Fassano blindsided McCain there on that 3rd down conversion. Absolutely blew him up on a pick play and no penalty.
|
I'm trying to figure out that last time out.
|
Charles for 1.
Charles for 4. 3rd and 5 coming up. Pass is complete to Bowe for 14 yards. Offsides on E Reed is declined. 1st down. Charles for 1. On 2nd and 9, pass to Avery gets 5. 3rd and 4 coming up. 2 minute warning, Texans out of timeouts. |

I just went back and watched it again and am in shock there was no offensive PI. Fassano actually lowers his shoulder on the play and decleats McCain. All right in front of the official.
|
McCain made a play. I'm in shock.
|
On 3rd and 4, Smith's pass is broken up, inc. Chiefs have to punt.
Chiefs down the punt at the Texan 10. Texans ball with 1:46 left in the game. |
Keenum is starting to fade backwards out of the pocket in anticipation of pressure.
|
Keenum's pass to Graham is broken up, inc. 2nd and 10 coming up.
Oh no, Keenum sacked and stripped, fumbles, Chiefs recover. Chiefs ball at the Texan 1. Chiefs kneeling it out. Final Score: Chiefs 17, Texans 16 |
Ok, pretty good effort Case.
|
Great effort from Keenum. He made me care again after determining I wouldn't care the rest of the season. And I already can't wait to see him again. If Schaub is given the job back I'll be heartbroken.
|
I'm baffled by the calls on our last 3 or 4 offensive series. Of course, the OL and blocking sucked, but it seemed like Kubiak ran a lot of stuff that left Keenum exposed.
|
Leaving Newton one on one with anyone is mind bending stupidity, with Hali it's just criminal.
|
I think Kubiak mismanaged his timeouts and play calling at the end was bad.

Case did good. Needs to work on his pocket awareness but loved the performance overall.

It's interesting to criticize play calling when we basically have no idea what the plays were. I don't think we ever saw the routes the last few series since Keenum was getting buried. If I could criticize anything coaching wise it would be the lack of audibles we call. Or kicking a FG on the goal line.
But if Case fails to see where the blitz is coming from, fails to get the ball out, and the OL blocks nobody, that is not a play call issue. On many of those plays they just brought more guys than we had blockers. That will happen when you have no RBs and cannot run the ball to keep a team honest (the other huge coaching error, how do you not have a 3rd RB when Foster enters the game dinged). Plus your QB has no reps with the WRs and no established connection that would allow them to break off routes or go hot. Not to mention the world's loudest stadium. I just think we got beat today because we are not a very good football team. |
Congrats to Keenum on his NFL debut, he exceeded any expectations I had for him in this game by a huge, huge margin.

Let's not forget that just a couple years ago a rookie QB started his first game on the road against a pretty good team. He threw for 300 yards and 2 TDs and won the game. His name was T.J. Yates. |

@JayGlazer: Just got a text from Brian Cushing. Tough man! Broke his leg & tore his LCL, out for year. Says he will kill his rehab & come back stronger

I'm happy I was wrong about Case. I saw 7-8 plays that he made that Schaub couldn't. That's a lot. I don't see how Kubiak could go back to Schaub, at least for now. Give him two weeks of work, especially hot reads..... Give him a healthy Arian and see what happens. We're the longest of longshots anyway, why not? |
Beat the Colts twice, Jags twice and Titans one more time and go 6-0 in the division..... Maybe even a 9-7 gets it done. Tough but not impossible.
New England will be scary but it is a home game. Denver in Week 16 may be in "coast mode".... |

This all said, after the bye week, this team has a much easier schedule on paper, and I expect them to recover. Schaub does give you a better shot today to win, but I would still go with Case for the immediate future. |

Agree that Case should be the starter going forward. I'm just not sold quite yet. He needs to do more than outplay 2013 Schaub to declare the QB decision settled going forward.
Plus, someone has to be the pessimistic old crank. Usually that's Chuck but he's turned into a little ray of sunshine.:D |
WMH, barrett and chuck join hands and sing Kumbaya.
I sure hope the team starts winning so we can all go back to being annoyed with each other again. |
And Joshua joins the group adding tenor harmony.

I am personally very happy because I cut all ties with this season and am blindly optimistic our next coach will be the new Bill Walsh crossed with Bellichik and our next QB will be the next Tom Brady to combat Luck's Manning impression. |
Case Keenum was solid in his NFL debut, a 17-16 loss at Kansas City, but he didn’t change coach Gary Kubiak’s mind about the starting position.
“Matt’s our starting quarterback,” Kubiak said of the veteran Schaub. “Case played this week.” Kubiak said he would re-evaulate the position during the Texans’ bye week. Keenum went 15-of-25 for 271 yards and a touchdown in his debut. His quarterback rating of 110.6 was higher than any of Schaub’s this season. “Players responded well to Case,” Kubiak said. “They were very confident with him, and it came from the week of practice.” Schaub sat Sunday’s game with a foot/ankle injury. “Matt and (backup) T.J. (Yates) did a good job helping prepare Case to get ready to play,” Kubiak said. |
