Kubiak, Texans talk to Schobel but nothing is imminent

Quote:

"Nothing has changed. We're still in the informational process," Kubiak told the Texans' official Web site. "I talked to him the other day.

"It's just a matter of every day, what does Aaron want to do? Where does he want to do it? We'll stay part of that process."

Might just be a case of Aaron not wanting much to do with camp and we are just waiting on him.

From the chron:

Schobel to retire

Quote:

Defensive end Aaron Schobel made it official today: He’s retiring rather than considering returning to play for the Texans.

Schobel walked away from an $8 million base salary with Buffalo this year but said he would like to play for the Texans. Now he’s elected to stay retired.

“Obviously, it would have been a great place to play, but at point of my career, I’m not going to sit here and tell you how I would have performed,” he said today. “I’m not saying I could or couldn’t have played at my best, but I’m just not 100 percent sure.

“I want to be done with it. I’m going to leave it as is. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to play, anyway. I’m going to be 33 in two weeks, and I’m leaving the game on my terms and nobody else’s. I’m just going to leave it alone and retire.”

Bummer.....especially with Bullmans status.

superbowlbound 08-16-2010 11:41 PM

well, balls. Some good news there would've been nice.

kRocket 08-17-2010 10:37 AM

This is my opinion, but if we were closer to a solid run for a ring, I bet he would have been more amenable to spending a year or two here. Money is obviously not a motivation, but a Super Bowl Ring may have been. A look at this weeks preseason game may have convinced him that with a bummed RB, no B/U QB, etc. we were not as close as he first thought.

nunusguy 08-17-2010 11:03 AM

You know I wonder if this guy could go Brett Favre on us ? I mean if he really lives just 60-70 west of here on I-10, and as we get closer to the regular season kickoff, it's gonna start eating on him about being out there and playing ? That's been his life for most of his life (HS, college, NFL).
And god I don't want to jinx anybody, but if we were to have another injury (we've already lost Bullman) at DE, he might get the bug again to come play
if he felt really needed ? Then there's the money ?
Playing football to these guys is probably as important as sex to many of them. Why would you leave millions and millions of dollars on the table to do something you love to do, but know that very soon you can't do it any longer ? He's gotta be thinkin all about all of that no matter what he's said so far ?

painekiller 08-17-2010 12:27 PM

Cause he said he did not love it last season, and that he went through the motions. He does not have the desire to go through the motions again

Fonz the Boss 08-18-2010 02:36 AM

If hes gonna be going through the motions then I dont want him here.

superbowlbound 08-26-2010 04:21 AM

If he was "going through the motions" last year, then we gotta do something to make him have fun, here. 10 sacks ain't bad for a guy who's not trying.

Former TCU defensive end and the recently "retired" Aaron Schobel of the Buffalo Bills has not ruled out playing this season for the Houston Texans.
**
These same people said the Texans have been rather persistent in their pursuit, and he has told them he would let them know on Monday if he will play again.

This story in the FTW Star-Telegram is dated 9/4. Hey, we still got a slot or 2 open on the roster from what I've hear ?
Who knows ?

The last two spots where filled by two roster fillers LB Danny Nixon from the Raiders, and Jamar Wall from Dallas. I liked Wall coming out of Tech as a late round or FA type player, he should be a solid ST. Don't know much about Nixon, but he should be a ST type.

Not that we would not make room for a player like Schobel.

Actually, Danny Clark was cut. So, there is still a spot available.

I think it's time to send a delegation. Pollard, Ryans, I don't care who else. Columbus isn't much of a drive. That dude can definitely help.

I don't think I want him at this point. It is too likely that he isn't passionate about playing anymore. I'm happy with DE, as long as Mario is healthy enough to play hard this season (I'm worried since he was only a partial participant due to his "groin" today at practice).

He's certainly not an every down player anymore, nor do I think he wants to be, but as depth (passing situations, spelling mario and antonio), I think he'd still get up to play. The culture on our defense has changed, and it's contagious. Get him in here, get us on a playoff run, and he'll be chompin at the bit to eat quarterbacks for breakfast. My guess is his kids want him to play here, and that can go a long way. It was his kids that brought no. 4 back last year, and that worked out pretty well. It was teammates this year, so we'll see how that goes. The way I see it, we have nothing to lose by bringing him in. He could take a solid unit and make it one of the best in the NFL. Why would you not want that? Not to mention saving wear on a constantly nicked up Mario, with less drop off than anyone currently on the roster.

painekiller 09-12-2010 05:30 PM

I would be calling Schobel's agent right now and making a big offer. Barwin will be gone a while, that was nasty.

NBT 09-12-2010 06:49 PM

We need Schoble bad now.

Warren 09-12-2010 07:42 PM

On the radio postgame show, ND Kalu threw out the name of Derrick Burgess, who was recently cut by the Patriots, as a possible replacement for Barwin.

That made me think of Adalius Thomas, another ex-Pat who could fill that role, but last I heard his salary demands were scaring teams away after he was cut last spring.
