I'm wondering if Syd'Quan Thompson can play FS. He kind of reminds me of the FS for the Bills who had all those interceptions this year. Is Devin McCourty a DB who would strengthen our secondary without using a 1st round pick? Kyle Wilson is a third round steal, a 2nd round value, and a 1st round reach - when will he come off the board? I'm also sort of intrigued by some tall DTs Alex Carrington and Tyson Alualu is a guy that I'm wondering if he's a 1st round pick or a 2nd round steal. Jared Odrick falls in that category too. Could Cam Thomas be drafted in the 4th round to be a NT? Shawn Lauvao from Arizona State looks like a ZBS guy that meets the Texans eyeball test. I have liked Dan LeFevour for 3 years, but we have John David Booty so I'm torn. Is Daryl Washington the WILL we need, assuming we don't use our 1st round pick on Weatherspoon, or are we "set" with Diles, Adibi, or possibly Marcus Freeman? I want to see some more Anthony Dixon to compare him to Ryan Matthews. Still trying to determine why Ben Tate is being projected so late in mocks. Based upon Antoine Caldwell's development, I'm wondering if the Texans would feel comfortable selecting Mike Johnson in the 3rd round.

Kyle Wilson has really impressed me, he can play CB or FS, but I am still seeing him in the 2nd round, maybe late 1st.

My 1st round favorite currently is Mike Iupati, what he would bring to our OL is an attitude, similar to Brown in that regard, but more of large presence in the middle.

Weatherspoon is also looking like a 2nd rounder, would love to get an extra 2nd or two.

Dexter McCluster would be a fun luxury, imagine the mismatches he could become.

I'm wondering if Trent Williams slides and Iupati is drafted first.

In todays game DE Brandon Grahmn of Michigan looks like the second coming of Dwight Freeney.
And how about DT Dan Williams from Tenneesse ? Also very impressive at the game in Mobile today, so he's gonna probably be long gone before our 20th pick.

I would draft DT, OG, or secondary (FS,CB), before I addressed the LB situation again.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe even better against the run.

Mike Iupati was not very impressive at all, wouldn't take him in the first.

Dekoda Watson looks like a steal in the third.

Dan Williams, Lamar Houston, and Odrick all looked good.

Javier Arenas looked slow and undersized.

Blount looked good and Ben Tate looked VERY good, I was suprised by his speed.

T. Mays looked stiff and uncomfortable in man coverage but did have a int.

Zac Robinson looked good in the pocket, as did LeFevour.

Chris Scott looked leaner and impressive.

Tyson Alualu also looked very good.

Weatherspoon was everywhere.

It has to be the right player over the right position. If we just look at 2006, would you take John McCargo, Winston Justice, Kelly Jennings, or DeMeco Ryans? The first three just fit needs, but the guy who would not be a position of need, would make the team better.

nunusguy 01-30-2010 07:28 PM

OK what about this Texans front-line - Mario @ strongside DE, Dan Williams at nose, Antonio Smith playing 3-technique, and Connor Barwin @ weakside DE ?

Very astute observations. Iupati likes to grab instead of moving his feet. Alualu, Odrick, and Weatherspoon were impressive.
Did anyone notice Weatherspoon covering Dexter McCluster in the endzone?

nunusguy 01-30-2010 08:08 PM

No doubt about it Mayocks favorite player this week in Mobile, guard Mike Iupati, was exposed big-time. He's a project as an OT and as a guard he's got a lot of bad habits that won't do in the NFL.

Dan Williams did a very good job of pushing the pocket and holding the point so that there were no running lanes. If we wanted to stop the run, Dan Williams might be our guy. Then again, if we wanted to wait until the 2nd or 3rd round, Cam Thomas for UNC could fill that role.

Looking at possible additions to the OL if we were to use a 1st round pick....

Trent Williams
Height: 6-5 | Weight: 308 | Position:OT
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1123699

Anthony Davis
Height: 6-6 | Weight: 325 | Position:OL
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1272306

Bryan Bulaga
Height: 6-6 | Weight: 312 | Position:OL
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1243680

Bruce Campbell
Height: 6-7 | Weight: 310 | Position:OL
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1242927

Charles Brown
Height: 6-5 | Weight: 292 | Position:OL
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/559356

Personally, if Trent Williams is off the board when we pick, I wouldn't reach for any OL in this draft.

he was not as impressive in this game as he had been in practice. Now is has proven he is not superman, and he might not be worth the 15th pick, a bad game does not lower him top much, but it does raise more questions.

Mike Johnson of Bama on the other hand, look more like the LG we need.

I'm going to have to watch some more of the practices and pay more attention to Utah OG Z. Beedles. I blew him off most of the week, but he showed me some power in the run game on Saturday.

nunusguy 02-02-2010 06:41 AM

Anybody got any thoughts on 'Bamas "Mount Cody" after the Senior-Bowl week/game ? After they said he was up 'bout 20 lbs from the end of the college season to 370, drafting him would seem to be more of a risk than ever ?

If Cody is available in the 3rd round, sure. Otherwise, I'm taking a pass on him. Dan Williams and Cam Thomas are better prospects in my opinion with better work ethic.

Cody is a monster, when he gets tired of an OL in a drill he tosses the guy aside, no matter who the guy is. But Cody is to heavy to play more than a handful of plays in a row in the current NFL. If Cody came here, IMO he would die before the 2nd day of practice. The heat and his weight would be to much for him.

Unlike Roy, I would take a flyer on him in the 2nd round, but I would have to understand he is not a full timer, and I would have to try to pick his spots to get the most from him.

Cody does not attempt to rush the passer right now and his pro coaches must understand he is a run stopper block occupier only.

kRocket 02-02-2010 12:41 PM

Since Roy and PK are in on this thread I would like to ask their opinion on LeGarrette Blount. From what I saw he was the best RB in the game and fits our need of a big back. I am aware of his imperfections character wise, but then we don't know all that led up to the sucker punch. If he passes the 'smell test' do you believe a draft choice (3 or 4) could be used on this guy?

This guy is really impressive in spurts: in a one-on-drill during practice week he overwhelmed a double-team and then on one play in particular during
Saturdays game he made an outstanding play, showing his athleticism even with the handicap of his immense weight. He kinda reminds me of Vince Wilfork when he came out of the U - exceptional athlete for his huge size, but a really fat guy to with all the risk and downside that goes with that. Wilfork is still playing at a high-level though, was in Miami for the probowl this week and he's been in the league 4 or 5 years.
If there was just a way to get into this guys head and motivate him to stay at 335 or so he might be special ?

On film he looks ok, watch the video where he lost it, he talked smack all week and then had a bad game. If our front office gets into his head and is willing to take a shot on him, who am I to argue.

That said I do not touch him before the 4th.
