Anyone think he might be targeted for RT instead of G?

I think we draft another OL...somebody with quicker feet to play RT...wish I had all the 3-Cone drill times on the OT's left on the board.

HPF Bob 04-27-2012 09:12 PM

I know you guys won't like the suggestion but wouldn't a Jacoby-for-Colt McCoy deal make sense? Weeden gets another weapon and the Texans get a #2 QB behind Schaub with starting experience and local roots.

WMH 04-27-2012 09:16 PM

#Texans 3rd-rd pick Brandon Brooks started 41 games at Miami (OH)- 15 at LG, 14 at LT, 12 at RG -- Nick Scurfield (@NickScurfield)

Brandon Brooks: "blessing" to be drafted by #Texans. Said he's versatile, can play any position on OL. -- Houston Texans (@HoustonTexans)

HPF Bob 04-27-2012 09:24 PM

ESPN is now providing more overkill on Russell Wilson. Geez.

Roy P 04-27-2012 09:32 PM

OK...it looks like I was going to be "reaching" for Mosely at RT. So, now I am wondering if he's there & if we take him in the 4th? Do we go for ILB like Travis Lewis or Keenan Robinson? Will we grab a DB?

PFW says Brooks lacks a mean streak.

Tell that to the scout lackey from his pro day workout in this video.

Hopefully not getting invited to the combine will put one in him.

I'll be fascinated to see if they intend to play him at RG or RT.

I really like the draft so far. Posey could have been rated a lot higher but for 10 game suspension. 6'2" 211 lbs, he had a great interview on 610.

Brooks seems like fantastic measureables, road grader, could be great as he matures.

Three picks in fourth should be fun tomorrow.

I like Randle better than those 3. He did deal with a terrible qb in Jordan Jefferson and Lee as well. I do like Toon, Jones, and T.Y. Hilton intrigues me.

A mystery offensive lineman taken in the 3rd round... no one gettin a Seth Wand vibe here?

No? Ok, good. Move along. :p

TheMatrix31 04-27-2012 11:33 PM

Hopefully this Posey guy isn't as low-character as it seems.

Jim Tressel vouches for his character...

I may be powerfully naive but this guy's transgressions don't really bother me that much. He made some mistakes, sure, but it's not like he was selling drugs out of his dorm room or he beat up his girlfriend.

Seriously. He sold memorabilia.

Tressel lying and covering things up from his morals pedestal was the only one I had a problem with in that whole scenario.

CBS Sports analysis of Posey:

Quote:

Positives: Good quickness off the line. Has size and quickness to get off NFL press. Generally reliable receiver capable of making difficult catches in traffic over the middle or one on one down the sideline. Adjusts to poor throws in any direction. Finds his way through traffic on crossing routes. Comes back to the ball to help his scrambling quarterback. Gives effort as a blocker on run plays. Negatives: Inconsistent high-pointing passes. Allows too many throws into his body when facing the quarterback. Does not own elite speed. Freezes at times when trying to juke defenders in space. Walls off his man as a blocker, allowing them to shed and make the play outside.

HPF Bob 04-28-2012 10:16 AM

CBS Sports analysis of Brooks:

Quote:

Strengths: Possesses a physically imposing frame with broad shoulders and a wide base - big body with a strong, thickly built frame. Has good natural strength and raw power with the ability to be a mauler in the run game. Plays with a firm base with a stout anchor, holding his ground at the point of attack. Keeps his pad level low and flashes consistent leverage. Stays balanced and patient in his stance. Has overpowering upper body strength to overwhelm and eliminate defenders from the play - jolts with his hands and shows a strong initial push. Quick off the snap and moves well for his size. Offers versatility with experience at left tackle and both guard spots. Has very good starting experience as a four-year starter (42 career starts) and was honored as a Second Team All-MAC performer three-years in a row (2009-11).

Weaknesses: Has some bad weight on his frame and has added over 60 pounds since he enrolled at Miami (OH) - something that needs to be monitored. Carries a lot of weight and it shows at times, looking sluggish with heavy feet when trying to cover a lot of ground. Doesn't have great range and wasn't asked to do a lot of pulling for the Redhawks. Doesn't always explode off the snap. Heavy-handed in pass protection with a bad habit of grabbing, which attracts holding penalties. Will allow his body to rise at times and he is caught too high. Needs to improve his awareness and overall vision to pick up extra rushers. Needs to stay disciplined and play smart, cutting down on the penalties and mental lapses. Has an inconsistent mean streak and needs to develop more of a finishing attitude - too much of a passive blocker for his size
Hmm. I can see some Seth Wand similarities although more experienced at a higher competition level. Sounds like a guy that really needs to be pushed both on and off the field (and away from the cafeteria).

JMHO. It's sort of the Mike Wallace vs. Antonio Brown syndrome. They're both great players, and one team might prefer Wallace's straight-line speed and another team might prefer Brown's all-around style. I think the Texans need a Brown-type WR as opposed to a Wallace-type WR (atlthough, I'll take anything to upgrade what we have now).

Let's not get caught up in semantics here. I didn't say you thought Hill would be a bust, only that Hill would be a better Pro. I just think you are wrong on that score.
