Official Texans vs. Jaguars Game Thread, 11/24/2013

The 1-9 Jacksonville Jaguars come to Reliant this Sunday to take on the 2-8 Texans. The Jags are coming off a home loss of 27-14 to the Arizona Cardinals. The Texans are coming off a home loss of 28-23 to the Oakland Raiders.

TV = CBS (channel 11 local), Sunday, noon CST

Announcers = Bill Macatee, Steve Tasker, Steve Beuerlein (the "Z" team) ;)

The line = Texans by 10 to 11.5

I'm wondering do we really want to loose this game? If we lose out we then have the #1 pick? But who si that pick?

To me picking top 5 in this draft get us a good player but outside of Clowney and Matthews, does the guy really help us? I'm not seeing the "it" QB just yet. And can you imagine Clowney and Watt coming off the ends?

Unlike last year, I thought this was supposed to be a really good Draft for QBs ?
Anyway, in our remaining games we've got Denver & NE here, Indy & Tenn on the road, with 2 games vs the Jags. I think we should win the game Sunday, but have doubts about the road game in FLA especially with a short week for NFLNet game on a Thursday night. So we could easily end up 3-13.

I think it is. There just isn't a consenus #1 QB or even a guy who is much better at #1 than what you get at #5.

HPF Bob 11-21-2013 09:01 AM

Jacksonville will almost certainly take a QB since Gabbert has been a bust and Chad Henne is not the answer. Right now, the consensus is Bridgewater or Mariota (if he comes out) and I'm not ga-ga about either one although I think Bridgewater is the better prospect.

What scares me about Mariota is he'll be coming out of a spread offense (just like Keenum) and seems to save his worst performances for his biggest games.I think he and Manziel would both be smart to spend another year in college rather than being so hasty about turning pro.

Definitely, the QB class with Luck/Griffin/Tannehill was better than this one.

I never thought we'd be able to draft Clowney but he hasn't been helping his stock this season which might also be a red flag. I think somebody has given him some bad advice about protecting himself this season so he isn't injured for the draft and he's been half-assing all year. Dude has off-the-charts ability and he's from McNair's alma mater so we'd probably take him if he's there but I worry if he isn't a baller and gets complacent with a fat contract.

Back to the Jags, I think they are still playing hard but, without Blackmon, teams can just fill the box and stop Gary Coleman. They have some nice receiving weapons (Shorts, Lewis) but Henne probably still has nightmares from the last time he played against J.J. Swatt.

And I'll bet the Texans still have nightmares from their last meet-up with Henne when he took them into OT at Reliant last year.
Do we win Sunday and split with the Jags, sweep them, or do they sweep us in our upcoming games with them ? Frankly, with this season I have no clue
and none of those scenarios would surprise me in this year of 2013.

Nconroe 11-21-2013 01:52 PM

I'd like to see Keenum progress a little , less fumble turnovers, longer drives if longball not there.

Nconroe 11-22-2013 02:40 PM

Sounds like Kareem Jackson out Sunday. And Texans picked up a 3 year CB Justin Rogers off waivers from Buffalo.

Nconroe 11-22-2013 06:05 PM

Find it interesting Texans defense is still ranked no. 1 in total defense and passing defense with yds/game metric.

I call that the very definition of "snakebit". If both your offense and defense rank in the Top 10, you should at least be .500 and probably better.

BigBull 11-23-2013 01:14 PM

I think stats are overrated, and I think the Texans season proves it.

Makes me think of the year Nolan Ryan led the National League in strikeouts and earned run average but his W-L record was 8-17.

Warren 11-23-2013 09:20 PM

The -11 turnover differential (tied for 29th) helps explain it. We know all too well about the offense's pick 6s, but the defense has been particularly unopportunistic as only two teams have fewer takeaways.

Ya, 2-5 record in games decided by a touchdown or less is another. The other 3 games (Ravens, 49'ers, Rams) were very large losses when Schaub was still at QB. Oddly, despite the lopsided scores, the Texans won total yards and time of possession in all three games..... Weird stuff...

Just need one guy to step up and make a play during crunch time.... So far, no takers....

Redzone problems on both sides of the ball is another......

Arky 11-24-2013 01:09 PM

nunusguy 11-24-2013 01:28 PM

JJ (our CB) really played well last week, and is off to the same kind of start today except that was a nice little push on that long-pass OOBs he got away with. Wonder if we can afford to keep him next year ?

Arky 11-24-2013 01:41 PM

Tate looks like crap today.... not 100% or something....

BigBull 11-24-2013 01:42 PM

I've come to the conclusion that even if Keenum plays well the rest of the season the Texans need to draft a qb in the first round that is tall enough to ride the roller coasters at an amusement park.:)

Arky 11-24-2013 01:45 PM

Henne is sacked by Mercilus! Loss of 6. 2nd and 16 coming up.

Henne pressured by Mercilus again throws the ball into the ground drawing the flag for grounding. Makes it 3rd and 25 coming up.

Screen to Shorts goes nowhere, maybe gain of 1. Jags to punt.

Martin brings the punt back to midfield. Texans ball.

BigBull 11-24-2013 01:48 PM

Arky 11-24-2013 02:02 PM

The ensuing kickoff goes out of the endzone, touchback. Texans ball at their 20.

---------------------------------

Pass over the middle to Graham goes inc. Texans to punt.

Sanders brings the punt back to the Jag 40. 7:27 left in the half.

barrett 11-24-2013 02:04 PM

Keenum is going to get a steady dose of blitzes the rest of the year unless he can figure out how to beat it or we can remember how to run it.

Big Texas 11-24-2013 02:06 PM

This team is getting worse every week. If that is not an indictment of coaching I don't know what is.

Arky 11-24-2013 02:07 PM

Pass to MJD goes for about 14.

MJD for 2. 2nd and 8 coming up.

Todman goes for 5.

On 3rd and 3, Henne is sacked by Watt! Loss of 7. Jags to punt.

Punt goes into the endzone, Texans ball at their 20.

HPF Bob 11-24-2013 02:10 PM

Well, Keenum has had good first halves and we lose. Maybe he'll have a good second half and we'll win. Trying to stay positive here. The Texastros look like they are shooting for the #1 pick.

BigBull 11-24-2013 02:11 PM

This has to be one of the most unwatchable games I've ever watched.

Our running game is ridiculous.

I don't believe the blitz recognition by Keenum is that bad. His eyes are constantly down field. I think that those are some well developed blitzes. The hot routes are covered and the blitz is on him in literally 2-3 seconds.

This is more of a playcalling problem than a blitz recognition. Predictability on the part of Kubiak. They have only been bringing 4, maybe 5 guys.

BigBull 11-24-2013 02:12 PM

That was a nice run by DJ.
