Eheh, I'm ready for some bombs away in the rain... :p |
KC to punt. Nice return by Darnell Jenkins. 10 yds? But penalty on the play...
Texans ball at their own 23. |
Texans go 3 and out and have to punt.
But Turk runs it for the 1st down! Still Texans ball.... Grossman out. :( O back in. Texans to punt. |
Wow. Turk fumbles and runs for the first down so Kubes puts Orlovsky back in when he had pulled him for Grossman.
|
Turk's punt rolls out at the KC 24.
Thigpen scrambles for a 1st down... Illegal use of the hands penalty gives KC the ball near the Texan 30. Buster Davis personal foul - hit the QB running out of bounds. KC's ball at the Texan 9. |
KC passes for the 1 yard TD.
Texans 16, Chiefs 10. |
That was an ugly series but I don't really care. Point proven. No matter the final score, we won the game when it mattered.
KC's coach Haley was talking about how important it was to win exhibition games (when you are coming off a two-win season) so expect KC to try to pull this out at the end, even if it means bringing back some starters. |
Chiefs kick off.
Darnell Jenkins nice run back to about the 41. Texans have to punt. Touchback. Chiefs ball at the 20. |
Parsons and Richardson have been looking really young today.
|
really young. I hope for our sake they are not vying for spots on the team starting week 1.
|
Chiefs go 3 and out and punt.
Texans ball at their own 34. About 2 minutes left in the game. Texans go 3 and out. Texans to punt. 1:42 left in the game. |
Texans down the punt at the KC 24.
KC moving the ball - nearing midfield. About 40 secs. left. Pressure from Parson causes backfield fumble - KC recovers. Pittman intercepts on 4th down. Should be a wrap... |
Texans kneel away the clock.
Final Score: Texans 16, Chiefs 10 Some good, some bad and a lot of sloppy (literally).... |

I love that Bawin got that sack against KC's #1 pick last year and 2nd year starter, Brandon Albert. That little fake spin move he did locked Albert's legs all sorts of up as we saw. Definitely a created sack, not a hustle sack. |

Okam, nice to see ya big man. Jacoby Jones is on thin ice. Casey looks like a player, not sure about the other TE Quinn. Dreesen should have a slot. |
Postgame writeup.
http://www.inthebullseye.com/archive/2009/20090815.html Pretty satisfying game for a preseason opener. I keep trying to remind myself that this is the Chiefs, who are opening a new era, with new leadership, a new quarterback, and a new defensive scheme. Even though this came on the road, the weather conditions removed the fans from the game, making it almost a neutral field. But enough realism. Schaub went 7-7! Barwin got a sack! Okam was effective! Chris Brown walked off the field healthy! Hooray! btw, fwiw, Grossman was apparently pulled due to a hamstring injury, not because he looked like ...well... Grossman. |
The chron tweeted some of the postgame injury updates. Severity unknown... stay tuned.

------------ Replays of this game on the NFLN today @ 9am and Monday @ 6am..... Might be some more later in the week but I didn't look that far into it.... |
Barwin's sack was nice, but his play against the run and his smarts in sniffing out screen plays and getting his hands up make me think he can be far more than a situational pass rusher eventually. He may be in his 2nd year at DE, but he is not a project. He's a football player. Just one whose many talents made it hard to find him the best position on the field.
And Bob, let me say that didn't see one ounce of Jason Babin in him. |

The best news is that there were no major injuries and what injuries there were did not happen to key players. Nobody's going on IR due to last night's game. You really have to cross your fingers in bad conditions like that but the field held up remarkably well which tells me George Toma is still on the case there in KC. |
Glover Quin is going to be a beast. Can't believe we got him in the 4th round! 4 Solo tackles last night. MIght he be best suited for that elusive safety spot?
|
I'm hoping they give us more information soon on the injuries to Winston and Adibi. Winston's sprained ankle doesn't sound like it should be more than 2-3 weeks max, but depending on the severity of Adibi's broken finger, that could keep him out for the first week or two of the season....
Edit: Just read that Eric Winston posted on his twitter page that his ankle is fine and that he's "surprised it was even mentioned", so thats definitely good news. |
