseason with Cincinnati. Then Chris Clemons was released. I guess Keo and Pleasant contribute on special teams. |
Anybody else wondering about keeping Ronnie Brown, a very old vet and the 4th running back on our roster, instead of others who were maybe more talented and certainly younger prospects.

Some roster moves today:
Quote:
|
Nix has been put on IR. Veteran DT Ryan Pickett signed to take his place.
|
Pickett was a first rnd pick of St. Louis in 2001 and then to Green Bay from 2006-2013. So now at 34, should provide a big body and good experience on DL.
Also added Chris Boswell , K/PT to practice squad since Lechler has a sprained hip or something? |
Busy day: Texans say goodbye to Keo, welcome back to Labhart.
