Sounds like the Titans are giving him $15-16m per year. Crazy money.

Sounds like Rick lost this battle when he let Bouye's agent dictate the terms. Texans were essentially offering the tag price, so why not tag him? If he leaves next year because he is pissed b/c he was tagged, who cares? He's gonna play hard so the next team wants to sign him to top $.

Schefter is saying his money is on Bouye going to the Jags. Might be a bidding war right now.

The Jags? Where big money free agents go to die?

Yet another in a never ending series of front office boners.

Semi-related news...Demps to Chicago.

Defensive backfield getting weaker and weaker by the second.

bikerack 03-09-2017 11:57 AM

Bouye's agent has informed the Texans that he's gone.

Joshua 03-09-2017 01:26 PM

To me, the issue is waiting until now to negotiate. He has been a good rotation player/borderline starter for close to 3 years. But he made next to nothing. If the Texans had approached him after last season with an offer of, say, 5-year, $20 mill., he would have been hard pressed to turn it down. Letting him even get to free agency was the mistake. People always overpay in free agency and this should have been anticipated.

It's a chance for Bouye to make life-altering money. For a undrafted free agent, this could very well be his only chance at it. He has to take the cash. I, for one, will not disparage him for doing so.

No state income tax in Florida, either. Plus, in Jacksonville there's nothing to spend money on so he should be able to bank quite a bit.

Of course the team was totally irresponsible letting him get to FA in the first place.

Bouye to Jags is done.

AJ Bouye is getting 5-Years, $67.5M, $26M Fully Guaranteed - $13.5M Per Year, per Michael Wright.

Expected.

I'm not mad. Texans could be in line for a decent compensatory pick. They already have a lot invested in Kareem, Kev Johnson, and JJo. Obviously not enough, and heck maybe Kareem is a safety in the near future, but the team's secondary gets a boost from a strong front 7 and pass rush.

They'll survive this loss. Much bigger concerns at other positions.

But congrats to A.J. His is an awesome story.

I love JJo but I hope they at least explored trading him and keeping Bouye.
