Short of trading their top pick for multiple mid-round picks, OT is a real possibility for the #22 given the uncertainty they have with Brown at LT this year and even if he's completely healthy he's getting to be a vet who's been around quite awhile now so it's time anyway to start grooming a replacement especially with us now having a really big investment at QB.

By all appearances, Hackenberg will be lucky to be drafted. Considering that and the fact we signed Osweiler, I wouldn't burn a pick on Hack until very late in the draft, if at all. In fact, I think the worst thing we could do is draft a QB (certainly one fairly early) this year and have all the fickle fans calling for him at the slightest hint of a struggle from Osweiler. Might be better off going with Savage, a vet or a late RD QB for this year and let Os have his day without rookie QB crap hanging over his shoulder.

I agree totally. Hack has not shown anything in two years. He might have been better served transferring somewhere that the offense better served him and showing he was not a one year wonder, freshman year no less. As of now, OB does not have to draft a "franchise" QB early, and that will hurt Hack with the Texans.

I cannot say how many mocks I have done where a solid QB is available and I have walked right past him to a position of higher need. If you want to a flyer on a QB late in the draft, a fifth or later, then I am good with that. I love Adams from Oregon as a UDFA, to give you a camp arm.

The biggest issue I see is reps. The team is going to want to get OS as many reps as possible in OTAs and camp, and they want to hold on to Hoyer to possibly trade to a team that gets hit with an injury for some kind of value. And you have to get him reps, along with Savage. He needs reps. So how can you develop a young guy with no reps.

Also I would not be surprised if they keep Hoyer as a veteran backup. It would give Os another QB to talk to on the sideline and in the room.

I think keeping Hoyer is a good strategy. We could do far worse at backup QB and it's not like he's all that expensive. I think he'd be good for Os to have around. If they don't feel Savage has a future, then by all means draft a guy like Adams, Hogan or Driskell, etc. late in the draft. I'd rather a have Hoyer and a rookie prospect than hang onto Savage who has zero experience to help out and likely has no starting future.

This is a solid list in the 2nd 3rd 4th rounds.

Got my Brown insurance, future OT in Conklin, which gives me more versatility along the line, in that same vain I took Martin, and guy that can play OG or OC.

In the 2nd and 4th I took two DTs that can play either NT or 3-4 DE. Both are solid against the run. And showed well at the Senior Bowl in one on ones.

Grabbed both RBs from Arkansas, why not keep them pushing each other, one is a scat back, choppy runner and one is more of a power back. (Maybe time for Blue to move on).

If all Cyrus Jones did on this team was return punts than he would be a steal, but he also is money covering the slot receiver.

Listenbee is a speedster on the outside. And Cayleb Jones is big bodied guy with solid hands. Also has some baggage in his distant past.

Added size and speed to the roster, added guys that can make plays, added some meanness to the OL. Not a bad draft IMO.

If they intend to keep Hoyer, then they won't draft a QB but I would rather release or trade him and use the cap savings to bring back Jared Crick.

As far as Hackenberg, I'm simply responding to the mutual admiration
O'Brien and Hackenberg have for each other and the belief he will flourish here better than anywhere else.

You don't want someone who directly competes against Ossie this year but someone who can step in if he gets injured or falters. I don't see last year's starter as being the guy for that.

I don't believe Hoyer is on the roster by the start of OTAs. But the league is so QB starved that trying to get a low draft pick for him is smart right now.

Particularly because we know what that gets us, which is not much. Or certainly not enough. Hoyer is too expensive and potentially too distracting to be the backup I think. And barrett is right, he will find a place in the league and if the Texans can squeeze a 6th or a 7th for him and get his salary off the books then that would be a triumph. The offense will go as far as BO takes it. I have no idea where that will be but I don't see any real point in having a Hoyer over a Savage at backup if a Hoyer is that much more expensive.

I can't remember a year where the mocks were so all over the place with the top five or six quarterbacks. You guys have seen all the mocks, too, and many of you have played with the various lists for your own mocks. It's amazing how one perfectly credible mock will have QB X at 2 overall and another perfectly credible mock will have him at 12 or 22 or whatever. I really thought that by now we'd start to get some clarity and consensus among the mocks but we haven't. Hell, no one even knows what Tennessee's going to do. For me it's far more enjoyable than usual.

Here's an Easter mock which includes a trade down with Carolina. This used the "With The First Pick" board. Still, a bit disappointed with what it produced.
