Official Texans vs. Jaguars Game Thread, 1/2/2011
This could seriously damper my Patrick Peterson hopes.....maybe
From PFT: David Garrard out for Jaguars’ season finale Posted by Michael David Smith on December 29, 2010, 12:05 PM EST The Jacksonville Jaguars’ long odds of making the playoffs just got longer. Jaguars quarterback David Garrard will have surgery on his right middle finger tomorrow, and he’ll miss Sunday’s season finale against the Texans, the Florida Times-Union reports. That means the Jaguars will go with Trent Edwards as the starter, with Todd Bouman backing him up, 1010XL Sports Radio in Jacksonville reports. In order to make the playoffs, the Jaguars have to beat the Texans and hope the Colts lose to the Titans. |
AKA "trINT Edwards"? Lovely. But don't worry. We've been punked by backup quarterbacks before. Happens all the time. In fact, it happened just last week.
|
TV = CBS (Channel 11 local), 3:15pm, Sunday
Announcers = Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf Opening line = Jag by 2.5 Current line = pickem to Jags by 2.5 Walter of walterfootball.com like the Texans in this matchup and makes a good point about the Jags: Quote:

Jacsonville will still bring their defense - unfortunately, so will we. Same result as last week, different method.
|
Texans now a 2.5 to 3 pt favorite - I suppose because of no Garrard or (probably) MJD.
|
Kubiak and Schaub will do just enough to see that we ..............LOSE!? After all we have to protect our position in the Draft SB. Arrrggghhh! And there is no real assurance there will even be a draft.

that since players when drafted in the annual NFL April Draft aren't initially members of the players union, and therefor aren't subject to the CBA until sometime subsequent to being drafted, probably when they sign their contract. Therefor this years Draft will be held as scheduled ? |
The contract year, IIRC, ends the last day of February every year and the player draft is a part of the CBA. Even if the players aren't technically NFLPA members until after the draft, there would likely be lawsuits as to whether a post-CBA draft would be legally binding without the sanction of the CBA which serves to work around the anti-trust laws.
For example, Player A loves the Cowboys but hates the Giants. Subsequently, Player A gets drafted by the Giants this April. The Cowboys decide to poach Player A with a contract which the player signs because he's "always wanted to be a Cowboy". With a CBA, the player is bound to play in the NFL only with the team that selected him in the draft with the blessing of the NFLPA. Without a CBA, Player A (or the Cowboys) might argue that he's actually a free agent since there is no contract that binds him to the results of the draft. If this went before a judge or the NLRB, they would likely rule that the player is a free agent and can play for whomever he wants since there is no CBA establishing the legality of the player draft whose primary purpose is to eliminate the leverage that the player has in shopping his services to the highest bidder. My feeling is that the NFL will try to move up the draft to February, while there is still a CBA, so that the draft is legal unless the CBA specifically states that the draft must be held after March 1st each year. |
.....And of course the NFl couldn't allow a rookie player to just play for whomever they want to (or grew up with), now could they?
For the sake of this discussion, let us say the Draft was to be held sometime before March 31st, OK? The NFLPA would go screaming to a judge and get a restraining order claiming the right of a player to play for whomever he chooses. Now we are back to square one, aren't we? |
Do ya'll want Texans to win this last game of very disapppointing 2010-11 season or not?
Always good to play to win right? or is a better to see all the younger backup players and prepare for draft pick more important? whenever draft might be. Seems lot of guys injured on both teams and some coaching changes coming for Texans next week for sure. |

They will hold the draft in February, this will hurt the scouts job of judging juniors that declare, and it will hurt player that are hurt. Everyone will be in the same boat, and the teams with the best scouting departments should be the winners in this off season. |
Take this as you may, .........Jones-Drew is also out for the game.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slu...ars-jones-drew I say we have a 50/50 chance now. I still, personally, want the Texans to lose in hopes of Kubiak finally getting axed and all while improving our draft spot. The hell with this season! |
pre-season game to me. Lose and we might get a better draft pick. Win and we might get a better draft pick.
I just look forward to chuck's comments. |

And without time to evaluate better, the undergrads coming out, the draft if it were to be held would be what we called in the Marine Corp a cluster f**k! |
I hope there's plenty of booing today when the inevitable f'ups occur. Just ridiculous McNair is bringing back this POS HC and staff.
