Pass to Sproles gets 10, 1st down.
Brees pass is batted up in the air, inc. Jamison on the block. Pass to Sproles comes up about 1/2 yard short of a 1st down. Makes it 3rd and 1. Ingram gets 3 and the 1st down at the Texan 27. Brees' pass to Graham down the sideline goes for the TD. Texans 26, Saints 24 9:30 left in the game. |
That was a mismatch.....
How's about a nice, long, time consuming TD drive..... Please? |
Now we get to find out if they are the same choke artists as last year or if they've learned how to put a team away.
|
Nice return by D Manning on the kickoff, brings it out to the Texan 34.
Deep pass to JJ is knocked down by the Saints. Makes it 2nd and 10. Schaub is pressured and dump off to Tate goes inc. 3rd and 10 coming up. Schaub's pass is INT'ed by Greer. Saints ball at the Texan 48. |
I give Schaub a D so far in this game. He either throws too low, too high, or he gets intercepted.
And now Brees is chewing us up. |
Pass to Meachem is good for 10 and a 1st down.
Slant to Moore gets about 9. 2nd and 1 coming up. Same play gets 6 or 7 more and a 1st down at the Texan 20. Pass complete for 4 yards. 2nd and 6 coming up. Pass to Sproles goes inc. 3rd and 6 coming up. Brees pass to Moore in the endzone is complete for the TD. Saints are going to go for two.... Pass to Moore gets the 2 pts. Saints 32, Texans 26 |
Looks we are crumbling in the crunch. Saints bringing it up a notch, and the Texans D looks played out.
|
Saints kickoff goes out of the endzone, Texans ball at their 20. 7:10 left in the game.
Tate for no gain. Makes it 2nd and 10 coming up. Pass to OD gets 12 and a 1st down. Dump off to Tate gets 8. 2nd and 2 coming up. Tate for about 1. 3rd and 1 coming up. Timeout Texans with 4:48 left in the game. |
Dump to Casey gets good yardage and a 1st down. Ball is at the Saints 45.
Dump off to OD gets about 15 and a 1st down. Schaub's pass to Casey down the sideline goes inc. 2nd and 10 coming up. Pass to KW gets 11 and the 1st down. Ball at the Saints 20. Whoa! Crazy play..... Holding on Saints, but KW catches the ball that deflects off a couple of guys and runs it in the endzone! TD! Texans 33, Saints 32 4:13 left in the game. C'mon defense, do something! |
Somebody please help Kareem Jackson
|
Boy do we need a stp now
|
We just don't have an answer for Drew Brees passing game. He is eating us alive. C'mon defense.
|
Please keep testing Joseph...I do not mind.
|
I almost wonder whether or not the TD was on purpose.
|
That TD was just to damn easy.
|
Sproles brings the kickoff back to the Saint 25 but block in the back on the Saints, 1/2 the distance to the goal places the ball at the Saints 6.
Quick hitter to Moore goes for 16. Pass to Graham gets 12. Pass to Sproles hits the turf first, inc. 2nd and 10 coming up from the Saints 34. Pass to Sproles gets 11, 1st down. Deep pass to Meachem goes inc. Pass to Meachem deep down the sideline goes inc. Brings up 3rd and 10. 2:54 left in the game. Pass to Graham is complete for good yardage and penalty on the Texans for unnecessary roughness add some more. Ball ends up at the Texan 13. Ingram runs it in for the TD. Saints to go for 2. Same play as before gets the two. Saints 40, Texans 33 2:42 left in the game. There's still time... |
The commentators are getting on my nerves with this Bromance for the Saints.
|
Maybe, but you can see 'ol mo slipping to the Saints.

I hate the way Shaub looks when he has to come back from a deficit.
|
Manning downs the kickoff in the endzone. Texans ball at their 20.
Pass to KW good for 5. 2nd and 5 coming up. Pass to Dreessen goes inc. 3rd and 5 coming up. Pass too tall for Dreessen but flags on the play. PI on Dreessen. Makes it 3rd and 15. Schaub can't find a receiver and gets sacked. Makes it 4th and 21 coming up. |
Well there you have it...we all knew the blitz was coming...you would think a screen or quick dump off would have been the call...there was a lapse in judgement on that call.
|
On 4th and 21, deep pass to AJ is inc. Saints takeover on downs.
Ingram for 3. Ball at the Texan 7. Texans call a timeout. Ingram slips for no gain. Texans use there final timeout. 1:44 left in the game. Ingram gets about 2. Makes it 4th and goal at the Texan 5. Saints to go for the FG with 57 seconds left. FG is good. But flag on the play against the Texans gives the Saints an auto 1st down. Saints kneeling it out. Final score: Saints 40, Texans 33 |
Four field goals did us in from red zone. We had a great game overall though.
|
What I hate about the outcome of this game is not necessarily the loss, but rather the dumb ass headlines...
"Saints rally from a slow start" "Saints put up an excellent second half" "Brees overcomes slow start" Nothing to do with the excellent effort of the Texans... |

Still the same Texans. And how many points did Wade Phillips' defense give up?
|
First half red zone issues came back to bite us a bit.
Not too worried about the yards/points, who really thought we were going to shut them down? Great game, bummer of an outcome. Looking forward to the Steelers game, should be another good one. |
I'm just glad this is not the same old Texans.... they fought hard and almost came away with a win. Phillips defense came away with 2 crucial INTs. It came down to the red zone FGs.... We wont face a better offense than the Saints this season... I'm a believer now
|
Sucks to lose, but I'm "fine" with losing to such a great team with an insane passing attack by only 7 points. Without Foster. WITH Kareem JAckson.
And we lose because we couldn't convert RZ opportunities into TDs. Tough, but last year we would have lost 49-13. Saints are toughest matchup for Houston all year. And it's not a conference game. Sucks that we got jobbed by the refs too. That ATROCIOUS personal foul call on Manning, the horrible O-PI call on Dreesen, and what was a non-call PI on a pass to Andre in the red zone that would have been a TD. |

A competently run team would have won this game by three touchdowns. |
Oh look. Hey Chuck.

Good call Chuck. |
I agree with Chuck. There was nothing 'good' about this loss. A decent team is supposed to show up and do a few things right. A good team needs to do enough things right to win. We were not a good team today.
We got every break we needed. We opened up an early lead. And then we gave it away late. We were up 9 and receiving a punt late in the game when we did this; Blocked in the back to ruin our field position. Tate drops an easy pass that would have gotten us out of the bad field position. Schaub throws an interception. And the rest is history. We may have some fans on here who hate it when we run the ball with a lead because it is not exciting or fantasy-friendly, but before the game I bet Kubiak would have paid any amount for the opportunity to have the ball up 9 late with a chance to put the game away with our running game (which averaged 4.4 yards per carry). But Kubs was feeling the pressure the Saints offense puts on you, so we come out throwing. Totally off script for our team and not how we put teams away. That whole series makes me seriously doubt we are anything different than the team of the last few years that finds a way to lose. Now that team may be good enough to win 10 game and make the playoffs this year, but that was not a good football team today. It was a decent team and a respectable performance, and that anyone can be satisfied with that is sad. |
I commend barrett's post highly. One other thing I'll add is that as good as Tate is and will be there is no comparison between Tate and Foster catching the ball out of the backfield.

Hmmmmmmm....uhhh....and you said my point reflected a pathetic attitude. Pretty sure I mentioned not having Foster being a killer dynamic missing to our offense, especially our red zone offense. Not to mention Slaton backing up Tate today. Both were worthless. As was the OL. How can we do play action, especially in the red zone, when there are no rushers to respect? |
Quote:
The pathetic part had nothing to do with observing we miss Foster. It is about anyone who loses and says "that's ok, those guys are really good." |

Imagine a scale - on end of the scale you have the fans who think the Texans can do no right. On the other end of the scale you have the fans who think the Texans can do no wrong. In reality, it's not that binary - most fans make up the huge middle ground..... -------------- The way I see it: 1. You can't give up 40 pts and expect to win. 2. The defense in the 4th quarter was gassed, the pass rush was non-existant. Brees had all day. 3. Schaub has had better days in the redzone (understatement alert) and very good between the 20's. 4. It doesn't matter what I or anyone thinks. The Texans have to get back to work, fix their issues and go after Pittsburgh in a week.... |
Word it however you want. Being fine with losing when your team gives it away is not 'fine'.
|
Man o man....rewatched some of the 2nd half, KJ had a really rough go of it. Lack of pressure was critical there, but geez, the amount of cushion this kid gives is maddening. I'm assuming he is making up for his lack of speed, but geez.
Speaking of pressure, aside for the Ninja, and a Watt moment, we let Brees get entirely too comfy back there. He's not the easiest sack in the world, but didn't see him having to move around much. Brandon Harris was active today, but I don't recall seeing him on D. Wonder if he gets a look next week? |
