Texans run for 1. Dump to Graham gets about 12 and the 1st down. Dump to J Johnson puts the ball at the Saints 22. 2nd and 4 coming up. Pass to Casey goes for the TD but they call the pick on Graham. Moves the ball back to the Saints 32. Short gain to Casey brings up 3rd and 10. Deep pass to JJ inc but roughing the passer on the Saints. Half the distance, 1st down at the 13. |

Saints are kneeling it out. Final Score: Saints 38, Texans 20 Back to the drawing board... |
Not a good effort but...this just in...Saints are a good team. I think they won something last year.
|
Some of the stats that stick out to me:
Time of possession: Saints 40:00, Texans 20:00 Saints rushing: 198 yards. Saints 3rd down conversions: 8/16 (Texans just 1/8) Saints 4th down conversions: 3/3 (Texans 0/1) (Coach Payton, did you really need those 1st downs?) Brees was just 5/10 for 36 yards - no TD's, no INT's. Backup Chase Daniel ate us up going 15/21 for 182 yards and 3 TDs, 1 Int. Saints looked in mid-season form, Texans looked like bumblers but it's all good - they need to find this stuff out in the pre-season and get it together. It will be interesting to see if they can rebound against Dallas. I feel bad for Holliday but they may have discovered some new return men tonight.... |

Just curious, but how did K.Jackson look?

He also flashed on some of the run plays. Overall a solid showing from him. As for the rest of the game, I am disgusted as heck, but again I remind myself that it is preseason and no one appeared to get hurt. I would rather have a flat game now, then during the season. This game did not matter and some of the guy appeared to be playing not to get hurt, and we did play pretty vanilla defense. I do think our team philosophy of small and quick was exposed tonight on both sides of the ball. |

No excuses for looking that bad though, but Texans seemed to be trying to evaluate different combinations of players and plays while Saints seemed to be interested in showing they could win tonight. Looked like Saints actually game planned for a practice game. And Chase Daniels looked really good tonight. Actually, Orlovsky looked much better tonight than previously, maybe he'll be ok as backup now. Troy Nolan looked good again towards end of game. |
