No big deal, but Decker clearly did not have control of ball on that TD.

Schaub's best position is fetal. His results were really no different than Keenum's so the question is whether Schaub is now as bad as Keenum or whether Keenum is as good as Schaub.

HPF Bob 12-22-2013 03:26 PM

i think for one quarter the Texans had Denver's offense as stymied as they've looked all season. For three quarters, the Texans also had just one penalty and then the laundry brigade came out at the end as it always seems to do against us.

The Redskins came within seconds of wrapping up our #1 overall pick for us but then they caved. We'll have to earn it next week in Tennessee.

barrett 12-22-2013 04:58 PM

Way to go Shiloh Keo. I am glad that when Denver decided to treat us as a punching bag and throw deep with a 20 point lead and 4 minutes left, at least one guy on our team was bothered enough to attempt to take someone's head off. I really wish Manning had rolled an ankle or something stupid on that drive. It blew my mind they did that, and our guys just took it, and then went and congratulated him after the game. But I guess if we have no respect for ourselves why would the rest of the NFL.

I was seething. I would have rushed every player and taken that redneck's head off and then told Fox Good luck in the playoffs with that 7-foot misfit you have as second-string.

Or, I guess, you can go ahead and defend the play for the hell of it.

HPF Bob 12-22-2013 11:58 PM

Like I said, the Texans are soft and they don't hit back. Kubiak and Phillips both. If there's a team trying to embarrass us, I want us to max blitz all 11 guys and then beat the hell out of their star player after the whistle. There would be fines and maybe a suspension but i guarantee you they won't ever try it again and the entire league will know about it.

I can understand Denver wanted the record but there's one more game left in the season and it could have been done next Sunday when it is legit and then bench Manning the rest of the game. The Broncos, as it turns out, will have to beat the Raiders anyway since a loss means a potential return to Foxboro for an AFC Championship Game they'd rather play at altitude. They probably can't beat McGroin with The Ostrich playing the whole game at QB so they really ran up the score for no valid reason.

Until the Texans get a coach that will hit back, we will always be pushovers. If Rex Ryan gets fired, he may be a schmuck but he knows how to get a group of mediocre players to be tough, play physical and overachieve. Not sure I want that comedy act down here but we could do a lot worse and probably will.

What if he were brought in as Def Cord?

It would take one impressive HC to control a team when Rex Ryan is on the staff. Players absolutely love Rex (he is as immature as they are). Rex as an assistant is a recipe for mutiny even if he is being a good company guy. I'd rather go all in and take him as a HC than have him as an assistant (especially if we have a 1st time NFL HC like O'Brien).

OK fine, welcome to the Shiloh-Bandwagon, I've always been a fan of the overachieving Vandal from the Puget Sound. It was a good pop and can't blame him for being embarrassed and PO'd. But instead why didn't he make that pick in the EZ, or maybe McCain just hang on to that ball which was just begging him to pick it ? Right in his hands ! If so we are still in the game.
Instead the Broncos undrafted, 10-year NFL Vet Mike Adams made a much more difficult play on a ball that wasn't really that poorly thrown by Schaub and single-handedly changed the games momentum. It virtually kissed the sideline and only if rookie WR Hopkins had been more interested in playing football Sunday than sending an Instagram or whatever, he could have stepped into the pass or shielded off the DB.

I was thinking the same thing when I watched the replay. Who's knows which way his momentum was taking him but a veteran receiver would have come back for the ball instead of letting the defender break on him.

I was thinking there were some player mutinys a couplr years with Rex as head coach.

barrett 12-23-2013 10:40 AM

I just expect all the other stuff and am surrendered to it. Manning and John Fox rubbing it in like Brees and Payton was an unexpected insult.

Players hate him when things go bad sometimes because he is brash and obnoxious, but on the whole they love him. Especially defensive players. Lots of defensive players and coaches genuinely hate all offensive guys, even the ones on their own team. Rex as a DC would likely mean half your team disliked and resented the offensive minded HC. Plus Rex would be more concerned as a DC about looking good for his next HC job. I'd role the dice on him as a HC if no great offensive candidate was around, but I wouldn't want him in the #2 role.

Having Rex as the DC here would be exactly like it was when his dad was DC in Houston and I imagine the results would be nearly identical.

Having him as HC, well, I like what Bob said, we could do worse and probably will.

Warren 12-23-2013 04:46 PM

Somebody told me the other day that Rob Ryan had expressed an interest in the Texans job. My response is that I couldn't see Bob McNair hiring somebody that brash and controversial -- it just doesn't fit his image of the what the team should be. Same goes for Rex, except that he has a more acceptable haircut.
